Thank you for your post Dodger B. Amazing stuff, eh? Local Guatemalans are suspicious of American tourists due to incidents of baby stealing and murders for the purpose of organ harvesting! Incredible.

I love the part where the US Dept of State warns all US citizens to:

"avoid gatherings of agitated people." (lol)

Thanks for the tips guys! Sharp as bowling balls they are! I'm going to go out on a ledge here and say that it probably wouldn't be a bad idea for an American citizen to avoid gatherings of agitated people in just about every corner of the globe!

Thanks though for the information D.B.

Dan D. Dick - nice report on the GUA scene for a first timer!

    cheers all............

    GUA Virgin-no-More

A few coimments from a 1st time visitor to Guatemala City.

The Marriott is not up to par with other Marriotts. Unfortunate for us Platinum guys but that's the way it is. Location is fine but the beds are the older style that are way to hard; the linen should be replaced & the concierge room is fairly usesless on weekends. And there's a booming baby business at the hotel.

Bottom line - GUA is overpriced compared to other L.A. destinations IMO. Yes I know I get hit a little for the gingo tax because I'm so obvious & my spanish is so poor. Certainly others could do better & I would do better if I were to be there awhile. A basic one hour romp at a local MP with all the frills is four times higher than in many other countries. Any way you cut it, 500Q for an hour is expensive compared to Ecuador ($7-15+), Costa Rica (10,000 C or $20) & many parts of Mexico (Monterrey). Granted it's for a full hour but still...

The MPs are pretty difficult to find. I've attached some newspaper ads with addresses & phone numbers to help anyone who's headed there in the near future.

As to the girls....now that I've had Guatemalan I have to say I enjoyed it. For the most part looking through WASP-colored glasses, the local gals are a little heavy on the hoof, coarser looking & tend not to take advantage of what make-up can offer. Yes there are a few local stunners but percentage-wise they're few & far between. My experience with the local gals was that just about anything was available with enthusiasm for a modest propina. I enjoyed myself but those with high expectations would likely not be happy.

The strip clubs with service (like Le Club) are very nice and very expensive by L.A. standards. Again, I had a great time with a little Nica & I have no regrets. But it's not the kind of place where I could afford to go every night. By the time I paid the cab fare (50 Q after dark) my drinks, a few drinks for her, a tip for the towel gal and a decent propina for her I was down nearly $200US. Had a good time & it wasn't real quick but still..... Okay, take away the gringo tax, the over-tipping and ladies drinks (do you really want to take away the ladies drinks???) & you're still going to be down a decent chunk of change.

With respect to Zone 1 & 2 - I had zero problems and wouldn't hesitate to walk the area again (in the daylight). Note that taxiis become relatively rare.

I've included a business card for a local cab driver who speaks very good English & seems to be a genuinely nice guy.

Bottom line - I had a good time, I could live there if necessary & I'll likely go back at some time. But as DB said, it's a poor location if your primary focus is to monger.

BTW - new airport open a week now (very nice, not quite complete). Remember to keep 20Q for your departure tax to be paid just before passport control.

    Baby Stealing In Guatemala

On June 15 I discussed how Americans can be suspected of baby stealing in Guatemala, and precautions that you should take (see post 357 on this thread.

Today I received this official warning from the American Embassy in Guatemala.

As with most government warnings, it tends to be sensationalized. But do take care not to arouse any suspicion.

    DB

    Dear American Citizen:

The following is a warden message concerning rumors of child stealing. Please contact the American Citizen Services section via e-mail (amcitsguatemala@state.gov), fax (2326-4655), or telephone (2326-4405) if you have any questions.

Particularly virulent rumors of child stealing and of murder for organ harvesting have recently surfaced in two separate areas of Guatemala frequented by American tourists. On June 15, 2007, a Guatemalan child from Camotan, Chiquimula (near the border with Honduras, on the main road leading from Guatemala to the Copan Mayan ruins) was found dead and mutilated. Three local women who allegedly acted as go-betweens for foreign adoptions were accused by a mob of kidnapping and killing the girl. One of these women was killed by the mob and the other two were severely injured. Locals burned a police car in nearby Jocotan, and forced the police out of Jocotan and Camotan.

Since late May 2007, rumors have been circulating in the El Golfete area of the Rio Dulce near Livingston, Izabal of babies being stolen from neighboring villages by armed men. Local authorities did respond to villagers' reports, but were not able to confirm any such cases. Despite that response, residents of small villages in the area remain mobilized and suspicious of all outsiders, including foreigners.

Another incident in Cunen, Quiche resulted in a local riot with travel on the road from Cunen to Santa Maria Nebaj temporarily interrupted while the PNC re-establishes control. Americans are advised to exercise caution in these areas.

