Detailed report:

It was a bit late in the evening on July 1 and I decided to check out Spas with potential extras (from the various cards stuck in my car window). This was just outside Holiday Inn Al Barsha. I wanted to visit a spa and get a massage, rather than visiting one of the many private room sex services.

Decided to try out a spa on the 7th floor of a retired-supersonic tower in Dubai Media City. Hadn't been there and I also fancied a bit of a massage on my middle back and upper thighs. And I sort or recalled that I might have read about that spa here on ISG, but could not recollect any details.

Parked the car in the almost empty parking lot of the building. It's apparently paid parking but all barriers and machines were off, providing free access. It was a bit before 2245 and the paid parking time was clearly mentioned as being from 0700 till midnight.

Called the number on the card and was told that they are open till midnight (note to self: It would have made better sense to call BEFORE driving here).

Took my small kit bag and walked into the building. As a visitor, you have to approach the reception counter and tell the security which office you want to go to. I mentioned the office number (702) and he directed me to a specific elevator.

Went up and found that the 702 is a Chiropractic clinic. And it is closed. WTF?

Maybe. Just maybe, I am at the wrong floor.

So I went back down and rechecked the card (note to self: next time, carry the business card). And it turns out to be on the same floor, but a different office number.

Went back inside and told the security guard that I wanted to go back to 7th. Lied to him that I had forgotten something in my car.

Tip 1: I never check the menu or even ask "how much". I just put down AED 100 and say "60 minutes" or "1 hour". Or, if I really want a longer session, I put down 150 and say that I want 90 minutes. Even if the place wants a LOT more, the 100 upfront is a good starting point and will mostly be accepted. So far, I have only ended up at two places where they have insisted on an additional amount. All other places will settle for 100 even if the receptionist will pout at you in mock protest. Of course, sometimes, places have special offers of 79 or 89 -- I will then pay the special offer price (and ignore the AED 1 change).

The bored receptionist of indeterminate species then called out "LISAAAAAAAAAAAAA. LISSSSSSAAAAAA!" (Note to self: Re-classify receptionist as human as she can clearly speak like one).
