I find it interesting how different perspectives and experiences can be when people are visiting / living in the same place. Years of living in the Dominican Republic and I have never had a girl scam me in a sexual situation or any other. Plenty experiences of scamming men. You pretty much know when most of them are lying. Now I have been to Blackbeards. Long time ago. And did not partake. Not my type of place. But what I saw did not look bad. So I do not actually know from experience that Happy Hour in the DR is not for me. And I have not experienced the scam.

Exchange $ at Jennys. When I was there last month, the Crow's nest upstairs was closed due to Covid.

All activities were downstairs. Happy Hour is 2 girls & you pay both the standard fee 2500 p currently, 1 leche & they're both gone unless you can negotiate before hand 1 leche / chica. Have fun! Food is pretty good ther, as well as the current chicas on site.

Don't bother to change money before you go or at the airport. Tell the driver you need to stop at Yenny's. It is immediately on the right as you enter Costambar. Yenny's always has good rates. You have to go to the back to change the money--just say "cambio" when you arrive.

Also, get provisions at Jenny's.

I have not been there in a while so I can't answer about Covid but once the Chicas are drinking I don't think you can make them stop from dancing. Blackbeards is not a club. However, some nights upstairs at the Parrot Bar they have some theme where the girls dress in certain colors etc.

I don't get the "happy hour" at Blackbeards. It is 5 pm, happy hour, 6 pm etc. And I do not believe there is any difference in price, service lece etc.

Sometimes the girls want you to make "appointments". Do so if you want but remember when they show up for the appointment, you need to pay regardless of how you feel. So I never booked "appointments".

Just relax when you are there and ask the other guests questions. It's a good spot and great fun.

Genesis is highly recommended by many, but not all the guests. If you like her in person she is definitely worth trying. Due to high popularity, she might be tired in the middle or at the end of the shift, try to be her first client of the day.

In all my encounters at BB, I never had a really bad experience. General recommendations for a chica are usually quite useless as everyone has their own preferences. The very same chica could be a blast on Monday and a so-so experience on Tuesday due to lack of sleep, a hangover, a sick kid at home, or a million other reasons. If your Spanish is decent try to talk to chicas or find the one who speaks at least a little bit of English. Google Translate is also an option.

Thinking about making a trip soon to DR. Is this generally the best first timer resort? I'm a veteran traveler to Brazil. Looking for the 411 for a newbie including hidden taxes, fees and general info that's good to know. Also curious about the beaches and best locations to visit.

My recommendation to most is to try Blackbeards for a couple of days, then venture out. The food at BB is decent, and there are a couple of good restaurants on the beach and nearby. The beach is ok here, not the best. I haven't been to Sosua in two years, but if you read the forum, you will get the latest info. I am hoping to get there this summer so I can see what the changes are. A few more bars in Sosua, it has a nice beach with lot's of restaurants on the beach and around town. Cabarete is about 10 miles from Sosua. A very nice beach, a little more expensive. You will see a few chicas peddling their wares, but probably best to use Tinder, etc. Depending on how much time you have, Las Terranas is on the North east. Beautiful beachs there and on the way from Sosua.

Lot's of other places of the island for beautiful beaches.