Rumors of child stealing have resulted in the lynching deaths of several Guatemalan citizens this year. Although no foreigners have been reported to be the victim of such attacks recently, Americans are reminded to avoid gatherings of agitated people. Avoid close contact with children, including taking photographs, especially in rural areas. Such contact can be viewed with deep alarm and may provoke panic and violence.

Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's web site at http://travel.state.gov where the current Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, Travel Warnings and Public Announcements can be found. The U.S. Embassy in Guatemala City can be reached at (502) 2326-4405 and is located at Avenida Reforma 7-01, Zone 10. The after-hours telephone for American citizen emergencies is (502)2331-2354.

yes, i have had 15q beer at mediteranee. just ask for it. it is the off brand, brahma. they may have a cheap rum for that price also.

sorry for delay. i am in tegucigalpa, honduras and have been shacked up with a local hottie for the last 48 hours. myspace, love it. sure, this is not the honduras forum but i will offer some quick thoughts before i answer the questions above. i started out monday night at a place called karafurana or something like that. it is directly across from el patio restaurant on blvd morazan. open til 2am, $3 equivalent cover and beers are about $1. 50. 4 dancers, 2 extremely hot and 2 that would have been hot enough had i not seen the first two. all exceptionally thin and toned. the quality of the girls was extremely surprising considering the quality of the bar. normally there is a corrolation. problem is that it's not nude, bikinis only, and the girls apparently are not for sale. so i proceeded to ilusiones, now called divas, by the airport. nasty, nasty, nasty. the bathroom reeked of [CodeWord109], but at least it was a temporary haven from the girls! i left after one beer and asked the taxi driver to take me back to the first place. i was one of the last to leave, and noticed that all the girls were driven away in the same van. maybe to prevent the bar from losing their talent to prowlers like me. several of them called at me, but i just laughed and walked away. i am sure it's a good place to develop an off site relationship. anyways, the taxi driver told me that friday and saturday nights the flacitas come out to play at divas, but i am sufficiently traumatized not to try my luck again for a long time. also checked out a place called tourist club on the way. the dj from divas was sharing the cab with me and went in with me to assist in the search, but to no avail. tegus sucks. and i say that with firm conviction despite dbs wise words. thank god for regular girls here.

ok, yes, the le palace i refer to is in guate. it is one block away from country club on the same street. i don't know the exact address because i got drunk both times and forgot to ask. it is off roosevelt, heading toward tikalfutura away from zona viva. near trebol. sorry, i know that's convaluted but best i can do at the moment. i owe you a better answer.

i asked about the 15q beers at mediteranee and got a similar response, only they quoted me 20q. but yes, brahva only for beer. not my favorite, but worth paying almost half. thanks much for the info.

finally, you are 100 percent correct about not writing places off. i don't realy, although i guess i could be more clear in my assessments on this forum. i never look for a harem of gorgeous models. that would of course be dumb in this business. that's why one or two is good enough for me, and why i continue to make runs into men's, venus, etc. bc yes, the girls change all the time. that's a good thing in my opinion.

If you like Le Club, and would like to save about 40%, I would recommend Le Palace. Upsides: 25Q for a beer, compared to 40-45Q; 400Q servicio, compared to 600Q. If you do the chica drink thing, 60Q compared to 90Q. Downside is, I guess, the area. Zona 11 if I am not mistaken. But I felt plenty safe with lots of security. Then again, I can be a bit more "adventurous" than most. But Le Palace has all the works that Le Club has: insanely attentive waiters, long catwalk stage for dancers, comfortable sofas, and a small contingent of cute girls (aside from Mediteranee, I have never found a high percentage of girls that would ever interest me; Le Club just gets a volume discount). But 2-3 hot girls at one locale is enough to satisfy me. One block down from Le Palace is Country Club.
I know where Roosevelt and Trebol are. If he is not talking about Guatemala City, then I am truely confused and fucked up!

    Aimless Musings on Guatemala

Not likely, G And T, as I live back in the States now. Too bad you didn't let me know when I went to Guatemala for a week in May, as I would have been happy to meet you.

I have no idea when (or if) I will return. But if Spirit keeps running those bargain fares, the odds are definitely better that I'll go back.

I enjoyed reading your take on Guate, and am glad that you mentioned more clubs in other Zonas. I know that there is a whole hell of a lot more out there than has ever been reported on this board.

It is interesting that we sought the same thing, but in completely different ways. In order to get the chicas' attention so that you could interest them in seeing you outside the club you bought them drinks, and did not like to pay for servicio.

I always passed on the drinks and would pay for one session in the club, so that they would get to know me intimately and build the trust to see me on the outside.

You would ask them out to lunch, and avoid Sundays. I worked during the day and could never have done lunch, but I often had one over to my home on a Sunday.

I found that very few of them had anything better to do. Their families were far away in Nicaragua or Honduras, and they were sick of seeing the same girls they worked with every night and hung with all week in the dormitorio.

