Back in the day people were helpful but it's a new breed out here that will waste you time and start trouble, so sometimes it's not worth putting forward the energy. I think the DR and Colombia both have beautiful women but I found the DR more approachable and the Colombia Women slightly conservative. The DR. Sousa specifically is one stop shopping in a walkable area. Colombia was more spread out and sex is hidden and undercover most places.

Prices are determined outside the hot spots by you Spanish and negotiating experience. Inside the hot spots the norm is 80-120 (or more) usd depending on several dynamics, time, weather, availability etc.

All of Santo Domingo este is not a barrio. My first building had 24 hour security that announced guests and a sea view. In fact I was right across the street from the sea. And took a walk along Avenida Espana nearly everyday for exercise and to enjoy more than just the sea view.

The current building I live in sits within a complex with a gates for access to the parking lot with 24-hour security. Intercom to get into the building. Walking distance of everything I need. Short drive to everything else. And my area continues to grow. I made a path of progress play and it has paid off big for me. Lots of good living in Santo Domingo este if you know how to find it. I've lived in the barios of Boca chica. I've lived in the bario of Este Santo Domingo, Ensanche Isabelita, Calle ocho. I've lived in the always busy Zona Colonial. But now I'm living in La Espirilla, just past Gascue.

Man I'm loving this building. Two generators so the electricity is never out for more than 30 seconds. Gym, pool, and observation deck. Security, cameras and underground parking. No roosters crowing, no horns and definitely no motochonchos racing. Only sound at night is the cool breeze sound. A college is two blocks away along with an assortment of restaurants and a National super market. I have a one bedroom, two bathrooms, maids quarters and double balcony. I pay 850 usd a month plus electricity. Must sign a year lease with two deposits and a month in advance.

We celebrated my boys birthday on the observation deck and had a great time. Go to " Uncle Henry living in the Dominican Republic" on Facebook for photos and videos.
