I was there that Monday night. In my opinion, it was dead! It was disappointing. I was there the Friday before that and it was even worse. I was shocked since it was a Friday night. But, I did hear Saturday night was packed and fun. Of course, the night I didn't go! LOL I'm anxious to hear your thoughts. As I've told others, even without the pool fun, Hotel M has some advantages. I wouldn't rule it out entirely just because of the pool.

50 K for outsiders, free if staying at mansion. At least that's what it was in Dec.

Excellent! Hope a Thursday night won't be too bad there too as I'll be flying in on such a day and don't really want to go out right after travels especially on my first trip. I'm not a nightclub type of guy anymore so hoping that the cave will be all I need for my evenings rather than having to go out to La Isla or Fase Dos which will undoubtly cost more for roughly the same thing I would be able to get at the Mansion.

    No More Newsletter

Uber is readily available at the airport. The only catch is you'll have to go up the escalator once you get past customs. I use Uber Comfort when I leave the airport. It's basically the same price as the taxis and much more comfortable.

Well this news is all very depressing! I have booked the mansion for the end of May for 5 days (Sunday through Thursday, so already not great). I guess I can always cancel closer to the time, and worst case I've only lost one night of cost. But as it's my first time to Medellin, and especially given the recent security issues, I was looking forward to the mansion as a gentle introduction to made some new friends and start branching out to explore in a safer way. Maybe that will still happen, but I won't hold my breath and I guess I'll look for other potential venues, perhaps another city / country.

    Ho hum!

That area is called the Golden Mile. There are restaurants all up and down Avenida El Poblado, in addition to the shopping malls.

There is a huge food court at Oviedo Mall downstairs Tons of different options. Also about 6 blocks further away is Santa Fe Mall, one of the largest malls around, food court is on top floor. Lots of the fast food options use real silverware too. Must try Frisby chicken my favorite. Much better flavor & juicier than any american chicken places. My friends said last Saturday the cave was packed with chicas.

Maybe a bit of ham or bacon, but can pass on that mostly. And prices in the nicer places on Poblado Av are not that much more than smaller more local types say around Parque Poblado, a block off of Ave. Poblado around 10th Calle.

I'm really going after the small local cheap Colombian type of establishments if possible although I'm not sure if they are even located in a nice upscale area like where the Mansion is. I don't really want to fly all the way down to South America for Asia or European fare since I can get that in Toronto. It's the real authentic local dishes I want to try during my stay there. I already know that the Mansion breakfast (if there is one) will not be authentic.
I applaud your sense of exploration. Colombian cuisine is like British cuisine. Hearty, filling, and after a couple of meals you understand why all the Brits eat so much Indian food.
