Firstly, thanks for reporting back on Barba Negra and on Cristal in the Puerto Plata section.

Yanqui69 and OldKool have commented well, but one thing puzzles me. JavaMan is a vastly experienced monger in numerous parts of the world. Moreover, he speaks Spanish. He should have been more than capable of handling Sosua, or Santo Domingo, on his first visit to the DR. Barba Negra is great for some guys, especially first-timers, but I would not have expected JavaMan to stay there.

Even more surprising, if he wanted a spell off campus, why go to a notorious sucker trap like Cristal? He seems to like girls approaching him (I hate it) so he would have been better off at the revamped Field of Dreams. A little cheaper than Cristal and plenty of flacas would try to engage him there. Some guys work Cristal by collecting phone numbers and meeting the girls out of hours, but I have never seen the point of that. Or he could have tried Kviar.

I was at BB 10 days ago. I should have stayed 4 days and gone to Sosua for the remainder of my trip. This was my first trip to the DR. Initially I was going to meet a friend there but he was unable to make it. I should have done more research on this place. As Geolopes stated, it's in a gated community. They have a taxi mafia that will gouge you to take you anywhere. The Rat Bastards won't let Uber in too.

Some of the BB girls are on the chubby side. There were several Hot Babes. However, my issue with the BB girls: they're not GFE. If all you want is a fuk and a suk, It's the place. For the most part, they will not approach you. If they do, it's only to ask when you'll take them to your room. Only One BB chick was GFE: unfortunately I forgot her name. She's thick, big tits and ass.

A BB regular told me, before the girls where more active, like playing in the pool and doing things with the guests. Now they're just sitting around waiting, playing on their phones or sleeping.

Another DR regular told me the girls had similar attitudes throughout the DR. They'll be hot to trot in the bar, but in the room they don't deliver as promised.

Towards the end of my stay at BB, I was frustrated and didn't take any girls to my room.

The food at BB is good. Do visit Las Pizzaria Solemio, and Ricks Cafe in the area. I highly recommend Las Rocas Steakhouse, it was a pleasant surprise. On the beach, I ate at El Cary and Friky Beach. All these places are walking distance from BB.

I went to the DR, because I had heard it referred to as Rio lite. NO Way, based on this trip.

The lack of GFE you describe is found EVERYWHERE, even in Sosua. Its something one finds on an individual basis, not a universal guarantee. I believe the chicas at BB are told by the hotel management not to be aggressive, or harass the guests, so they will wait for the guests to make the first move. Just wondering, do you speak any Spanish? Some chicas may speak English to varying degrees, but many do not. Not much basis for interaction or conversation other than gong to the room.

My Spanish is good, so in the past, I was able to chat a bit with a chica, establishing some rapport. Without that, a monger's conversation is limited to "suckee, fuckee" or Freaky freaky". To some extent, it also depends on the monger a bit. How do you behave with the chicas? Do you try to chat, maybe compliment them or flirt a little, or do you treat them in a cold, "business-like" manner? To a degree, you get out what you put in. (I suspect their non-use of the pool, etc, may be due to similar instructions).

In my personal experience, the atmosphere is much the same in Sosua. Competition for clients is fierce. Many will promise much and deliver little. Also many rushed "wham bam" types. Occasionally one may find a non-hardcore type. Bottom line is the experience is much the same. The chief benefit to BB is that you won't encounter scam artists, druggies, drama queens, thieves, or frauds threatening to call the cops on you. If you do have a complaint, you have someone to complain to.

NO place can guarantee you a GFE on a regular basis.

