Also, should I pay in USD or DP for chicas, restaurants, drinks etc?

I believe ST is 1800 p and TLN is 3400 p if I remember right. Definitely pay in pesos, cheaper rate as BB will get a cut conversion wise if you pay in $. Always stop at Yennys just inside the gates of Costambar to exchange money before getting to BB. Girls expect to be paid in pesos too. They can't do the math conversion to $. LOL I will bring $1's US for tips though, for the maid, restaurant at BB.

BB is a lot nicer then FOD (Field of Dreams) and I would combine BB with a night or two in Sosua where there is crazy nightlife with tons of freelancers and great party atmosphere. From there you go to BB for a few days and just chill!

I had first gone to BB back in 2005, and went regularly for a few years, but haven't been back lately, so know nothing of the current generation of chicas, and the latest protocols.

Familiar with the hotel, though, and think its an island of excellence in the DR.

Only hope the new owners can keep up the quality of experience whenever that happens.

They all paid the fine on their next day back to work for violation of work rules. Since then it hasn't been a problem. Finding a TLN might be tough on NYE so plan ahead. I've always found New Years Day to be fairly quiet and relaxing and in my experience the hotel seems to empty out a bit for a couple of days before new mongers start arriving again. My wings and I just went with the flow and adapted. The pussy count might be a bit down on New Years Day but spikes right back up the next night. You should be fine.

How long are you there? If a week or more then, yes, you will want to get out of Costambar now and then. But most people want to "escape" in the daytime when it is deadly quiet. You could visit the beach at Cofresi if a beach guy (the beach at Costambar is okay for walking along but not great for swimming). You could take a trip up the Teleferico (cable car).

I presume you are not looking to pick up putas in Pto Pta? Not a lot of point in paying a small premium to stay at Blackbeards in order to have putas at hand if you are going to search for them in Pto Pta.

But if you want to just socialize with non-putas, the bars along Avenida Luis Ginebra are where the middle-class bright young things hang out. Or a more socially-mixed crowd in Calle 16 Agosto.

If you want an authentic local experience which you cannot get in Sosua or elsewhere in Pto Pta, visit La Embajada (I think it is still called that but it changes its name more often than I change my underpants). It is on the Costambar side of town, fifty yards along Penetracion towards El Muelle from the junction with the main highway from Costambar. It is where I spent my happiest hours when young (still under 70, I mean). The chicas are mostly fat and plain but you get the rare gem. I am still living with one of the latter group five years later. Be aware that it is a real low dive. My friend said that he had "lost the will to live" after visiting the gents toilet so make sure you go before entering the joint. You can dance bachata and merengue on a tiny dance floor. The air is smoky and the music deafening (though I have suffered worse in Sosua). Drink prices are cheap, of course, because this is where the underclass go. Be prepared for police raids (no problem if you have a copy of your passport) and the occasional fight with flying bottles once near closing time.

Of course, there is always Crystals. But why pay inflated drink prices to look at chicas who are no better than those at Blackbeards, just have more make-up?

What about dancing? Are you a Latin dancer? There are places for that.

Goes without saying you will need some Spanish for all the above (except the tourist stuff like the cable car). If you have no Spanish you will find it difficult to get around and will lay yourself open to scams. In this case I would stay on campus.

I have stayed there twice and have no desire to go again. The girls were fine but not outstanding. What I did not like is the girls are a captives. 10% of the girls get 90% of the action. Most seem very disinterested. As soon as you get a nut they are putting their panties back on looking for the next guy. Usually there 2 or 3 nice girls out of the 20. The 8 or 9 guys in the place are all trying to get the same girls. However when I get to the point where I can no longer have swag BB might be the place. Rumbas has 3 times the girls on Monday that BB has on a Saturday night.

Blackbeards maybe good for novice monger as well as mongers who like all inclusive atmosphere which means everything is provided for and no haggling over price. Personally I like thrill of the chase and if I find a GFE like to keep her and travel with her which is not possible in BB.

