Actually transportation, ( taxis, buses ) and food is relatively cheap in China but everything adds up. To me, I find, Shenzhen and HK are expensive for taxis. Main reason I travel alone most of the time. Taxis are not economical for one person. I don’t know about Northern China but I believe it’s about the same for big cities.

The most expensive part is the airfare from the USA. It is about $900-1200USD. After airfare, it's staying at a Western Standard hotels. It will cost about $300-500RMB for a 3-4 star hotel. That’s about 9000 to 15000RMB a month. Depending on the city and time, it can be even higher. Then the money spend on the girls and other misc expense. If you add everything, I estimate it’s about 4500 to 6000USD for a month’s vacation in China. Now you’re gone for one year. I wonder what’s the total for 1 year’s expense to 10 different places. Yes, this is all cheap compared to mongering in developed Western Country like the USA or Western Europe but it's still hard for most people and me to afford A 1 YEAR VACATION.