I have stayed at BB twice. If Sosua did not exist it would a choice I would make. However as long as I have some swagger Sosua is my 1st choice. The Sosua girls are more varied and have provided me with many awesome experiences. BB became boring to me. Most guys sitting around waiting for the same girl. BB is a great option for some guys. Some were easy walking distance to BB's though I've never stayed at any. BB's has very good wifi depending on your room, strongest by the pool and bar / restaurant area. So, if you can accept calls on your phone plan it won't be a problem. Costambar has its own beach nearby for the fake cover photos you'll need later. If you golf there's a 9 holer inside the community with gear rentals for more cover pics to establish your bonifides with your lady at home. Just walk by some place for rent and shoot a few pic outside and then take a few more of your BB's room and the pool without chicas present. Their only Penthouse suite looks like a small apartment if you can afford it, around $139.00 per night last time I was there and would provide decent cover pics. Money exchange at Yenny's market as soon as you pass the guard shack offers one of the best exchange rates in that area. I always exchange $1,000 USD on my way in. Tons of foreign expats live there so the retail service level is better than typical DR standards where they seem to hate their customers, WTF? Good luck. Geo.

When in the DR I have always stayed at hotels that I could tell the significant other about and leave the number- places like a family resort. But this time I want to stay at Blackbeards for part of my stay, and obviously I can't give her that number. Any ideas? The best I can think of is telling her I'll be at an Airbnb on the beach and there's no phone. Another option is enrolling with the USA Embassy in their Smart Traveler program.

I could leave her with the Embassy's number for emergencies. Of course I will have my cell phone and have it on, um, most of the time. LOL. The embassy, or even a hotel number would be for the highly, highly unlikelihood that she could not reach me by cell.

Thoughts? I appreciate suggestions from others who have been in this situation.

You've already gotten some response, this is my two cents.

Do not exchange money at BB if possible. They give a poor rate. Also, pay your bill in pesos, not dollars, for the same reason.

You can go to WU, banks, money exchange offices, etc, but frankly, Jenny's in Costambar is perfectly acceptable. As it is on the way, only 5 minutes from BB, etc, it can't be beat for convenience. Its rate is always pretty good. Have the cab wait outside while you make an initial exchange.

I have exchanged 200-300 dollars there with no problem.

I've exchanged $1000 at Jenny's no problem. You are correct, pay BB in pesos, especially when checking out. They have different rates for checking in & out.

Thinking whether it would be a better move just to have my local bank order some Dominican Pesos and take them down with me? Am I understanding the rates correctly at BB for a rough conversion to dollars?

Mr. Tempoecorto is spot on. The dollar has maintained it's near historical highs despite falling out of bed against most other major currencies in the market. That being said my go to place to buy pesos is Carribe Express. The have a website. There are independent money changing establishments along with banks in SDQ. But I'm uncertain of the hours they keep. I can't speak to the availability of the exchange locations in the other airports. Having a few pesos in your pocket to get you through your first day is good if your local bank is not going to hose you on the exchange rate. If Blackbeard resort is your final destination and you don't plan to move around you have the weigh the transport costs of looking for a better rate outside the establishment against the rate the establishment is willing to give you.

Arrived from Santo Domingo with a bus to Puerto plata caribe tours station bus ticket cost 350 pesos. From station catch uber to BB resort for 150 pesos. Is not so many ubers at Puerto plata so sometimes need to wait they will show on app. I think most difficult time is catch uber at late night and early morning like between 2 am - 7 am around Puerto plata I try these times and never see any drivers. Check in at BB was easy nice and friend stuff is working there. The place is well maintained with nice swimming pool, jacuzzi, disco upstairs, bar, pool table 22 rooms. Girls cost is 2100 pesos for short time (can last up to1- 2 hours) and long time is 3400 (if some over mongers told me correctly because I never done LT there myself) Blowjob at jacuzzi cost 500 pesos but if you cum you need to pay full price (one girl told me like that so I can't be 100 percent sure) I don't try get blowjob at jacuzzi myself. They have 2 shifts here first start around 11 am till 5 pm or simillar and second from 5 pm till 11 am. They have book here with girls photos and if you ask they will show you. Some girls are good looking here some aint, but every day girls rotating so you always can find someone new also work one girl from venezuela here.
