I was surprised to see that the consulate has a warning about R. Augusta stating that some number of Americans have been robbed here by garotas slipping drugs into their drinks at the "bars".

The only possibility would be Love Story, and that's not even on R. Augusta. I did have a street girl offer me a sip of what she was allegedly drinking, which I pretended to do. I never did see her drink it herself, but I'm 90% sure there was nothing sinister.

In the clubs, the girls really don't have that much to gain from drugging you. because the services are on-site and standard. Maybe there is a clip joint or two I don't know about.

I'm sure the government publishes some good warnings, and I think a guy could get in trouble on R. Augusta (outside), but MY OPINION is that the club warning is nonsense.

Even if I am build like an American football running back I never dare to venture alone in this part of the town. The idea to team up with another hobbyist (preferentially with experience) is a very good one.

My first trip in SP was very pleasant because I was helped by an experienced Brazilian hobbyist (and still very active on another board with more than a thousand posts).

The next time I'll travel to SP I will let you know and I will be pleased to share my knowledge with a newbie...

Was doing some homework on a different topic, and read the US Consulate's web site on Brazil. There were the usual warnings about Rio.

I was surprised to see that the consulate has a warning about R. Augusta stating that some number of Americans have been robbed here by garotas slipping drugs into their drinks at the "bars". Also, a warning about the Praca de Se' area for pick pockets and I think strong-arm.

Spent the last couple of days in Sampa. Missed the New Year’s Eve festivities, but were able to enjoy the light displays along Paulista. Anyway, who cares?

O’Malley’s was open, Bloody Mary’s were cheap, which is good you would think, but they tasted too horrible to drink. The band had no singers, and the bar lacked any ringers.

By the middle of the night, it was time to search for what the Brazilians call a “fight.” Deep down Augusta we went, my friends calling me “low rent.” Unabashed and bold, I told them to put their opinions on hold.

Into Maison we went, their noses in the air were bent. Maison Nova was tried, but there was no worthy bride. Very hot and muggy was the Balneiro Club, and there was only one girl to give you a rub.

Please show patience, I told them, eventually we would find an acceptable fem.

Bouncing from place to place, the $5R beers helped us keep pace.
The biggest surprise was a place called Night House, too clean for a rat, just right for a mouse. Free food for all, and many girls to ball.