They would jump at the chance to get out of there and come spend the day at my place. Especially when I offered to cook them dinner.

Also, while you state that you pretty much stuck to one girl in a club for fear of being labeled a player, I found that doing that was counterproductive. When a chica thought she "owned" me, she would begin to take me for granted, stand me up, and let me down a lot more often.

When she saw one her friends come home with me (or go upstairs in the club for servicio), it definitely seemed to increase the incentive to become the "chosen one" for the next weekend. I imagine that it was a competition thing, and that one would lord it over the other that she had now won my attention.

It just goes to show that we can take completely different approaches and still be effective. There is not just one way to play the game.

I caution anyone about drawing firm conclusions about the talent level at any given club based on what they see at any given moment. Talent comes and talent goes, and the level of quality is very fluid.

In May my friend Fantasy was disgusted with what he saw at Paradiso, to the point that he struck it from an updated map that he created. I agree with him that there was no one worth doing at the time, but that won't always be the case.

I don't doubt your statement that Cats sucked when you went there, as I have seen it suck, too. But I will as tell you that in October '05, it had the highest quality of talent of any club in Guatemala. None other was even close.

But do be aware that one of the managers at Cats is a total prick. He once told a girl not to have servicio with me; since I hadn't bought enough drinks (he doesn't make a commission off servicio). And she complied!

So I grabbed the very next one who walked by and hustled her upstairs. Lucky for me, she turned out to be the blowjob queen of all of Guatemala!

The talent level of the various clubs goes down as girls leave to return home, then rises when there is a new influx of chicas.

What happens is that a manager from a club goes on a recruiting trip and stops in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Honduras, to scoop up the best girls he can find. With promises of untold riches awaiting them if they come work for him, he convinces them to hop on a bus to Guatemala and live in the club's dormitorio.

So there will be an infusion of hot girls all at once. A few are depressed and head home within a week. The majority will stay for 3-4 months or until the next major holiday comes along before they go home. Only a select few thrive and make it for the long term, occasionally going back to see their families but returning over and over again to work in Guate.

Le Club is probably the only place that consistently has top quality. The other clubs can fluctuate wildly.

I once wrote off Capricho's as a vast wasteland and only went back six months later when I hosted an out-of-towner who insisted that we do so. I was shocked when I returned to find that it was now packed with gorgeous chicas!

So if you read here that someone says that Platino's or Cats of Paradiso or Men's Club is worthless, keep in mind that they are probably correct, but only for the week they visited. It can and will change.

You describe a negative experience at Venus, but I pulled two of my top three GFEs from there. One of them still emails me on a regular basis. And hell no, I don't send her any money.

Not that she hasn't asked for it every now and then...

Any of the mainstream clubs just might have the best talent during the particular week that a monger makes is visit to Guatemala. So I encourage everyone to check them all out!

Here are some of my favorite spots to crash or grab a bite.

    In zona 1
Hotel Fenix 7 Ave. 15-81 (phone 251-6625) is only Q50 for two people.
Hotel Colonial 7 ave. 14-19 is nice for Q140 for the nice rooms w/ priv bath

    In zone 10
Hotel y Restaurante Los Proceres 16 calle 2-40 (phone 363-0746) is safe and convenient. internet cafe in lobby w/ newpapers too. rooms are about Q300 if i remember. this place takes credit cards too.

Hotel Mayastic 5 ave 11-23 (phone 331-0824) is close to zona 10 nightlife. has deck with view. was about Q200 last visit.

The best place to eat is 'Del Tingo Al Tango' 12 calle 4-05 in zone 9. They have imported argentinian beef. This place is a great steakhouse. The Delmonico is Q100.

Yes, Tre Fratelli is where the wealthy Ladinas hangout.

They are not going to be impressed by any gringo's money short of Bill Gates. The wealthy in Guatemala can buy and sell Americans 100 times over.

It's worth a visit just to check them out. They sure do like nice!

    re: Tre Fratelli

    Hey DB

Is that the Italian place right around the corner from the InterContinental?
Out-door tables? If so, I was there the night of a Olga Tanon concert...
P.R. singer who was singing at the Camino Real.
1-2 hours prior to the concert, the place was packed with local females.
$$$ professional women or from wealthy families, but they were getting trashed at the bar, and looked very hot. Spoke with a couple at the bar, but no chances as they had tickets for the show, and never saw them again.
But I know Friday nights are full.

Another place I am fond of, but is hit & miss with the presence of chicas, is the place about 3 blocks down from the I.C., called "El Establo", owned by a couple of german guys.

Also some cool bars in Zona 4....1/2 the price as zona 10, and wall to wall on Friday & Saturdays. All kinds of different bars/different music.
Locals tell me "zona 4 is what zona 10 was like 5 years ago. Cheap and lots of action."
