Just back from a long weekend in San Jose and Jaco. Met some nice girls at the Del Rey hotel during the day $50-$70.00 quoted for an hour both times by various girls-Ticas stayed for considerably longer; FS,BBBJ w/ CIM.Not the best quality but very enthusiastic. I believe as night falls better quality girls show up but gets a little pricier. Moved on to Jaco for Sat & Sun. There are two beautiful Columbian sisters who go by Sara and Carina who work out of the Beetle Bar in Jaco I spent two days w/Sara. GFE and then some, a little apprehensive at first but not bad considering she was a Columbiana. Quoted me $100.00 for an hour and ended up spending the night both times, I bought her dinner as well both nights.. Good time very sweet girls have another friend Jasmine who my buddy plugged also very sexy with great attitudes. Apparently OZ and Beetle Bar are the main mongering spots in Jaco or at least I was told so.Stayed at the Tangeri Hotel, spittin distance from Beetles $90.00 /nt included brkfst no problem bringing chicas and no extra charge but no hot water in room 3A. Beware of some peroxide blonde ***** who works out of Beetles, shes got a great body and a butt ugly face but my buddy fucked her anyway and he thinks she drugged him.I wish I remembered her name but I don't. He did get stoned with her at his room but some time after he became dizzy and disorientated and passed out shortly thereafter (or so he thinks)he was awakened by a knock on the door from some Tico thug who did not look friendly luckily a couple of us were next door and we ran him off so be carefull to all and use common sense, don't get stoned with hookers! Had a fantastic buffet at The Colonial restaurant in Jaco on the last night$35.00 U.S. all you can eat Shrimp(Jumbos) Crab and Lobster plus sides and an assortment of fresh fish-awesome also they have some very nice Chilean wines for reasonable prices.

Thanks to insights from individuals on this site as well as some other research I will be spending a week in Heredia Costa Rica and then a week in Samara Beach (Pacific Ocean Costa Rica).

I'm a late 20s, clean cut American with lower intermediate Spanish skills who usually does okay in the US bar circuit.

I definitely want to meet girls during those 2 weeks as well as avoid being a crime victim. Any thoughts on these 2 areas as well as best way to travel around if there are other nearby areas? What are Heredia and Samara Beach like?

Just returned from Dominican Republic via Panama and Costa Rica. First Costa Rica. Went up to Puerto Viejo; an unfriendly town for mongers. Lively bar scene though. After that down to Montezuma no mongering there, but cool town Terrific room by the month Luz de Mono. 200/mo Went back to Jaco and picked up a beautiful Dominican girl and brought her back three great days;she left demanding more money. Partied for like another week in Montezuma and went back to Jaco, and picked up the same Dominican girl. Its now about five days before christmas and the prices are going through the roof and I want to stay for a couple weeks anyway, and this means I need an apartment, my lovely Dominicana also wants out of where she's living and we finaly find a place and she moves in with me. She's like "you dont mind if I still work at the beetle bar and just do you for free" and I agree. But she comes home after the first night after the Beetle Bar and of course I'm insanely jealous and in the sack that night she agrees to give up her whoring ways. I'm excited and things go along well for a while but then she's like "I want to go home and see the kids" so were off to the Dominican Republic via the bus to Panama. We get to the Panama frontier however and my passport is deviod of the necissary stamps as it is a replacement from the embassy in san jose who has neglected to tell me that I cant leave Costa Rica without an immigration stamp you can only get in San Jose. So I'm at the frontera and I tell her go ahead without me, and give her two hotels where I will meet her in Panama City, a primary and secondary. So I'm in the street figuring the quickest way to San Jose. I end up taking a cab to Golfito(very beautiful) and a small plane to San Jose for 70.00us. I the go to Tica Immigration where there are absoulutly no other Americans just a bunch of Ticos trying to get to the United States, I am universaly ignored and steered from line to line and two hours later end up with the rubber stamp. I then am off to to the airport and am crossing Barrio Mexico past the hospital where I am attacked by two muggers. I'm struggling with them thinking I'm going to get my passport ripped off again and never make it to Panama. Amazingly though a female cop on a scooter saves the day and I'm on my way with one of my toenails ripped off and a sore jaw. I fly to Panama City on the second flight of the day. I arrive and it turns out the first hotel on the list has been closed for a year and the cab drivers are very amused by this. Third world poeple delight at any lack of knowlege in Americans that they themselves posses. ( this doesnt happen very often) I arrive at the Hotel California (25 a night, ac tv excellent resteraunt) and my girl answers the door with much relief at my arrival. My Impression of Panama City is very well developed for the third world and large. Didn't monger however and were off after one day to Dominican Republic.
Arrive in the Dominican Republic and go to the small town where she lives. This aint tourist country however and were living in a large shack. Poeple are both very friendly and very annoying no one can understand my bad spanish but the little women. Rum however is a dollar and a half a pint for the good stuff. This does little to make up for the change from beautiful Jaco beach to the dusty wild west type town, and I'm somewhat dissatisfied, but I rent and furnish a house and buy a motercycle and you find yourself being amused by the whole turn events at times, and well she is drop dead georgeous. On the way out we went to boca chica for a week; tons of working girls excellent prices nice little town, although I didn't do anything but party.
I would like to emphasize how dangerous San Jose is, I was mugged twice. Do not assume you are safe unless you are within sight of a cop, even in daylight. I have wandered all over the city and nothing has happened, but you literaly can never tell.

