Generally, they don't care about chicas, it ain't like SJ or Jaco unless you bring it up and don't please do that. BestWEstern, contraqry to earlier post is not, nor is CostaVerde, but they are out of your price range. $50 is not going to get you much in MA that time of year and anyway the two best monger places are downtown Quepos, see my previous. That's a $5 taxi ride each way. No mongering places in MA.

There are places in that price range in Quepos in March. Le Priss, is one, maybe, in cash-and it's OK; Hotel Sanchez, to me not acceptable. A few others along that line. Google around cheap hotels quepos and manuel antonio but other then a dump you are not going to find much in high season for $50, sorry.

Sow in Quepos in October, still raining and not many tourists so no tmany girls. High season better selection at the bar you mention and next door. Don't count on Best Western being chica friendly. Usually not, maybe a low season exception unless they recently changed policies, and I've been going to Quepos 16 years.

    Quepos and MA feedback

Following on my SJ feedback, I just add a few lines regarding Quepos.

After a few days in SJ and seeing the prices I was in money saving mode for transport and hotel. So I went to Quepos by public bus. BTW they now depart from Trapoca station. 1.5k taxi ride from La Amistad. I went there in the morning to check it out and buy ticket (their phone didn't reply) , but it wasn't necessary as it is perfectly safe and you can buy ticket if you go 30min earlier. Unless it's a special holiday.

They tell you a lot about how dangerous everything is and you should not go anywhere or do anything alone and pay high prices to hire a car / driver or get a guide, but don't listen and go for it with some common sense and research you save a lot. I found they have a whole set up in CR for dumb gringos to extract money from, try to avoid it.

I also tried Best Western hotel but found the prices high $73, and also they didn't have a room for all my stay and wanted me to change room and move the next day. I went round the corner to hotel Malinche, $30 single (no guests) or $45 for double (chica ok). Small rooms but clean and everything works, A / C, WiFi ok in my room but I was downstairs near the reception. No fridge though, no safe box, luck your stuff. No luxury but adequate.

It's just 100m from Los Pescadores which is the only place with chicas. About 5/6 Dominicanas and a 3/4 ticas, really below par, I wouldn't do them if I didn't have to! The only treat were a couple of ticas that came with me on the bus! I guessed they looked a bit out of place, I also saw them on the beach alone and then in that bar at night, then I figured. Then they also recognised me from the bus.

I remember they had lost their suitcase's tickets (which they give so you can re-collect them at the end of the trip) and had a fight with the driver until they found it again! So we talked and laughed about it. They were weekend warriors from SJ, come every other weekend to make some money. Couldn't work in SJ due to not wanting to be recognized. Fun to hang around with and we went to check out a few other bars, like Music, disco Republica and local hang out disco Arco Iris (rainbow). All walking distance (Quepos is fairly safe to walk, unless very late may be). Nothing interesting, mostly young tourists. Some other nights I went on my own and they were some locals but they wouldn't give me the time of the day, generally I found younger (tica) locals not approachable in CR, in some other places I have been I found it easier, I speak some Spanish and can dance fairly good. But no chance in CR. Though I haven't spend much time in CR to be fair.

Anyway, the 2 SJ weekenders realized I'm not a big spender and when I joked about their $100 quote we split, I took the number of one and called her late at night when I realised there are the best I could find. A ST for $60 was arranged, not a bad session, no DFK but BBBJ was ok. Another night I took the other one but she refused BBBJ and would not budge, so I asked for the first one to come, she then came and got mad that I revealed she did BBBJ the night before to her friend, what a big deal! Anyway kicked both out and called a DR girl I got a number from in Los Pescadores, ST $60, no problem with anything, DFK, BBBJ and two shots, stay until I asked her to leave. Though fairly chubby and way below my standard!

That was all the chica adventures I had in Quepos, I also got another DR chica number but didn't hook up. I went to Bamboo Jam one night (2k taxi each way on the way to MA) as they had live music, nice place to hang out with locals and tourists, specially if you can dance, small place no WG though.