There are plenty of friendly girls in Sosua. As everybody knows attraction between people varies. But I have found many nice girls who give good service. Of course there are many stuck up girls demanding more money and offering lousy service but you take good with bad. Ultimately good girls do make a good impression you remember and want to go back again.

Thanks for the detailed reporting on your entire trip. It made for great reading. And I'm glad that Blackbeard's was one of the highlights. I couldn't agree more.

Some random thoughts about BB's.

This is not a brand new shiny resort, but in general it is well maintained. They were doing some improvements while I was there (one night they were grinding out the grout between the tiles in the bar area; went on to a little past 1 am; was rather annoying). I stayed in the Jacuzzi room. The room is large, but I never actually used the Jacuzzi. I started to fill it up, but due to low water pressure I figured it would take a few hours. In addition, the tub also doubles for where you shower; the water drains slow (if take a longer shower the water will come up to your ankles) and leaves quite a bit of soap scum on the tub. As I started to fill the Jacuzzi the soap scum formed a layer on top of the water; not something I wanted to bathe in, so I just gave up on the idea. The bed was large and comfy, there's a good sized safety box in the closet, a fully stocked mini-bar / fridge (don't remember who posted, but mine did have some candy bars, LOL).

The staff was always friendly and helpful. Service at both the bar and resto was top notch. The girls were also friendly and not pushy about servicing you or about buying them drinks. However, if you did get one of them a drink they were very appreciative. I also bought dinner / breakfast for a few of them (we ate together) and without exception the girls would share whatever was left over with the other girls. Like any other work place the girls had their own little cliques, but I did not detect any animosity between them; not once did any staff member or chica have anything bad to say about BB's or each other.

As far as looks are concerned, the 20+ chicas who work there range IMHO from 3's to 8's, from light to dark and from thin / curvy to quite chubby, but as tastes are highly subjective I can only suggest you go there for yourself and decide. I will add that that the girls look much better in person then in most of the pics in BB's newsletter. I almost didn't even recognize one chica I was with whose pic was in a recent newsletter (Bikini contestant). Talk to the mamas an, she knows her girls, keeps them in line and can probably (within reason) accommodate any special requests.

I know some will argue that there's no challenge, no "thrill of the hunt" or maybe they might even be afraid of not finding a girl they like, but for me, after coming off a grueling 14 week work contract, it was exactly the type of place I needed and the selection of girls did not disappoint me. In fact I was tempted to return for a few days before I left as there were a few more girls there I wanted, but did not have time for. Although I may not become a regular visitor to the DR, BB's will certainly see me again every time I do visit (as long as they at least maintain the current standards; especially if the place does get sold).

You certainly sold me on BB. I always thought their average quality is better than Sosua's average quality.

I do not have a dog in this fight. I have defended both Sosua and Blackbeards at times and also criticized certain aspects of both places.

But your comment, while true, is not very helpful. Averages are not relevant in this comparison. Let us say, hypothetically, that:

Blackbeards has 10 "8"s, 10 "7"s, 10 "6"s, and 10 "5"s. Total: 40 chicas.

Sosua has 10 "9"s, 25 "8"s, 40 "7"s, 40 "6"s, 40 "5"s, 40 "4"s, 40 "3"s. Total: 235 chicas.

Blackbeards would clearly have the higher average quality, as you rightly claim. But that is irrelevant, because Joe Monger will simply ignore everything below "7"s in both places. All that matters to him is that there is a greater choice of "7"s and above in Sosua.

Both places have their advantages depending upon the monger's budget, mobility, street smarts, and (above all) knowledge of Spanish. But quality of chica should not decide his choice of venue.

We are all different in our resources and requirements. Much as I admire Blackbeards, I would never take a chica from there. Why? Because I only go with haitianas and there have been none there for the past several years. Not an issue for 98% of you, but as I say, we all have our peculiarities.
