Any tips on landing special rate at Marriott?

It used to be called Cebu Midtown, and situated above Robinsons Department Store. It had a name change in recent months after a renovation caused by a fire in the store. The hotel begins on the 4th Floor. The other floors are all part of the Department Store.

You can get the taxi to drop you at the ground floor just around the corner in F.Ramos Street instead of taking you up the long curving driveway to the 4th Floor where check-in occurs. Much easier to just grab elevator from the G Floor to check-in.

I am pleased that it seems to have regained a bit of energy back and the prices are now back to reasonable too.

BTW, as is often repeated here, always book a double room so you will not have any issues with the security guard who waits at the elevator near reception. Prices are usually the same

    Tune hotel cebu

    Hi,

Thank all you guys for all the useful information I haven't read anything about Tune hotel but I figured at 17 dollars a night walking distance to Ayala would be worth it. I stayed at diplomat last year when I was there and it was close to mango bars which I liked but I would waste money on taxis to Ayala on of my fav spots. I figure if I don't like tune it can be my short time hotel when I am there.

Has anyone stayed at Tune before?

From reading the forum there seems to de a few categories of hotels that are favoured by the board members.

Top Tier : Radisson Blu, Marriott, Marco Polo, Waterfront Lahug.

    Mid Range : Elizabeth, Quest.

Long Term / Lower : Sogo, Richmond.

Am I being to rash with this selection? Appreciate your thoughts.

Important for me is proximity to shops, close to IT Park, choice of Resto.

Not so good, this can be disasterous. Is there door security upon entering?

    Montebello

I didn't find any pics of the room. So these pics are poolside or in the garden. The staff were pretty good, they allowed me a late check out. The bell man was pretty good about getting a taxi. Oddly the taxi's will drive thru the Gasiano Country mall in order to get to the access road. It's behind the mall and it is too bad there wasn't a way you could get into the mall from the back. I don't think they have in room safes. X

    Montebello

If you need a nice large pool or you have a gal you wish to spend some quality time with, I would certainly recommend the Montebello. I don't remember the prices, but I think you can find that on the web site. There are a few rooms that are a bit run down (the cheapest ones) and then some other that are the same size but have been renovated (the next price up). I did look at a suite, which was expensive, but oh, oh, oh, so nice.

I thought the restaurant was poor value and I don't much like the location.

I am considering a change however, probably The Beverly Boutique (also around 1500 per night) this time around or Mango Park, a little more expensive but does have a pool. I know

From previous posts that both hotels are GF, but for this to be the case should I pay the rate for 2 people (I. E. Double occupancy) , or will they not have a problem with me booking for 1person but bringing the occasional 'friend' back on a night?
Always book double occupancy when staying in the Philippines. It removes the chance of being asked by the front desk staff to pay a joiner fee every time you want to bring someone to your room. Most of the time it's the same price when booking online so there is no downside.

The pool at Mango Park is very small.

The bed is queen and thick. Carpet. Large bathroom. Clean hotel. Just outside on the second floor is a kind of strip mall, with a restaurant (indoor or outdoor seating) , a travel agent, and massage place (good regular massage, p300 I think). Breakfast is free in the restaurant, but you get a small choice from the menu. No complaints; service was good, wifi was solid, the place is quiet (upstairs, set back off the street, no noise inside). Price: $58USD net for the mid-range Deluxe room. That included free airport pickup / dropoff.
Thanks for the reviews as many here only stay at the same two or three hotels as recommended by other board members. Have checked out this property but never stayed there as the price seemed a little high for the neighborhood. Yes great location on the National Hwy. and only 15 minutes from the airport. But next time try ACE Pension for half the price and is a few doors down and directly across the street from the Gaisano Mall marquee. Don't let the word 'pension' confuse you as it is a hotel by any other name! ACE has been revamped from top to bottom. Large rooms with tile floors and everything you would expect. My last stay I brought in three girls and had a little party and the staff could have cared less!

Good clean hotel, and on the top floor is a restaurant. Or you can order the food and have it brought to your room. Its girl friendly, hot water, only thing bad is the tv sucks. But, did you travel half way around the world to watch tv?
Welcome to the board! Yes I stay here occasionally as it is less then a five minute walk from Mango Square. The staff is super cool but don't ever eat the food there. Another plus is that their safety deposit boxes are similar to the kind the banks use and require two keys to open. If that is not enough, they are located in their office which is under 24 hour CCTV.

Waterfront Lahug also has a great swimming pool, one of the best in the city and can also be used for a small fee.

Check the other options recommended here for a gym, or try and put my energy to better use for the few weeks I'll be back.