BTW the Arco Iris was suppose to be good Sat late night for locals, but they wanted 3k just to enter (at 2am) , no drinks with that (Republic is 2k). I wanted to first look inside and they wouldn't let me, Thr night was free entry early and I went inside at 11:30pm and there was no one in, very large place though, so wanted to check this time before paying, no go, it was late and I skipped.

In the hindsight I would have taken that DR chica from SJ ($50 a day, see my post there) , but I didn't know. Again I heard more girls come later on, I was there early Jan which was low season apparently as far as chicas concerned. They mostly go home for holidays in this period.

On the positive side I loved the MA beach, huge beach and nice clean waters, did canopy tour (loved it, great fun, you should do it at least once). Did a ATV tour. Not really worth it, do horse riding instead or rafting. Didn't get to do volcano, I heard weather is mostly cloudy during Jan. If I ever go back to CR it would be to take someone with me to Quepos & MA and enjoy the beach.

In CR and more in Quepos & MA they add the damn 13% or 16% tax plus 10% service sometime without telling you, so make sure you always check. Also there are quite a few gays (note spelling is correct!) in Quepos & MA, they have their own disco as well, so don't get too friendly with a guy thinking of a wingman and you might get more than you bargain for! LOL.

Ask or PM for any questions. RTFF the boards and you learn all you need. Thanks for all the help.

    Cheers,

Most of the food along the MA road was decent, but nothing special. The prices sucked and the flavors were average but the portions were always good. There were a few high points. Cafe Agua Azul is good but pricey and almost L. A. Snotty. CAFE MILAGRO is superb. They have a coffee roaster in town but their restaurant in MA is fantastic. Cafe Milagro has a chorizo and calamari appetizer that is perfectly orgasmic.

The bus between MA Quepos is very easy (17 min. During the day. 33 min at night) and if you're spending any time there, will save you a ton of money. Along the way from Quepos to MA is a Strip Bar called 'Las Sirenas'. My party tried going there twice but they were closed by 1:00 AM, so it never worked out. It doesn't appear to be open during the day.

In Quepos, along the street that is parallel to the sea wall is the Best Western and Casino. This is the hub of all vice and debauchery in town. The casino is safe and is teaming with chicas of all shapes and sizes. It closes down on the weekends at 4:00 AM. Across the side street are 'Whacky Wanda's' and 'Los Pescadores', both of which are clean and have cheap drinks. They are just small bars with normal chairs, booth's and bar stools, but are teaming with working girls. In fact, it is difficult to look around or in any of the mirrors behind the bar and not make eye contact, at which point. They jump you.

I stayed in Costa Verde which is the hotel with the room in the 727 fuselage [google it]. I got a great rate and had a bungalo with a kitchenette. 2 beds for about $88 / day. They are not chica friendly as they have a 24 hour security guard, but it would have been easy to bring a 'friend' to your room during the day. It was very near the beach and about half way between the Park Entrance and Quepos. I was there with a wedding and visited about 20 other hotels, condo's, rooms and was very pleased with the $/value that I had.

My advice would be to stay / beach in the tourist trap that is MA but for late night bars and girls go to town. Avoid the drug dealers and the pimps in the bars can be skipped. Just deal with the girls unless you want 'new amigo's' to buy drinks for.
Actually at Costa Verde you can have a guest as long as you sign them in.

At least that is what I was told by security.

I have had guests without signing them in.

It all depends if security is at their post or walking around.

I have seen several men bring girls from San Jose with them and stay at Costa Verde.

    Quepos Hotels

I don't know anything about Quepos hotels but they all looked very sketch. Even the Best Western didn't look like someplace I'd like to stay. It was like boarder town Mexico or any city in Cuba [other than Havana]. If you are looking to relax by at the pool and have drinks brought to you, I can't think of a place in Quepos.

It all depends on what you're looking for in a vacation, I suppose. If you're looking for a room circa '81 to 'sleep' in between chicas while you go on excursions during the day, then stay in Quepos. Personally, I don't care to fly 1000's of miles and not have some relaxing down time in a semi-comfortable space. To each their own.

