Update from my 24 hours in Belize City.

Definitely not a place for holidays. Keep in mind I'm talking about just Belize City and it's city centre only because I only had a chance to explore that in the 24 hours I was there for. The resorts around it and the islands are probably a different story but I haven't been there.

Belize City looks a city that has been deserted by it's government and is just simply falling apart. We were advised by the company we work for to stay in our hotel the entire time and not venture out especially after dark.

I managed to still go out. There was a spa located in our hotel but they wanted 113 USD for a massage and there seemed to be no indication that there would be any extras at all so I did not partake. There was also a place called Lily Massage and I went inside and there was an older Asian lady working who wanted 35 USD for 1 hour massage but if I want a massage from an older Asian Lady, there is plenty of places I can do that in the city I reside in. So I once again did not partake.

I managed to convince 3 other co-workers of mine to go out after midnight (after a few drinks) that we should check out a bar since it's Friday night. Got the hotel to call a cab, he took us to a place called Sit and Sip. It was a run down bar and nightclub but the cab driver said this place is safe. No working girls to be found but you could tell the crowd around us was all local and it seemed like they don't see many foreigners here because we were getting a lot of stares but overall people were friendly.

Dream like city is closed down permanently according to my taxi drivers.

Club Eruption is a strip club that is about 30 min outside of Belize city. Went there on a Sunday night it was dead perhaps Friday / Sat are better; it was so dead on Sunday no stripping but there were girls to talk to. I didn't stay long the trip there was $30 that is the standard price to get there from the city. This is open to negotiation it's gringo tax you should be able to get it down to $20-25 but it's pretty far on the outskirts I'd be thinking of a way to get back more than a way to get there if your planning on being out late.

Foxxi's Bar has working girls you can talk to and make arrangements that's the best spot I have found that is currently open and open to mongering.

ATM's are a pain in the ass along with being few and far between. Beyond me as to why but the first 3 ATM's I tried rejected my card. I've been all over Central America first time this has been a problem. First night was to bad ended up negotiating with a taxi driver that if he took me to an ATM that actually worked I'd give him a good tip he literally drove me around knowing I had no money on me if this didn't work out he'd get nothing. Belize is big on the barging and negotiating stuff.

No uber, standard taxi ride within the city is $5 USD 10 BZE. It's probably $1-2 more than what locals pay, but it is what it is suck it up don't nickel and dime not worth it. That being said, if someone tries to charge you $10 USD or 20 BZE. Be firm tell them no you will only pay $5 USD or 10 BZE for inter-city rides they will take you at almost any time of the day.

Safety is a bit sketchy but I would compare it to walking around Guate City or San Salvador. You certainly attract more attention here as a whitey here though compared to other Central American countries not fully sure why. Nothing to bad or dangerous if you have experience but it is something to point out.

More specific, its darkest in the middle, Belize City-Dangriga, lets say and slowly changes to more brown as you approach the borders. Language is the same. Creole English in the center and more Spanish as you approach the borders. Generalizing of course.

Brain has gone on vacation for this guy. Like I said sooner or later cops will catch up with him or worse local gangs known to the girl for not paying the girl. It has happened in many places in the world irrespective of what the laws against prostitution are!

To throw you a bone, make sure to split your Jakrata trip into two parts- north, and then south central. Traffic might be the worst of any megalopolis in the world. North Jakarta is a ton of fun with many "in call" places of various types, including the famous Malioboro, Travel and Classics. Make sure to hit Fatalhila Square and Gladok (chinatown). Amazing cultural places- the art is cool and the music if fantastic. Check out the shadow puppet museum (Waylung). Amazing. . In Central / South, you have the two great freelancer bars, CJs and BATS- both rock. The food in Jakarta is some of the best in the world. Pro tip- trying paying the girls in. CJ and BATS- it might save yo some drama. Cheers.
