It costs about $35. $40. But of course that was in May. Prices may have gone up as the Dollar goes down.
I forget which airline. Maybe Tam or Gol. I was to fly from Sao Paulo to Rio. Something like leaving at 12 noon and getting in around 2pm.

I work for an airlines and obviously travel for free or at a minimal. I plan on going to Rio on 26 FEB 08 but there is only one flight per day to Rio on the airline that I plan on traveling on. I was wondering was there a shuttle from GRU ( Sao Paulo) to GIG ( Rio) and if so who runs it? How much? And how often do they run. Since I would have no problem getting into Sao Paulo.

Who do you work for? More than likely you can get a ZED fare ticket to use from GRU to GIG. I did that my 1st time I went to GIG. The ZED ticket is real cheap, I believe less than $80 RT.

Looking to take the plunge and hit Brazil sometime in 2008. Planning a trip with 3 other dudes and, while first inclination is to hit Rio, I was wondering if Rio is in fact the best place in Brazil for mongering (note, none of us speak Portuguese, though will take intensive language courses before the trip). Also, trying to find out the best time of year to visit...don't want to go during the rainy season, but, if that will lend to better prices, then maybe we could go toward the end of the season if it would be worth it. First inclination is to go during Carnivale, but, I don't want to be competing with Every other horny bastard in the world for the quality girls.

I know that the dollar is falling against the Brazilian currency and that the girls are a little more demanding nowadays due to the demand for them by us mongers, but, I do want to visit this coming year.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

No offense to Rio mongers but I prefer Salvador, Recife and Natal to Rio. Off the gringo path is where I like to stay. I don't like running into other Americans on my trip, makes me feel like I'm not getting away, like Costa Rica. If you do like that then Rio would be perfect for you. I have been to Brazil in both the rainy and dry seasons and if you like to go to the beach then stick with the dry season. It will outweigh any money you may save in the long run imo. Also I don't like Carnaval but I think it should be experienced at least once. Too many people for my liking. I don't like big crowds and I had my pockets picked once. I had a shitty watch and a travel wallet in them so it was no big deal. Some of those guys are pretty crafty. The prices are insane also for Carnaval. Every hotel I talked to wanted double the price at least. In Recife they start taking reservations for next years Carnaval right after the current one ends, so you need to book your reservation way in advance if you don't want to pay gringo prices.Still, it was an experience I will never forget.

I think that for a first trip, especially if you don't speak any or very little Portuguese, Rio is the way to go. Can't beat around-the-clock point-and-click action even for the language-impaired.

Obviously, different preferences will lead to different opinions as to what is the best time to go. IMHO, you are competing with everyone for the "quality girls" (whatever that may be) any time of the year, anyway, and there are more than enough girls to go around for every other horny bastard even during off-season. And considering that during Carnaval, prices easily triple for everything, I personally think that it's the worst time of the year to go... but then again, Carnaval sure is a once-in-a-lifetime experience not be missed). I personally prefer the off-season (Brazilian winter, where freelancer prices certainly are way cheaper than during high-season), and April/May are perfect, too: it's not as hot any more, not as expensive anymore, and there are still enough girls hanging around from Carnaval times to have plenty of choice. But that's me.

I don't think the girls are more demanding now "due to demand by mongers": more than anything, girls will always try to demand top price from whatever inexperienced monger they come across. It's just up to you to negotiate well, and reading this board should give you a good idea of the current price range and the tactics mongers use to effectively negotiate girls down. What certainly has changed, IMHO, is that for us dollar-based mongers, their prices have become way more expensive than, say, three or four years ago. As long as you are flexible in your options (not just stick to Help or Meia Pataca) and willing to explore beyond Copacabana, Rio still offers a great service/price ratio, certainly much better than anywhere in the US or in Europe, for that matter.

Have actually spent time with Disco, Wes, Xman in Angeles City recently.

Also spent a couple of days in Beijing with Disco.

Speaking of Beijing guys - YES I know this is the Rio board - but Billy does not like to come on a board and leave NOTHING in terms of contribution.

Apart from Brazilian *****s - Billy's favourite 'livestock' are Mongoilian *****s - to be found in droves in Maggies Bar in Beijing (Second best bar in the world - Help being best).

Mongolians are maybe a tad softer and a little more gentle than Brazilians - same total GFE - but with a subtle mix of '*****ness'.

So even if Mini-Me actually stole from someone, I don't think that would be an uncommon occurrence with GDPs. The safest thing is to assume that ALL of them can rob you and to protect yourself accordingly (just like it would be safe to assume ALL of them can give you a nasty disease and protect yourself accordingly, too).

That's the attitude you acquire when you're here a lot. I don't care how you know them, how long, or how well, you learn that you should always keep one eye on them. There are exceptions, of course, but they're fairly rare...

I am just so jealous of you guys living in either Nth America or Sth America.

YES Australia is on Asias doostep - I go to China 6 to 8 times each year - YES I can stop off in Philippines or Indonesia or Thailand to and from Australia.

BUT

No *****s ANYWHERE - and I really mean ANYWHERE - are as good as the Brazilian *****s.

Australia to Brazil is such a LONG way to travel however you do it.

First trip I went Melbourne - Sydney - Los Angeles - Sao Paulo - Rio returning Rio - Buenos Aires - Washington - Los Angeles - Sydney - Melbourne.

Second trip Melbourne - Auckland - Santiago (Chile) - Sao Paulo Rio returning Rio - Sao Paulo - Santiago - Auckland - Sydney - Melbourne.

And all you Nth American guys have to do is jump on a daily direct flight to Rio - god I am so envious.

Still that is why when I do get there I make it a memorable excxursion - planning 2 trips this year - June and September.

Will probably be looking for 2 fellow 'male *****s' to join me in another Fiesta as I will be travelling alone.

Also am just dying to ex[perience 'Villa Mimosa' - Billy is quite fearless but with not 1 word of Port skills I do not carry a death wish - so will be looking to hook up with someone who does speak the lingo when the time comes.

I would like just suggest a very nice and cheap aparthotel in Rio located in the corner between Sigueira campos and Barata Ribeiro.

The appartaments are small but confortable in a modern bulding provvided of swimmingpool.

The location is 5 minutes from Help disco and beach and includes kitchen and living room with a small terace.

Cost per day is 130 Reais (december 2007)
