Being a point guard doesn't make one a team leader in basketball. Undisputed team leaders in Charlotte at the time were Alonzo Mourning (Hall of Fame, 7 times All Star and twice defensive player of the year) and Larry Johnson (2 times All Star). Muggsy Bogues didn't get selected in any All Star game, never mind to make it in the NBA Hall of Fame.
