I used my old passport, with the brazil visa, and the holes punched in it for a few years. My visa was still valid.

Bootytapper, did you just get a new visa based on a forum advice, or did some official deny you with the old visa in the old passport?

The consulate in SF told me that I had to get a new one, but I didn't. I found out that my visa page was not punched so its all good and still valid. It still has 2 years so I will travel with two passports to Rio.

Do any of you know what are the hot club/discos to hit up in Rio? I am going to Rio for the first time at the end of January, and want to try the regular cariocas before hitting the P4P scene. I know of Nuth, 00, Mariuzinn, and Guapo Loco, but have no idea if they are the hot and trendy places. Obrigado.

Marizinno, dieto e feito and the hideaway in larengeras are all very good clubs with tons of regular girls. Club ceasars in Barra as well; but if you speak no portuguese and you stand out as a gringo don't expect to get much play from the ladies. Regardless of what you've read or heard regular brazilian women are not flocking towards foreigners. Especially the women who can afford to get into these clubs.

I only was reporting on my personal experiences. If it had happened only once or twice I would have thought nothing of it. However, when a number of girls ask similar detailed questions about my parentage and also want to have unprotected sex, one does not have to be Oswald Avery to conclude that it is the gene pool that they are after.

This may sound harsh, but, honestly, this may as well be the resume of EVERY guy who ever got fleeced in Rio. Honest advice, only spend your money on hookers. Make it clear with non-pros that your money stays in your pocket. If you want to make a "real connection," make sure it is clear to her that there is little immediate material benefit to your company. You've got a better chance of separating the wheat from the chaff that way. Just because she's not working Help doesn't mean she's not working her angles...

Anytime after Carnival is good to go to Rio, for example March, April and may is good time to take a trip. The weather is still great and the talents are still around from carnival. The only draw back is the price on the apartments wich during this time is still considered high season atleast until April.

First, I want to express my deep jealousy of all you lucky bastards that are enjoying the FUN and sun in Rio while I'm stuck in a foot of snow here in Chicago.

I need some help. As my divorce is finalizing, I am in the process of planning my trip to Rio toward the end of April/beginning of May.

Is this a "good" time to go?

I've read the posts for quite some time. Thanks to your input and Bubba's guide, I think I have a decent understanding of what to expect. I guess what I am trying to get to is that I don't want the typical monger experience. I'm African-Amercan, i'm in my early thirties, i'm in great physical shape, based upon the attention of I get from women in America I consider myself handsome and I make a decent penny.

I dream of meeting a non-pro or at the very least a non hardcore woman that only occasionally dabbles in the trade. I want a STUNNER. I want someone I can wine and dine, make a connection, and spend some quality time together just chilling out. Of course sex will have to be on the menu, but it does not have to happen the first night. I am willing to put in some work and show patience. I will be there for about 2 weeks.

Are my expectations unrealistic? I would probably spend way more on the woman/women by going my route instead of just paying for the company and I am okay with this. Since I am coming solo, I'm going to want some company anyway. I want to fool myself into thinking she really wants me for me and that I am really special. I'm nobody's sucker, but I don't mind spending money on a woman and treating her to nice things.

Where should I look?

When I read this post, my first thoughts were that this guy, coming off of a divorce with an AW and having extensive successful experience with AWs, is thoroughly whipped by AWs and doesn't have a clue about how non-Americanized women view men and expect men to behave and treat them. He seems keen on heading into Rio and using the same tactics on Brasilieras as he uses on AWs. I think that will only lead to finding a AW in Brazilian clothing. We all know how that turns out! If he is eager to let his money burn holes in his pockets, he will find plenty of STUNNER ladies eager to pick up his money as it falls all over Avenida Atlantico.

My suggestion is for Always Horny to completely forget about looking for a rebound relationship. It would be better to simply experience women from a different culture on this trip, take each one as she comes, learn about non-AWs, and forget about AWs. On a second trip, experience more women and learn about Brazil. On a third or fourth trip, after making friends with regular Brazilians and learning Portuguese, think about developing a relationship.

By the way you describe yourself without specifying any knowledge of Portuguese and based on the questions that ask, I assume you don't speak any Portuguese, though I could be wrong, of course.

No Portuguese? Yes, entirely unrealistic.
Speak Portuguese? Well, there's always a chance... but it's still much more unrealistic than not.

After all, you are only spending two weeks there, and then you take off again, without any guaranty that you will ever come back. Why would a girl be interested in that?

You also said that, if not a non-pro, you want "at the very least a non hardcore woman that only occasionally dabbles in the trade". Which beggers the question... how do you know for sure that she only occasionally dabbles in the trade? If you think that it's a problem for any Rio GDP to maintain the illusion that she only works occasionally for a mere two weeks, think again. Or that she is not really hardcore.

I suggest that you find a great girl that treats you right, gives you a GFE, that you can wine and dine as you please for a couple of weeks if you want, and then you go back home without worrying about the rest. Live the fantasy while you are there, but remember that you are in an adult Disneyland: just don't worry about who's getting on the ride before or after you, and how many people have taken the ride. Just enjoy the ride, and if you like it, you come back.

P.S.: Anytime in Rio is better than anytime in sex prision. Personally, I think April/May is perfect: it's already after Carnaval, and the weather is no longer as sweltering hot as during the Brazilian summer while still being very pleasant. In addition, there are still some girls hanging on from the Carnaval heydays, so there are more than during the Brazilian winter months, although generally speaking, you shouldn't have any problem whatsoever finding girls year-round.

This is not an endorsement, but Time Out just published a guide on Rio. It's about 250 pages but just 3/8" thick and has some good tips on restaurants, clubs, and day trips. (I'm sure experienced mongers will snort that they don't need it.)

Another good one is Rio for Partiers, which is also available in downloadable form. It's aimed at a twenty-something crowd but has many good tips, like (1) always have change for a R$50 bill, and (2) don't eat the shrimp on the beach (unless you want to die.)

Be aware, it may take a few months before you get the new passport. You may be able to get it within a month, (expedited service,) but it will cost more.

The US passport agency was really fast with my renewal. The peak time apparently is right before the summer (thus not now).

Mailed it from Illinois (to Pennsylvania) on Monday Nov 5 using first class mail requesting normal service (non-expedited service).
Got email notification on Sat. Nov 24, that it was done and will be mailed.
Received (new and old passport) on Wednesday, Nov 28 via priority mail.

I was really impressed as the turn around was less than 3 weeks... and this bridged the Thanksgiving holiday.