I can tell you that if you go North out of Quepos you can visit the old port / marina, Boca Veijo. It's walking distance. Just cross the one lane bridge that leaves town to the North along the sea wall, go past the school and to the left back in a working man's neighborhood is a bar called 'El Pescadito'. I spent 4-6 hours their and found it very authentic. They have a large women up front cooking GREAT food for cheap and any number of kinds of people coming in and out. I was offered turtle eggs and a few other types of contraband that shall remain nameless. There was a strip-club in this area as well but it was closed and had a for-sale sign in front of it. Anyone want to start a business with me?

I had a re-think and thought may be it's better to stay at central Quepos and only bus / taxi to the beach during the day time, rather than do the opposite from hotel to the bars at night.

I found a good deal on Best Western on the web but I hear they are very strict about guests (any new intel on this! Some say you can take upstairs from their own casino but not from outside!). Hotel Malinche is an option, but I read it's very low-end! So I am still looking for a hotel option near Quepos town center.

Of course failing that, there is always MA options.

There are 100 hotels on the road to the beach in MA. You need to decide if you want to be on (only a few) or near the beach, or "up on the hill" which means a cab or bus ride to the beach, but nice hotels. There are only two on the beach that I rec'd. Karahe and Verde Mar, both have websites, Verde Mar have kitchenettes, the beach side of Karahe's (it's on both sides of the road) are newer and nicer, but no kitchens. I prefer Verde Mar for that reason, nice to have a little "snack bar" at your disposal all day / nite. Cab is about $5 each way to Quepos, regular bus service but alot of stops and slow (up the hill, down the hill).

    Quepos Daytime or Afternoon Fun

I heading to the Quepos / MA Area this week and was wondering if there is any daytime or afternoon joints. By this I mean, Strip Joints, Brothels, or by the hour girls who are easy to work with. I am traveling with a group and many of the wives and girlfriends would not approve of "playing" so there needs to be someway that I can get away discretely. Also, I can't just disappear at midnight to go find the only game in town.

I'd prefer a strip joint where I could get the bump and grind from a beautiful tica. Any advice? The time's running out.

La Sirena, aka Sirena, is a small white hotel, centro, pool, breakfast, the rooms are very, very close to the pool, so if some people are partying late or kids are playing early, you ain't sleeping. Same thing with the kitchen. Was for sale in May 2011. If noise doesn't bother you, pretty good value.

I think Las Sirenas is now called Leyla's or Layla's on the way out to the airport. Used to be a major clip joint. You can rent a room at Leyla's, girls live there too. Prices dropped dramatically in the redone Disco, beers are now normal price. 6-8 girls, nothing special, $50 half hour. Bunch of Tico's were drinking when I stopped in May 2011 to check it out. Other than their 4-some, was empty.

    Quepos 2011

I noticed nobody's posted since last year. Although Quepos is never going to be SJ or Jaco, the action has picked up considerably. Been there many many times in 13 years. 6x since December. Alot more action now, maybe 20 or more of them at peak, mainly after 6-7 pm at bar LaPescadora (great cheeseburger) , across from Best Western, and some next door at bar Wacky Wanda's but they go back and forth. A mix of Dominicans, Nica's and out of town, mostly, Tica's, a few 7's, an ocasional 8 or 9, still alot better than years gone by. I found a hot, slim, decent english speaking semi-pro Tica there in Dec and I'm still with her. To be safe, if you have a regular in SJ, or if you find one in SJ that'll go with you and you like her, do that, but non-regulars can be hard, are expensive, and it often backfires-they can turn into bitches real easy after they're there a day. I've done it 10 times until I had enough regulars for company (In CR, always have a back-up plan). Make sure you negotiate a per diem pay rate, not all at once, and let them know if they start getting headaches or miss their kids or whatever, they're going back on the bus-not the shuttle or taxi-the bus. Ticas are used to the bus. And don't forget, if she's not a regular you've been with a number of times, it's hard to spend day and night and living quarters with someone you hardly know. And one more thing, they don't add in the fact that you are wining and dining them, etc-that doesn't factor in to their equation.
