I went by the old mansion this week and received a very cold reception. I left and stayed at my hotel. The del rey its not. I don't understand the lure. They would not even let me take a look inside.

The Del Rey is a large casino / hotel / restaurant complex whose ground floor is open to the public. The mansion is a quiet, small bed-and-breakfast, so they aren't set up to entertain looky lous.

However, it would have been good business to give you the nickel tour.

I'm an experienced Medellin visitor, and even I will stay in the mansion or the Castillo up the hill every 3rd or 4th trip to sample what they have to offer.

Perhaps it was because you weren't a guest, hence the frigid reception? Not sure. For one thing it's much less expensive for a session at the Mansion than the Del Rey in SJO, maybe half the price based on my trip to CR last January (see my trip report). Another advantage is that the Mansion's chicas are vetted to some extent, whereas at the Del Rey it's a crap shoot what you get walking in off the street. The DR also has a ridiculous $12 USD joiner fee to bring your box up to your room even if you're a guest there, otherwise a comparably cheap taxi ride out with your box if not. Not the case at the Mansion, where you take your pig right to the room and have at it. However, you can get half way decent food at the DR's rest. Whereas only breakfast is included in the price at the Mansion. Drinks are cheaper at the Mansion's bar, "La Cueva" too. You can also pay the maids to open the fridge in their kitchen for a cheap beer, soda, or water whenever you want during the day. The Mansion's front desk is truly monger friendly and will set you up with taxis, printed out maps / addresses, designated tour drivers, whatever. The Del Rey, not so much. The Mansion has a pool, I didn't see one at the DR. So there are key differences in each places business models, prices, and service levels. It's an apples and oranges comparison really. My recommendation remains: first time mongers, even experienced ones, to MDE should play it safe and do the Mansion. Once you get your feet wet and learn the city, then other tactics can be considered. Just my 2 cents.

P.S. The first pic is a Del Rey box and the 2nd taken from the Mansion. Both pics taken immediately post blow out, naturally.

You're welcome JoBob. Not really sure as we only went to 2 casas. It was hard to leave the mansion especially after 6 PM when La Cueva bar opens and the night shift starts rolling in. At Casa "Energy" there was no frisk and the place was run entirely by older women. I believe Lutron is about the highest end casa in town in terms of cost. Can't remember what we paid after the session but it was probably around $100 USD including the beers. We went for the tourist experience. I really didn't object to the pat frisk and considered it acceptable. At least the place is safe, right? My research indicated it's only open during the days and closes at 7 PM. Obviously there are plenty of places in town to get a nut for under $40 USD or less. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the casas in crummy parts of town frisk or wand you down. Experienced MDE players chime in please.

Not that I'm going to be packing in a foreign nation, it's just that sort of thing tends to make me nervous. Not to mention that I like to bring a camera in case the girl is willing.

They're looking for guns / knives, not cameras. They won't stop you from bringing in a camera -- heck, your phone probably has one.

I've never been frisked in a casa, however the strip clubs typically do it. Maybe it's a night-time thing.

Correct Combo bad choice of words on my part. My first night's drunk blonde asked me for only 100 K at 2 AM and I knew that was low from RTFF. She was worried about the $50 USD until I carefully explained to her that the $50 would get her more than her requested price at a cambio. Other guys later reported she was a starfish in the sack too and I didn't repeat when I saw her back at the Mansion. Sadly, I forgot to take any "box" pics for my first 3 kills as I was so into the moment. I'm known in other sections for my unique OB / GYN photography. It's just my thing. Late in the night, girls will frequently go for less. Their friends may have already left, and they might not have enough cash to get a taxi home. I've taken advantage of this a few times. I'm not overly cheap, but I might only have a certain amount of pesos on me after a full day. Typically the girl will tell you not to tell any of the other girls that you only gave her X amount. Having said that, 90%+ of the time, I just give them 150 k.

One thing I wanted to note -- the 150 k pesos at the Mansion is not actually a set price. The Mansion and its owners really don't care what you pay the girls -- it's none of their business since the girls don't work for the house. The price is whatever you and the girl agree to. 150 k has just sort of become the "standard" price, and it's what most guests (including myself) usually pay.
