The worst place for burnout, odd looking farang is Pattaya from my experience. Walk around the place at 2 or 3 pm and take a look. Kind of sad really, but I guess they are just trying to get through the day and make the best life they can. They are in other cities also, but seem to be concentrated in Pattaya. They are a big part of the "real" farang of Thailand. Mostly they are not wealthy or living in "nice" condos.

Can't say that your assessment is all that off, but in turn there are lots of farang men working both in BKK and upcountry as well who have gals with degree and jobs, who actually contribute, and I see this type of pairing more and more. As I said, farangs tend to be less intimidated by women who are successful. BKK is not the cheap place it once was, and if you have no means and / or no skills, it would be tough to make a go here. I would say most long term BKK farang residents I know were either successful back home or have been successful here or in other parts of Asia.

I agree with your assessment of a large portion, probably the majority, of those falang living in Thailand. I consider these people as having fallen off the horse without the ability to get back on. Personally, I don't associate with these types. The falang I associate with, and those Thais I consider friends, work for large companies or own their own companies, live in nice homes or condos, and their wives / girlfriends would excommunicate me if I showed up with a bargirl in tow. I meet these people through work and other interests mostly, not sitting at Big Doggs watching the ladyboys pace back and forth.

Are you refer to the old fart living of his pension in Isan with his former bargirl wife who he found on TLL; or do you mean the expat exec with the multi-national pulling down a few hundred k (Pounds / Euros / Dollars) living in a big house in a gated community in Bangkok's suburbs? Lower Suk is awful. I avoid it at all costs and that included NEP. The entire area is very depressing.

I would think the best way to escape the madness is to rent a place in the suburbs. For example Nonthaburi. I understand you can get decent houses and condos for THB9, 000 and less. This would allow you to escape the monger scene. You've got two expressways connecting you to downtown. You can catch expressway vans to Victory Monument. With the money you save you can pay for a cheap hotel on the nights you want to feast on the mongering scene. And you have more money to spend on pussy! Because I'm only in Bangkok 2-3 weeks at a time, I think of lower Sukhumvit as a big entertaining zoo, but I can't image living there. I like to watch the monkeys at the zoo, but I don't want to live with them. I'm thinking about moving to Bangkok when I retire in couple of years. I'm thinking of living somewhere along Sukhumvit but beyond Phrom Phong for the first year; then if I want to stay, I'll look for a house in the suburbs. I'm also thinking when I rent the house I'll find a reasonably attractive live in DW who will provide me with a few extra services!

Look at the several decaying oldies at the German bar on Soi 7; look inside the Beer Garden. Every plane landing in BKK brings some tens of mongerers, to stay conservative. These are the guys you mention. There are many planes landing every hour and all along the 24hrs.
