The Ochheuteal / Serendipity beach area has changed a lot during the last several years.

Sihanoukville Square (hostess bar area) has been expanded. They are currently building more shops in the front. During the night, each bar seems have to have 5-10 girls, but not many customers.

I will be there in a months time. Please enlighten me as, although a few times already been to Snooky, I have no clue by what you mean with Sihanoukvill Square.

So I think my choices are chubby but young, or not chubby but older. In the real world be happy to get attention from a cute 35 year old. I just worry about how long a hostess that old has been working in the bars. That's why I tend to prefer younger girls.

You never know. You can find 35 year old girl, who started work in bar last year and you can find 24 year old girl with 6 years experience working in bar.

The ride on my moto from PP to Snooky was terrible. It took an hour to get out of the city. Then the road narrowed to two lanes with no shoulder. SUVs (always SUVs) would keep carelessly careening into my lane to pass, forcing me off the road. The most dangerous road I've ridden in SEA so far.

I checked into my place off Serendipity Beach. It's a tiny, quiet town. Good BBQ seafood is available. I was tired after the terrible ride, but wanted to check out Victory Hill. It's really far from Serendipity, and a moto taxi cost $2.

Victory Hill is a tiny scene. I dodged the ladyboys in the first bar on the left, and said Hello, to a chubby girl in the second bar. She was friendly and only 22, and spoke good English, so we built up some rapport. I like meaty girls sometimes, but I wanted to see if something else was available, so went to the next bar.

Here I had the problem I often have in these kinds of bars. I'm an introvert, and only have a limited amount of conversation I can do, especially now, since I was so tired. I don't want to waste it on someone I'm not interested in. I wasn't interested in the hostess that talked to me, so I ignored her. But if you do that all the other hostesses will ignore you too. So I checked bin.

There wasn't much else. Some girls were saying Hello, from the upstairs bar at the end of the street, so I went up. A friendly, older hostess came over. I was about buy her a drink, but then a stunner came over. I fell into the trap of pretty young girls again, and bought her a drink. She didn't speak a word of English, so there was no way to build rapport with her. There were no games to play. We just sat there. It seems tacky to directly proposition her to come since there was no chemistry, so I just checked bin. I waved goodbye to the older hostess and she waved back, so I feel like I could go back and see her.

I motoed back to my hotel, waving goodbye to chubby on the way. It was $3 now. I'm right next to "pub street," so I walked over there. There were a bunch of girls in the first bar. My girl was older, but friendly and worked hard to keep me entertained with that stupid dice game. But right after buying her a drink, I saw a really pretty girl. There's no way to change ladies in places like this, so I went home alone.

Many more hotels, casinos, restaurants and KTVs are being / have been built. I don't like KTVs. Assuming that's where a lot of the cuter girls work at, because I don't see any cute ones in the regular hostess bars. Darn!

Utopia still seems to be dead. That scene still haven't recovered ever since that backpacker OD and drowned in the pool.

Another bar, the Star Palace, has been added to the beach scene (where you have a mixture of backpackers and local working girls). Star Palace is next to Dolphin. JJ Playground is the other bar, about 150 meters away. They all start late, around 11 PM. There's ladyboys hanging out.

Victory Hill was the same. Semi-dead with marginal girls. Ladyboys were present in the first bar on the left as you enter the street. Irritating. I will boycott all these bars that employ ladyboys.

Last night I took a second visit to the Port area accompanied by a local Tuk-Tuk driver friend. Although this is my first visit to Sihanoukville, I've been told that is past years, this area was full of P4 P shopfronts, both Khmer and Viet. However, these days, those same shopfronts have transitioned into KTV bars. Perhaps things appear to be the same as before, with girls sitting on chairs in front of the bars, however when asked about P4 P, they reply with the same answer. No Sir, this is KTV, and then try to persuade to stay, play KTV and drink beer.

I did find a couple of places that front as KTV and accepted my interest in direct P4P rather than wasting time and money on KTV entertainment and beer spends. But those types of places are rare at the Port area these days.

