Thanks to all you guys for the restaurant suggestions so far. I'm really going after the small local cheap Colombian type of establishments if possible although I'm not sure if they are even located in a nice upscale area like where the Mansion is. I don't really want to fly all the way down to South America for Asia or European fare since I can get that in Toronto. It's the real authentic local dishes I want to try during my stay there. I already know that the Mansion breakfast (if there is one) will not be authentic.

I applaud your sense of exploration. Colombian cuisine is like British cuisine. Hearty, filling, and after a couple of meals you understand why all the Brits eat so much Indian food.

Small and cheap places will not be far away, but the main street near the Mansion is Poblado Avenue, which is pretty upscale. But authentic local breakfast might not be great for that long unless you like 5 kinds of grilled or deep fried meats and eggs, etc. I usually opt for rice and beans and small helping of scrambled or omelette, and corn tortillas. Maybe a bit of ham or bacon, but can pass on that mostly. And prices in the nicer places on Poblado Av are not that much more than smaller more local types say around Parque Poblado, a block off of Ave. Poblado around 10th Calle.

In the same mall next to the Colombian restaurant is a fairly nice sushi restaurant. Across from the sushi place is the Denver Modern Grill. Which has an interesting concept. There's a gas burner in the middle of the table and you cook cuts of meat at the table. Pretty nice place.

Also, I used Uber for everything. Very cheap and easy. Also, safer than a taxi. The drivers are vetted by Uber and if you trip goes haywire, they know about and know your location.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes I plan on using Uber if I cannot use the Metro. Too bad I can't use Uber for airport pickup but I'll try to use it for my way back for my flight out if any Uber driving is willing to go that way.

There is a Colombian Restaurant called Hacienda in La Strada Mall. Walk down the hill from Mansion, go right about 2 blocks. It's on the second floor. Also on the street level, La Parmesano is pretty good Italian place. Metro station is too far to walk easily, just cab it to wherever you're going, cheap.

Since I'll be going down there for my very first time in May, I'll still try the Mansion out especially since I'm not that great with Spanish. I'm not worried about any lack of daytime options since I plan to hit New Life, Energy and maybe Loutron during the daytime. I'm also there on a Thursday to Sunday so as long as the three evenings I've got are decent at the bar, I'm okay with it. If Thursday night is a bust, I'll hit Loutron before they close or one of the clubs.

For those who are familiar with this place, is the walks to the closest Metro stations doable? I know there are some hills to manage.

Also, are there any Colombian food within walking distance? I don't really care about any American fast food places like McDonald's which I know is nearby or some other cuisine that's not Colombian since part of my travels involve eating local.

That neighborhood is the fanciest in Medellin. The Porsche dealer is one block from the hotel. There are lots of interesting restaurants within a few blocks. Try to get a reservation at Restaurante Brutal.

My era at the Mansion was between 2011 and 2018. What a great time that was. No FB, just pure Mansion girls at the pool during the day, at night up at #2, years later at the bar in #1. There were so many incredible things about the place I cherish these memories. The current Medellin just sounds jaded, dangerous, and almost entirely spent. Conversely though, when I got there in 2011, many talked about the good old days being long gone. W Robert gone and Greg incapacitated the Mansion must surely be on it's last legs.

This news is shocking. Why stay there if half the reason is gone? The pool scene was great fun.

All the girls and most of the guys talk about how much the situation sucks but the latest word is the city is tired of looking the other way as the property has violated various codes and rules over the years and the next crackdown could be the permanent closing of the "hotel". The chicas are especially upset by the business situation at the Mansion.

This makes total sense. The city has been after them for decades and Robert was the master at holding them at bay. I remember the policia stopping by the bar to chat w Robert and obviously he had their number. The neighbors were also a source of grief for the owners but never insurmountable. My last stay there in 2018 was a game changer for me. The American gang banger types found out about the Mansion and now they're a part of it. This didn't help the mansion management w the neighborhood either. I'm surprised Robert and Alexia lasted as long as they did. I wonder who the new management is?

I used to like hitting La Mayorista around 10 pm. That used to be great. Anyone know what that's like now?

Thanks for the current info. I'm sure there's a good way to enjoy Medellin but it's no longer the old way.

The bar is open in the nighttime but if it isn't a Friday or Saturday who knows if any more than 6 ladies shows up.

Most of the rest of the property continues as always but if you don't have a collection of "friends" to call on or if it is your first time down it will be a bit of a dry season for you.

I'm planning on being there Mar 14-18 and being my first time all excited to be in Mansion and play safe. But look like my day options are limited then as per your report, that's not good. I'm lined up few SA girls but I would always like to see in person and choose. So what would you recommend for day time being in Mansion? I can't just wait until night to hit bar at night may be like get contacts in night and use them for mornings.

Thanks for the report. I am booked for mid May but since this will be my first trip there, I'll keep my booking. I won't be affected by any loss of daytime pool action since I plan to do New Life and Energy during the daytime anyway enroute to tourist spots like Parqe Arvi and Comuna 13. For the nights, I've got a Thursday to Saturday so figure at least the Friday and Saturday will be okay. If nothing there appeals to me, I'll head over to Loutron, Fase Dos or La Isla. What I won't do is pull from Parque Ileras although I do have the benefit of security of the hotel in the event I do change my mind and bring anyone back.

Assuming it will last because of rumors of sale. Best rooms & remodeled rooms with jacuzzi are 106,111,112,114. Avoid 110 room on top of the bar.
