Sommerset Grand is in Xintiandi. To the best of my knowledge it is girl friendly (my friends have stayed there before and that proved true for them). Location is ideal for people who don't know Shanghai and want to be in an area where they can easily get a cup of coffee, food, etc. while speaking English. Maybe not quite as well situated to the bar action as some of the other places (though Xintiandi has a good bar scene too ... just a bit pricer), but it's all a USD 2 taxi ride anyway so if you're looking to stay there I'd say go for it.

Sorry, I've been away from the forum for a while. I'd have responded immediately to your note.

First, yes, the "buy me drink" girls are in it for the money first and foremost. Here's their deal: they make a percentage (as much as 50% if they are lucky) on each drink you buy. For many of them, that's the only money they make. I know girls who walk away from an evening with 75RMB and one more giant step toward liver failure (most actually drink juice with no alcohol, unless you insist on a specific hard drink, but hey, I *always* insist - it slows them down a bit).

Those girls do work hard to get you to buy a drink, and some of them have very hard hearts - they see you as revenue. However, some of them certainly do have softer hearts, and can grow attached to you. Of course I have the phone number of this beauty and tried my best to make a kind of private relation. Of course I invited her for a dinner before the shift, but the dinner was also a bit confusing me since she called her mentor to come to the restaurant too and of course I had to pay for both ladies, at the end 170 RMB which seems me a little bit high for a normal Chinese restaurant with just normal food.

I thought I was going to be a good boy visting Shanghai and had every intention of doing so. While walking along Nanjing Road two nights ago I was approached by many ladies. I ignored them all until one attractive one approached me and wanted to just talk and practice her english at a local coffee shop. I ended up $400 US lighter and anothe 3000 RMB on a credit card before I could leave. I felt like a godddam helpless idiot since I was not able to speak the language.

If you see an attractive lady by the Beijing Olympics souvenir store and get asked to join her in the coffee shop upstairs, stay the hell away! Her name is Fang Fang and she had a partner that joined in on the drinks. Both claimed they were from Suzhou. Beware!!

Thanks to Rodion's post about Kanding Lu, I decided to check the street out last night (9 pm) and wanted to give some additional information. I'm somewhat new to posting so I apologize ahead of time for any redundancy or extra wording.

First off, it is Kanding Road in between Xikang Road and Shanxi Road in the Jingan District. Along Kanding Road there were 4 BBS that I could see, 2 on the north side and 2 on the south, closer along the Shanxi Road side. There are an additional 4 or so BBS along Shanxi Road north of Kanding on the east side of the road.

Perusing through the shops I noticed that the best looking girls were the ones on the north side of Kanding road and on the top of Shanxi Road towards Changping. Checked into hilton. Based on forum advice had a great experience at the shanghai hotel. Want to tell a few details to help other newbies.

Nice note... couple of comments: While the exfoliating treatment can leave your skin feeling very fresh (most of the dead skin removed), I think it poses a risk of infections. One of my Shanghai buddies who posts but won't be named once complained of a too-deep exfoliation, which could obviously lead to skin infections (that isn't a sterile towel he's using). I once developed a skin fungus (easily knocked out with Lamisil (over the counter fungus cream in the US)) which I suspect came from one of those treatments. I've since avoided them. Plus, removing that layer of skin right before going to town with one of the lovelies, with her planting her lips and many other of her body parts all over your skin is probably counter-productive.

Also, you can save a little by staying at the Equatorial rather than the Hilton. It is a very nice hotel, and is even closer to the Shanghai Hotel than the Hilton. But both are nice, and the bar at the top of the Hilton is much nicer than the bar on the 4th floor of the Equatorial.

Personally I don't think China is among expensive mongering destinations. Here you can have FS for RMB 150 which is less than US$ 20. You can also refer to thread Cheap Sex in China.
Maybe in order to get best value for money you should go to Southern China. Chang Ping (CP) is a favourite destination for many.

Actually 300-400RMB/HKD is closer to US$40-53. Though for the 300HKD 141 girls you gotta go out to the sticks. Most in Kowloon/HK Island are 400-500. That is the full price, no hidden extra charges.

Although no experience in China as yet but soon to come, I am extensively experienced with Thai and Filipina chix and I would expect that since they have to work there, they have the same MO.
