I've never seen São Paulo like this since Sep 11.
Most of the panic is caused by hoaxes, the attacks are concentrated in police depts., most of them in the outer regions of SP.

It's dangerous, but regular people should not be so scared: only 4 non-police were killed. All the hoaxes and panic resulted in the worst traffic of the year, by far.

Most of the clubs and massage houses are closing for today, and the girls are scared too.

I'll report here when things get back to normal.

In Sao Paulo capital and interior, from Sunday thru Monday morning 42 buses were burned, 10 banks were destroyed and 74 persons were killed. Mostly Police officers and criminals, but also a few civilians.

Be very carefull in SP capital and interior of the state and observant in other major cities, since this activity could spread. Plan on avoiding areas under attack; ie buses and banks and have a plan for getting out of any problem area.

I am sure most people that watch CNN or BBCnews will know that Sao Paulo has had some serious events overnight. Approximately 20 police were killed by gangs in what looks like a well planned criminal operation. This is serious even for a county used to violence, the scale of the killings has shocked the locals. The Police retaliation over the next few weeks will make the city a nervous place to be. Apparently the prisons are starting to riot.

Thanks for the quick reply. Our understanding was that the club got an exit fee in the neighborhood of 270R. Is that close to what you paid?

Sampa Guide did not make any recommendations on tipping; the only thing he asked was that I give her $20R for taxi fare afterwards. I gave her the generous tip mainly on the quality of her performance and her willingness to stay however long I wanted; in fact, she would have even stayed past noon but I had other things to do that day, like head home :-) It's not too often you find somebody relatively new and "fresh", and who provides great service. For a lot of women, once they do this for awhile they become a bit tainted and their service and enthusiasm wanes over time. The other reason for the nice tip was because I didn't have much local currency on me at the time, and all I had were hundred dollar bills!

Regarding the exit fee, I just checked my credit card statement and it looks like I paid the club $300R in total, including the admission/consumption fee. I recall Sampa Guide negotiating with the club on this, because I don't think we had ordered much food/drinks that evening.