I am trying to decide between Panama City, Panama 1 week w/a week at the beaches of the Pacific Ocean (Panama) following that, or a week in Heredia Costa Rica with a week in Samara Beach (Pacific Ocean Costa Rica).

Which would be better for a late 20s, clean cut American with lower intermediate Spanish skills?

I definitely want to meet girls during those 2 weeks as well as avoid being a crime victim. I'm leaning towards Panama at present but am interested in some honest feedback/comparison

This forum has been alot help I have read many post that have help me in my travels. And now it is time for me to contribute. I have just returned from CR. I spent a day Jaco and 3 days in San Jose.

This was my second trip to CR. I had spent my first trip on the west coast. So I planned to hit Jaco first thing thusday night. Got into town meet with friends and went straight to the beetle bar. The sights where good but the sticker price shock didn't wear off so then we when to La Central. Again Good vision, Pickup tica she was about 6 for $50 for the rest of the night 2:30 on.

I recently returned from 3 weeks+ in Costa Rica.

My first stop after a few days in San Jose was Jaco. Jaco is the largest beach destination for mongering in Costa Rica and best place in town is the Beetle Bar. The bartenders are mostly women and mostly stunning, never mind the talent! Its a blast to go in and just drink and watch them work. They are also very nice and fun to flirt with.

Arrive there at about 10- 10:30, and the girls will start coming in. There are ten to fifteen or so regulars who are there night after night. Some of these range to 8's and can be very good. They all try to charge 100.00. (Currently about 38,000 colones) I think this is on a sliding scale related to your personal apearence and your ability to bargan in Spanish, but less than 70.00 I think would imply insult in most cases. I was giving them 35,000, about 90, and this was usualy no problem. Of course there are a few that will go to fifty but now were talking chubby thirtysomthings. Pay attention to the nationality because this will give you an indication of probable performance. Ticas are the best; they generaly are the most loving and sensual, although Nicaruaguans (Nicas) are a close second. Dominicans of course tend toward black but can be very nice also. In fact I had top class performances from both Dominicans and Nicas.

If you get a Columbian, it is likely to be all bussiness and money up front, which takes away your upper hand, and I would advise heavily against doing this. In fact I only did this on one occasion, and only talked money at all 2 or three times out of about 18 sessions on this trip. I just took them to the room, did it, and handed them the money as they left without a word. This is Ideal. I kicked one girl out and gave her five thousand to get rid of her because she wanted the money first, and wouldn't accept my terms. Avoid this though because they all talk, and this will be somewhat of a black mark, but be nice and pay well and its survivable. As I said there are some very nice regulars, but the real gems to be had will be the traveling semi-pros, many of these will be 18 to 21 and hot. I met my favorite on my second day at the beetle bar and had the experience of a lifetime. It was her second night there, and we split the Beetle Bar with her sidekick, also very cute and went to La Central, danced, hung out, and then I did them both with a lesbian show for very reasonable money.