Finding something cute at the port area is not easy. Most are overweight and many getting past their use by date. However I did find one acceptable. She quoted $10, I did not nego. The dine-in service was not good. Rushed and only one position allowed. I rejected her request for a tip after the deed because of the trash performance.

My Tuk-Tuk friend understood my curiosity about how the Port area has changed over the past 3-5 years. He summarised the transition like this: the local Mayor in partnership with local police either installed new laws / regulations or decided to enforce existing laws / regulations regarding Brothels. In short, brothels are not permitted to operate. The penalties can be harsh according to my Tuk-Tuk friend.

Consequences:

Most of the girls and mamas are afraid to show any interest in offers for direct P4P offers. First they are afraid of any police attention. And second, they are afraid 'set-ups', meaning that anyone asking for P4P maybe be working under-cover. So the girls turn-away whenever I asked about P4P.

I am speculating, but perhaps this kind of 'shift' in regulations is the same across Cambodia and emanated from central government Phnom Penh and filtered down to local government jurisdictions.

Business as usual regarding P4P. And this is how it is working now, according to my observations and inquiries:

KTV's are the new brothels. As my tuktuk friend explained, when his friends go out to KTVs, they play KTV, drink beer, then inquire to the hostess / waitress about the possibility of P4P action. Then it is up to the girl if she accepts. So the P4P is a private matter between legally aged consenting adults.

The KTV's are permitted to operate because they are KTVs 'in the front' (as my friend describes) and brothels behind. If the police visit, all they see operating is a KTV bar.

Of course there still remain a few exceptions to this trend / transition here in Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh.

The result for us foreigners (in Sihanoukville and perhaps other Cambo locations):

- perhaps find P4P shopfronts, which are becoming rarer;.

- particiapte in the KTV entertainment venues, small or larger. Play the game of buying beers and trying to nego P4 P with the hostess. Not easy given the language barrier.

- visit Victory Hill bars or their equivalent in Phnom Penh.

Thanks for the report. I was last in Cambodia 6 years ago and I guess everything has changed since then. Even then I was reading stories about the 'good old days' and how the port chicken farm used to be great but had degraded.

Short story: I was staying at a place near Victory Hill and there was an American guy also staying there who'd heard you could get a root for $5 down at the chicken farm. I was relaxing down the beach one day when he came down and said he wanted to go but didn't want to go alone. He nagged me until I agreed to go with him. We got a couple of motorbike drivers to take us down and started to see what was on offer. There was absolutely nothing I'd touch for free, let alone pay for; but he was insistent he wanted his $5 root. Eventually we found a place where there was a girl he decided to go with. She wanted $10 but he eventually talked her down to $5 and off they went. I ended up sitting outside having a beer and waiting for him.

I may be visiting Cambodia next month and was sort of hoping to visit the chicken farm again for old times' s sake but I guess I won't be this time.

I'm just wondering, as I understand there isn't a P4 P scene on Koh Rong, would it be an idea to take a WG over from the main land? Obviously I would choose carefully, if the girl was nice company etc, but I am wondering if anyone else has anybody done this? I have RTFF but there isn't anything on this subject.

That said, I'm sure if there isn't a suitable lady for this task, there have got to be some hot backpackers to be had!

I can't believe the utter and hopeless state of P4P here. And what I do see in the massage joints is exceptionally uninteresting, unattractive, and unfuckworthy.

If anyone can steer me towards a young, beautiful (OK, just not too ugly) pleasant experience here, you will have my undying gratitude. Having read the entire Sihanoukville library, I'll be most surprised if that's possible.

I was there about one month ago myself and I agree, I didn't see anything worth doing. I still enjoyed the laid back attitude of the town and I'm planning a trip back again in a couple of weeks. I live in Thailand so P4P isn't the deal killer that it would be if I were still back in the US. Post anything if you do run across anything worthwhile but I agree with you, Sihanoukville is a long way from Angeles City.
