Here is my reply to your question.......
I heard that Managua & Granada are dumps!
There are half-finished condos & buildings all over the place. There are lots of drugs.
I heard that only "sucker a*s Gringos" from the USA with no knowledge of anything beyond Sandals Resorts visit Managua & Granada. These rookies travel to Nicaragua and purchase condominiums, drugs, SW, and marry local Nicas.
Are Managua & Granada really dumps?
Now a question for Senior Meat Loaf -
Have you ever been to Jaco Beach Costa Rica, or are your questions above based on second hand information / hearsay ???
If you have visited Jaco Beach....then you perhaps have seen the changes that have taken place there in the past couple of years. The changes - some good, some not so good are all a part of Jaco's growth I think.. With it being fairly close to San Jose, I think Jaco was bound to suffer a few growing pains......which is what I would call the current situation there.
If you are basing your questions on what you have heard from others....who may or may not be biased against the little town of Jaco.....then please don't take hearsay for being the gospel-truth.
My advice....go to Jaco, check it out for yourself, then get back to all of us with your updated opinions.....
I for one, like Jaco Beach.....there are similarities to San Jose and of course other parts of CR....but then again Jaco has it's own vibe - which I kind of enjoy.

Yes, real estate agents try to push overpriced condo's. Buyer beware. It is always best to rent a place for 6 or 12 months before you buy. But, you can still have fun if you enjoy a small beach town with one main road for retail and food.

Posts: 6That is pretty accurate in my view.
Prices equal to the States. Unkempt beaches, derelict buildings and many drug dealers on the streets.
If the chicas in Beatle Bar wanted $30,though, there would be many more reaosns to go.
I really liked my $30 a night bungalow in a nice small complex. But, I wouldn't go back to Jaco.

Do yourself a favor and start reading Meat Loaf posts dating back to 2007 and learn / witness / share in the depth of knowledge, exploits, commentary, language, etcetera. This may prove more productive than your "fly by night" commentary.

Old Meat Loaf is still alive and well I presume.....but I think he is on haiatius from posting on the Nicaragua threads.
Sometimes it is difficult to read you, Joe.....I think your post is not so much being critical of Meat Loaf, as it is more or less an invitation for him to start posting again on the Nicaragua threads.
Anyway I sort of miss reading his musings.....although drivel might be a better choice of words.
If he would leave out the bragging, the gloom & doom, and the political non-sense.....his writing would not be half bad.
You have to give him one thing.....he is intelligent and this comes through in his writing.
........................................................
I am in San Jose CR now, and think it is more suitable for me than Nicaragua......although one of these days - Nicaragua should and will perhaps become a better mongering location than it currently is........that's just my 2 cents worth.
Things here in Costa Rica seem to be pretty good......and no doubt they will improve for me when my wingman gets here in a few days.
Hoping to go to check out Pantera Rosa.....where I have yet to go, in the next day or so.....and I will report more later.

Good to see that you are still on the planet. Some of us even missed you.
Why don t you contribute your 2 or 3 cents worth.....I know you have lots to say about Central America.
There seem to be quite a few guys here mongering.....but guess they are too busy chaising pussy to post messages or info here.

That is family time for most of the folks here. The out of town Chicas go home during that week, the ones living here in either San Jose or Jaco ....and I have been both places during that week....are spending time with their families....they typically do not work that week.
So perhaps you should try to get down here either before Christmas week or after New Years.
I think you will be well advised to stay home and party in the US during Christmas week, then plan your trip here for another time.
PS
I am not an armchair poster sitting at home in the US and answering your question.....
I was in Jaco this afternoon, and am now back in San Jose this evening...........

Anyone on the board been to Jaco on New Year's Eve? Thinking of going Dec 30-Jan 2. Was advised that San Jose is a bad choice for these dates and that everyone goes to the beach. Anyone been in Jaco during this timeframe?

Heading there from San Jose for a few days if anyone wants to split a ride or scout the bars. Looks like it's gonna be Clarita's since some of the others that have been recommended in the past are now getting horrible reviews for being filthy dumps. I am gathering that Clarita's is Chica friendly, but don't know about guest fee. I keep hearing reference to Los 4 Grandes Hotel next to the Beatle Bar, but Google turns up nothing and I assume it is extinct. Will report on it after.
