I'm getting kind of worried. Since 3 of my buddies never been to China before, and we all do not speak Mandarin, should we get a translator? I want to show them a good time, but I know how frustrating it can be if we can not communicate what we want. It will just ruin the whole experience. I have been reading this forum for many hours and many days, that my eyes are about to fall out. I know where to go and have a general plan, thanks to Laowai123 google earth map and senior members' reports. It's just the little things like what we want to drink. Can we get st or lt? "Karaoke room? ", no we want to sit at the bar. I can see it now when we go to the restaurant, instead of looking at the menu like normal people, we are looking at what other people are eating and point at other peoples food to order. Been there, done that, . And don't want that to happen.

Anyone know of any translators and their prices? We are going to be in CP from July 12 to 19. Thanks for any advice.

i absolutely agree with you on these points. you expats have a different level of friendship among each other than those who are short term business/pussy tourist, which i can easily fall into these categories. there's less loyalty among my peers than yours.

there's so many levels of friendship in life. some friends are for life, some since college and some for specify sports like our little hobby. therefore, there's also different level of commitment and loyalty. you can't say all mongers here share the same level of friendship. it just isn't there.

If there are 4 of you it might not be worth the extra diversion to Gz East Station and the train ride to CP changing from taxi to train and then taxi.

Taxi ride to Gz East Station approx 110 to 120 rmb,

Train ride to CP for 4 persons 40 - 50 rmb x 4 persons

Taxi to Miraton from Train station; 15 rmb

total, 300+ rmb

versus the 400 rmb cab fare provided you get a reliable cab from your travel agent.

If travelling alone, Szexpat's suggestion is definitely one of the better options for sure.

If you're taking the train, just enlarge and show the cab driver the following, it's the name of the train station.

Once you're at the train station, it's pretty easy. Just make sure you go to the GuangShen Express and not the long distance trains; you don't want to accidentally end up in Hunan. There's only like 3 stops from Guangzhou to Shenzhen and their names are Shilong, Dongguan, and Zhangmutou. You have to be aware though that not all trains stop at all the stations so you can't count on your stop automatically being the 2nd stop. If you listen to the announcements on the train, you'll eventually hear Dongguan. Get off then.

Since there's 4 of you and each of you will probably be carrying a couple bags of luggage, there's a good chance you guys won't fit in one cab. If you want to save a couple bux, the train will probably be considerably cheaper, but much less convenient.

One other thing you should be aware of. Lately, it's come to my attention from some friends that it's difficult to exchange foreign currency, especially USD, in Dongguan. I'm also hearing that it's not easy to use foreign ATM cards in Dongguan either. You might want to stop over at a bank in Guangzhou to change your money or make withdraws from ATMs for any cash you may need during your stay.

I hope they work. I just ordered some for my trip to visit the kingdom. I was wondering if any member/s would like to meet up on July 12 in ChangPing? Me and 3 of my buddies are going in blind, speaking no Chinese at all. We are landing in Guangzhou at 6pm, July 12 and was wondering how the hell are we going to get to ChangPing? The travel agent told me the taxi will cost around 400 RMB. Any confirmation on this? I know there is a train, but all I know is that it is across from a Mc Donalds, somewhere in the large a$$ city. Any suggestion would be great!

Anywho, I went online to the Miraton Hotel to make a booking, but never received a confirmation by email yet.

We will be in Chang Ping from July 12 to July 19. Then we are off to Macau for 4 days. Every single day, I dream about going back to heaven, and read through all the DG reports. I just hope some members will guide us through the pearly gates.

1. 400 rmb from GZ Airport to CP is about average. It is fairly easy to get around though, so instead of shelling out that kind of cash might I assist you with getting there:

- You could take a taxi from the Airport to Guangzhou Dong Huoche Zhan (sounds like hwoh-cher jahn) this is the GZ East Train Station.

- Inside the station go to the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Ticketing Booths (it's in English) tell the lady you want xxx amount of tickets to Chang Ping (sounds like it is spelled) you can just hold up however many fingers to her to indicate the amount of tickets needed. The ticket per person is between 40-50 rmb one way.

- Directly across from the ticket counter is the waiting area for the trains, when you see your train # flash above the gate, proceed to the train and on your ticket will be 2 numbers, the first one is the car # your in the second is your seat #.

- This train takes only 30 mins to get to CP and they actually call this the Dongguan Station, get off when you hear them announce this or ask a train attendent.

- When you arrive in CP, many guys will be offering you a taxi to your hotel (they do not use meters here and the starting price is 20 rmb) tell them 15 (shi-woo) and your going to the Miraton Hotel (sounds like Mirror Dung).

- Once at the hotel, the staff will take care of you.

- Next to the hotel is a 7-11 for quick stuff, across the street is a supermarket and McDonalds. Beside the 7-11 is a restaurant called The Bistro, English speaking staff and food is pretty good. Across the street is a place called Mingtian Coffee Language, has coffee and snacks with an English menu.

- For the pussy, just walk out the hotel and down the street past the 7-11, you will be confronted by numerous mommies and this will go on till you reach the Lucky Hotel. You can also grab a taxi or private van and tell them you want to go to the Ya Lan (sounds like it is spelled) as soon as you get out of the vehicle, mommies will be all over you. The taxi, once again, will start at 20, tell them 15 rmb.

- When you find a girl you like, tell them either 150 or 200 (normally it is 200 over at the Ya Lan, and 150 in town) just have that amount in your pocket so when a mommy quotes you some crazy price you can just whip out that cash, not a bank roll (DO NOT have deep pockets and DO NOT carry more than a few hundred rmb on you at any given time). If at the Yalan, show the mommy 100 and show the girl 100 or in town, show the mommy 50 and the girl 100, they will understand.

- If you feel the need or guilt to tip the girl after service has been given, the standard Western tipping practice should be observed (10-15%) of the bill (i.e. 100 rmb for the pop, give her 10 or 15 rmb tip).

- Never pony up for overnight (LT) until you have sampled an initial pop (ST). If you want her to stay overnight, the cost is 500 total from the Yalan and usually 450 for in town (since you already gave the mommy her fee of 100 or 50) then just show the girl 400 rmb and tell her to stay.

There is also KTV's and Massage Joints to do, but I am sure others can assist you with that. I might be out there during your stay, so maybe we can hookup.

Sorry Bill, I cannot join you in the Boycott mainly because she was also the only mama that will not "complain" to my Asst. Mama GF that I had taken girls from her. Even with Mama Baby, she would tell my GF (considering they are cousins!).
