Second trip in a couple of months, and Blackbeard's was the last stop before coming home. I spent four days here. (see Sosua and Cabarete reports).

Kind of the same as my last report. The first day, I saw Jina (China?) who I saw on the last trip. Under 5', looks Asian in the face, great body, works out several days a week. Sweet personality. All girls did BBBJ. She has a great personality, speaks pretty good English. She at least faked an O' contracting the muscles tight. I had two sessions with her, was hoping to have another, but she didn't return.

Another 2 sessions with Estrella. Long hair, slim body, light caramel skin. The body looks like Tony's sister in scarface, but the face is not the same. I think I had 3 sessions with her, including a hot tub BJ. No English, but good personality. The other chica on this trip was Vanessa. She is exotic looking, about 5' 8", full see's, pretty eyes, brownish skin. She gave one of the best BBBJ's ever, including deep throat. I had three sessions with her. She swallowed the evidence each time. All good this time, no upsale. The price for short time is $1800 as listed in the guide. I usually tipped at least $300.

I tried some of the restaurants suggestions, unfortunately, the Catamaran was under renovation / moving? I ate at Sole Mia, not many choices in walking distance at night. During the day, if you walked out of BB's toward the ocean, take a left and walk down the beach, there is a cluster of beach restaurants. I ate a great Burger at El Carey. The seafood I saw others eating looked good.

I ate at Estella del Mar one day on the beach. The shrimp dish, garlic sauce I think, were fresh and tasty.

Lot's of folks at BB's on return trips, some seem to come several times a year. If you are looking for stuff to do at night, you are out of luck unless you take a cab, drive, etc. I liked spreading the trip out into several locations as I did this time.

I think next time that I will pay for food and drinks at BB's as I go. Several mistakes on the bill that I caught, but four days of drinking with a couple of meals was less than $120 US. I usually come close to that, if not more, on a weekend at home.

I am in Puerto Plata. I went to Village Cafe for diner. Unfortunately it was closed. I was told that they will open up a new one on Malecon but they did not know where on Malecon and when.

Fortunately for you it was closed, you would have had a heart attack when they brought you the check, hahaha.

Agree 100%, Catamaran is best deal on the beach, excellent food & cheap drinks. The village cafe is the best, Great steaks.

So at the advice of a member here, in contemplation of a first vist to BB, I sent and email to BB and they sent me a reply very quickly with a complete run down along with 2 pages of available girls with their photos. Yes some cuties are currently available.

I am pretty sure the photos will be from the most recent bikini show. You can read my post below, but you will see girls like that during the show. Many of them leave, but you will see some of them stay. I just received photos yesterday, I saw some in the photos that I had seen a two months ago. Well worth the visit.

I am going to spend at least 4 days at BB's. Last time I just ate onsite. Are there any good restaurants nearby worth trying, or any worth getting a taxi for?

I was there in may sole mio is good and the catamaran, also I ate at a cafe across from jenny's market called Pedro's cafe food was good there too. There's a taxi price list by front desk.

The Catamaran restaurant at the far end of the road on the beach, great place, a long walk or short moto ride from BB's. There is one other decent restaurant on the beach also but the name escapes me, I'm sure that Nico or Cliff (the managers at BB's) would know the name of it. A taxi to Pto Pta from BB's will cost you a small fortune, but if money doesn't matter go to the Village Cafe, the best restaurant in the city in my opinion.

Just around the corner from BB was an Italian place, Sole Mio. You would see it on the way to the hotel. Usually a lot of Europeans there. Depending on your taste, there were a couple of places serving locally caught fish and a variety of seafood. Not fancy, but not expensive, located in Maimon, a few miles past Costambar. On the main road from Puerto Plata. Not sure what cab fare would be, I usually drove. Just ask the cabbie for the "pescaderia" in Maimon.

I would exercise prudence at all times, anyway in the DR, ie, limiting travel alone at night, being aware of my surroundings, never carrying anything I could not afford to lose, etc.

As you would even in your own city, or generally when traveling.

I am not particularly brave or large. I stayed in Custombar for one month in 2015 and felt no consternation whatsoever. Custom bar is a gated community. Know trouble makers are not allowed in. BTW I love Black Beards.

Anyway I'm curious what in the world has changed there to make people so fearful? I bought and smoked dope, drank too much and wandered around fear free. Albeit, during the day. I'm considering another visit there this winter, hence my perusal of the DR forum. If any of the old hands have an explanation for all the fear, please advise. Thanks.

This was recently a topic of discussion between myself and Manizales911, and I guess we agreed to disagree. He is a smart guy and has been residing in the DR for a while, so I am loathe to contradict him. A couple of his associates have been victims of violent street crime, so he has some cause to urge caution.

That said, my experience in Costambar was similar to yours. I would not be so careless in other circumstances, locations, but I feel Costambar has some mitigating factors.

I confess that I have never changed money at Jenny's by night, as I was usually enjoying my evenings at BB, so things might be different, but I have never felt threatened.

Costambar is a low traffic area, predominantly frequented by European expats living nearby and the mongers at BB. The manned entry gate is not perfect, and one could easily circumvent it, but it is within view of Jenny's, the pharmacy, shops, etc. And in the low traffic environment, strange characters loitering in the area would be noticed by the gate and / or the business owners. It is in their interest to keep the area safe for customers to frequent their businesses. I have gone to some of the local shops, restaurants in the evening, with no problem. (It is also a good idea to go out with a local, as it is their world, and they can pick up on potential danger signals before we gringos might).

I've changed large amounts there many times. I would not advise walking back to BB's after doing so though.
