I paid 200-250 mil pesos on trip just before Christmas.

What they are "asking for" is irrelevant. If you ask them how much and you look really naive, they might throw out a really high number in hopes that you'll do it.

Yeah, back when going to Colombia was sort of a unique thing it must have been great for gringos who can't speak Spanish but now it seems that the need for a "Mansion" may be coming to an end.

There are SO many options in town where even a newbie would be relatively safe if he can just hook up with a couple of good guys while on vacation.

With this new regime the value of the place has really taken a dive especially when you consider the cost per day to the quality of the rooms (not a great value at all).

I was planning on staying here in March for my first trip. I don't speak Spanish so I feel like it's my best option but posting this if anyone knows a similar or better option. Thanks!

Looks like they've already changed their policy. I just got an email saying there's now no cover for hotel guests. Still $50 k if you're not staying at the hotel.

I didn't get any email from them, but I have a friend staying there now, he had to pay the other day, but not today, so I guess it is lifted.

I speak Spanish and there are always other guests there that do also. I've stayed there on and off over the years as I like the camaraderie with other hobbyists, many whom I know from previous visits. That said, this is definitely a step in the wrong direction.

The Gringo Inn was hit by armed robbers. I assume they since upgraded their security.

Anyone there who know what happened? Or saw a news report or something?
