So do you waive the insurance and use your credit card to cover any damage? Most credit cards limit the amount money wise that they will cover. You are liable for the rest of the amount that the credit card won't pay. The higher priced car you rent, the more you'll have to pay if the car is damaged beyond repair or stolen. You can always add on the extra coverage thru the rental agency but that can double a rental. $37k euro's for a mercedes C class equates to roughly $50k USD. The fine print on my credit card says 'up to $40, 000' to replace the vehicle.

For $100 per day you should be able to rent a BMW 7 Series Limo and you should be able to get a very descent auto for no more than $50 per day. Even better if you can improve the price further off an internet travel web site (as mentioned in the above post).
Very true. That's why I rent instead of public transportation. If you keep the car over a Saturday night (with Hertz on their UK / France / Spain website) , it's even cheaper. If you can't drive stick, a Mercedes C with GPS is €120 VAT included for a Thursday to Sunday rental for pickup at the airport. That comes out to €40 a day not including petrol. If you want to save more, pickup the car at the Hertz location by the Hbf and the same rental is €100 since you avoid the airport surcharge. And if you drive stick, there are even more cheaper options available.

Thanks.
Driving in another country no charge but if you are returning in another country (or even another location within the same country), there usually would be a charge.

I have stayed at the Pure near the Hauptbahnhof several times. It is a fantastic hotel with modern decor and nice rooms (including A / C). The staff all speaks great English and provide wonderful service (OK, not that kind of service, but still very helpful). Breakfast is fantastic, and the rooms are not too expensive (at least by US and UK standards). It is within walking distance of Palace, short cab or TRAM ride to Mainhatten, and 100 meters from the train station (I. E. trains to Friedrichsdorf and Giessen).

Thanks Ortos. I found Kayak, a site with a filter that shows all air conditioned hotels for those who can't sleep in hot stuffy rooms.

Ibis Hotels have pretty decent A / C in the rooms. There's one (Ibis Frankfurt West) within easy walking distance from Palace. Ibis Offenbach (Kaiserlei) is across the river not too far from Mainhattan, but the Ibis Frankfurt Centre (Hbf area) might provide easier access to the Strassebahn to Mainhattan. (If you have a car than, Offenbach is closer). For Oase, maybe the Mercure Hotel in Friedricksdorf has A / C, I'm not sure.

Agreed. I take the last coach and try to exit door nearest to the stairs. I usually get to the taxi rank first. Standard daytime fee to Oase is 8 Euros 50. Late night and Sunday could be a little more.

Okay, here is the number of the Friedricksdorf Taxi Driver: 06172-74 000.
Yes sometimes one must be quick, but even if the taxis are full with customers pulling away, yell at him Oase and they'll stop in their tracks to take you. Because, as said below, of the 10e commission Oase gives the drivers.

No problem driving to and from Germany. And should definitely be no charge.
By the way, avoid Thrifty and Dollar in Germany. They are franchised out to Terstappen who have many scams to make up for the fact that on car hire consolidator sites they always come out cheapest

It is always worth checking the various internet travel web sites. Even with gas it seemed an economical way to get to Bernds, Acapulco and Samya.
