As of two days ago, a fan room was 450 pesos and air con room was 950 pesos. Very small rooms, but decent cable. No telephone, I was going to call the front desk girl when the screaming wouldn't stop, but couldn't. Bathroom was small and old. Couldn't get hot water in the shower but got lukewarm water, which is actually fine for me. Overall it's ok for one night I guess but it's quite far from Fields Ave, and there isn't really anything nearby. There are places near Perimeter which are almost as cheap and much better location.

Not really the place to stay, as it is far from action. Probably not the best place to bring girls back to either. The cost of travel and time is not worth a free night when you are only there for a few days.

It must have been hell to be deprived of television twice in one night while in AC. I feel for you dude! But didn't the drama outside your room more than make up for that?
But seriously folks, take a flashlite when you go to the Philippines. And in the case of a fire, the electricity may go out. Do you know the way to the fire exit? Play safe.

So, I had to spend the night at the Koala. Big mistake that place was! Two brownouts within eight hours or so and in the middle of the night I hear glass breaking and a man and a woman screaming bloody murder! It sounded like someone was being killed outside my room. QUOTE]

Koala Hotel-Avoid this shithole!

Follow up to my own post (how pathetic is this, I'm talking to myself!): I am in Angeles City now and stayed at the Koala Hotel last night because I wanted to find a cheap place to put my bags down, so I could look for somewhere with a low monthly rate. During my search for a proper hotel, I ended up in Matrix Brawn, and I got distracted in my search. Left after a few hours and a 500p BBBJ and by then it was night time! So, I had to spend the night at the Koala. Big mistake that place was! Two brownouts within eight hours or so and in the middle of the night I hear glass breaking and a man and a woman screaming bloody murder! It sounded like someone was being killed outside my room. Being the tough guy I am, I locked my door and hid under the covers in the fetal position!! Couldn't get any sleep for most of the night, heard the police were being called but I'm not sure if they ever actually showed up.
Found a place today for 10k pesos for the month so I got out of there as fast as I could. The things I do to save a few bucks! Avoid the Koala, you've been warned!

I have so far booked AC hotels via their web pages well in advance and paid the stay with a credit card. I have always got email response within 48 hours. But I have favoured upscale hotels like Pacific Breeze, Wild Orchid Resort and ABC. They have not requested money deposit. Only confirmation for arrival within week before. I guess another option would be calling to hotels.
Showing up without reservation... Well, I have earlier assumed that outside peak season would be ok but when arriving to my previous visit during Easter a guy in airplane complainted he had not succeeded making pre-booking and was concerned getting a hotel room late at night. Perhaps someone on-site could hint does it look busy even when it is low season? The hotels I listed above may be full booked even in low season. Or without pre-booking you may end up changing your room during the stay.

I never used a credit card EVER and heard all the war stories about that foolishness. I would at the very least call them directly and tell THEM your name and the date you will be there. I found this worked well in 99. 9% of the cases. I found this to work anywhere I stayed in the country. Especially now with the lack of foreign guys visiting the area as of late. Angeles has so many hotels you can get a room with no problems, and if you can not get your first choice when you get there ask the place to hold a room for the next night. Stay at your second choice and transfer the next day. I would be hard pressed to believe you could not find what you were looking for "quality wise" on short notice. CASH IS KING SO PAY AS YOU GO, Check and see if they will give you a deel for a week or month most here will.

Booking by e-mail
Booking by filling out the hotel questionaire and providing e-mail works fine and prevents you from paying a service charge to Asia Rooms, Expedia, etc. Been going to the Philippines for over 5 years. Never had a problem. In fact since most do not ask for a credit card number (except Lewis Grande) the risk is entirely on the hotel, not you.

Her name is Rein and when I went to Bohol from AC two weeks ago she told me that she would go with me if I needed someone. I brought her a stuffed Tarsier (http://www.thinkphilippines.com/anim...ilippines.html) and she was very happy, but told me next time she wants to go with me and see it for herself. So, I think that she is available.

I stayed in the Holiday Inn two years ago on business when my company booked me there. The hotel is girl friendly, but it is far (30 minutes) from the bars and a hotel taxi runs 600P. There are no meter taxis in the area. Going back to hotel from Fields is around 120P in meter taxi. For a weekend, I would book it.

IMO one of the waithresses in the LG restaurant is even hotter than that one, though to be honest a couple of days after I arrived in AC they both looked kind of average to me...
