In what parallel universe do Mexican soldiers make $2-7 K per month? A captain would kill (pun intended) for $2 K / mo. Hell, the man reason people even join the Mexican army is to train for their future with a cartel--after basic training, the desertion rate is astronomical.

I still think it's good policy for any country, US or Mexico, to recruit or conscript young men and women, who are not succeeding in higher education, into military or civil services, away from gangs' and cartels' control drugs addiction and criminal life styles. Let military organization set them straight, train them for skills, teach them responsibility, discipline, setting goals in life, something their irresponsible, ignorant, alcoholic, drugs addicted parents fail to do. Let the drill sergeants straighten them out, train and teach them skills to fight crimes and drugs cartels, doing infrastructure or public works, and become straight and productive citizens for the rest of their lives.

Yeah. They do that by the thousands. And then as soon as they complete combat training, they defect and join a cartel where they can make real money. The Mexican Army is nothing but a farm system for the cartels.

It's a noble career to be representatives of your people in all levels of government, even more important than teachers. However politicians are under intense scrutiny and pressure by the press, the public and their rivals; their jobs are hard and tiring, lots of stupid bullshit and ugliness flung their ways from all kinds of people and rivals from all directions. I worked with a few legislative reps at state and federal levels; their jobs are very demanding mentally and physically. It requires very strong, very smart, very dedicated people to survive and thrive in the pressure cooker.

My personality is a hard, straight fighter, very much similar to the late Sen. John Sidney McCain III, ex US Navy A4 pilot. I don't put up with bullshit and stupid, irresponsible people easily. More flexible people are better suited for US' politics.

People are the main natural resource that supports the survival and drive the growth of any country. We have to actively manage and develop that resource much better and much more carefully, or our nation will lag behind and be conquered by other countries.

Since military personnel have base housing or BAH payments and free food, their pay can be used for fast sportscars and partying when not stuck in Iraq or Afghanistan or on a ship. . . Offhand, I believe the rule in the British Army was that Lieutenants should not marry, Captains may marry and Colonels must marry. The Roman Army prohibited legionnaires from marrying while enlisted, which is probably why Rome conquered the known world. . . They weren't nagged to death and bankrupted by Dependas! Since the pay is steady and dependable, many military personnel are targeted by wannabe Dependas. . . Just like NFL players.

Perhaps military guys can shed some light, but I think military families are dirt poor, scratching out a harsh living off the members' few hundreds dollars wages every month, with alleged military spousal benefits that may or may not help in practice. It's unfair to accuse military spouses exclusively as Dependapotamus. They are in all demographics and socio-economic levels of US society.

Not all but lots of US women are naturally lazy, not to mention stupid, short sighted, conceited, having way inflated sense of their self-worth. They think they are too good for their spouses, entitled to free lives and live off the guys' incomes, having unlimited free time, drugs, booze, snacks, sex, driving their spouses to work harder and bring more money home.

I have seen a few examples, young, healthy, good-looking, highly educated and career-successful professional or managerial women, marrying colleagues, then quitting their prestigious, high-paying jobs, staying home as housewives, allegedly to take care of children, cook meals for their families and keep the house in perfect order. In a few years the women became dependent emotionally and financially on the men, not to mention getting lazy, obese, demanding. The couples soon had relationship problems, got abusive and broke up. The guys quickly found and shacked up with or remarried young, slim, fit, active, employed women. The women then have their unemployed, horny, sex-crazed BFs live in the house off their alimony and child support payments. It's a great deal to have free time, spending money, booze, drugs, sex all they want with no obligation. Hehe..

They all live in separate military spouse world and it is odd to most of them to actually work for a living instead of raising kids.