Another realy hot Nica also took me to La Central, the major disco in Jaco, and grinded me for an hour at a table. This was cool, but she was 18 and looked it, and I'm pushing 40, and it looked like family night, and I got some realy nasty looks. Also she had friends there for whom I bought three white russians and nachos, which plus my beer added up to 20,000 colones (50.00) Ouch!. The beer is reasonable though.

Another thing about La Central, if somthing bad is going to happen to you, its probably going to be there, as an hour after I left that night a guy got shot dead in the bathroom, after some kind of fight outside. This is also a center for drug dealing.

Another place to find girls is Pancho Villa bar and resteraunt. This is where the locals go at 2 after the Beetle Bar closes. This is also a strip/ sex club upstairs, but you are going to pay as much as the Beetle Bar and more with only a fraction of the selection and the facilities to do it are kind of rough.

I also visited Tamarindo and there is a good scene there, although I went for ladies night at Bar Las Olas, and it was basicaly a medium sized group of non-pro to semi pro ticas all very hot going with the most attractive surfers they could find, and I ended up dry and frustrated, although there are possibilities in Tamarindo, and it was pretty fun anyway, and I went to a little no name private bar afterward and had a really good time.

I also stopped briefly in Coco Beach, its medium sized and looked like a good time, although I didn't stay and check it out.

As for me I had another night together with my lovely favorite, it was better than the first time, included a pool swim, and she agreed to give me a lift to San Jose, and possibly another night at her place, but she blew me off, and I was devastated, but I kind of think in some cases they promise somthing for the next day in hopes of building up thier fee, and I just gave her my usual 35,000. Whether this was a mistake, or she wasn't coming back anyway, I dont know, but I would not recommend feeding the greed; as 100 bucks is like two weeks pay for a tica, I think.

Tamarindo has lots of activity: nightlife, surfing, and fishing.

Yes, definitely lots of women looking for fun.

Yes, good surfing if the conditions are right (but crowded, due to being a known spot and a large local surf population). Hint--get up early to beat the crowd (might be hard if you are out late chasing skirts).

Yes, good fishing, but expensive if you go on a sportsboat.

Regarding the Caribbean coast--

There are pros, but they are 99% drug users and the corresponding headaches are not worth it. While the area is nice to travel to, bring talent from San Jose, or try to work it with regular locals and other tourists. Lots of horny German girls on that coast looking for black action, so if you are of that race, you will do well. In general, plenty of partying in Cahuita and Puerto Viejo, so just go to the local bars and discos and try to be suave. Helps if you can dance to reggae.

Real Thrill - I talked with a local who goes there for vacation. He says there isn't much action. Your best bet is to meet a woman in San Jose and tell her you have a proposition for her. Ask her her fee for the number fo days you are taking her and negotiate from there. I did this with two women (and 8 and a 9). Prices aren't cheap these days in San jose, so figure $80 -$100 for each day plus travel, dinks, food, etc...

My advice, try and pick up a chickie who is on vacation there or hit on a local gal (that's what I do). If your talk is smooth and you make an effort to dance and chat, the sky is the limit from my experience. If nothing else, some locals may be able to point you in the right direction.

I stayed in a real nice hotel, in Jaco in February, on the main hihway for less then $20 per night. This was the high season. Bus fare was around $5 each way. Cabs get there no faster than buses.

I went to jaco for several days,it is a little surfer community. It has a lot of small hotels with resonable rates. I stayed at the Posidan Hotel It is only about 25 yds from the beach. I paid 50 dollars a night. It has a bar called the Beatle Bar. There are a lot of Colombian girls there. I had 1 columbian and 1 girl from nicaragua. Both were excellent. There is a disco there La Central,i went at 11'oclock and it was not very crowed. They told me that it gets crowed very late. I walked every where and it is very safe. There are cabs if you want one. The resturants are very resonable.I had a very good chicken and rice dish for only 1700 colones. There are many small sodas with excellent food. a lot of the sodas have rooms for rent. Along the main highway fromJaco to manuel Antoinio you have the rain forrest on the left side and the ocean on the right. I booked Interbus form the Hotel Del Rey for 17 dollars each way. Most cab drivers wanted 80 dollars just to take you there. If any one has questions please contact me.
