In the 70's. Wow that is a very long time ago. 40 years? My 33 years ago first Thailand visit did not include Pattaya. I first went to Pattaya 25 years ago and wasn't that thrilled, however my stays there were rather short. Beaches were not nice. However I do plan to go back and give it another try sometime. Never say "never again". Things change. Trouble is my frequency of mongering is dropping off and not sure what else Pattaya has to offer.

Pattaya was even better in the '60's when there was only one restaurant on the water, Barbos, and the beach was lined with fishing boats which could be rented for a day to go out to the islands for diving. We stayed in vacation homes of Thai friends one of which owned an island. No foreign tourists but a lot of Thai with beach homes. Then things changed.

Nice to have long term friend with a benefit. Far enough away to keep it fresh and close enough be familiar.
