I am just getting caught up on the forum (too much work lately) and Artistyp I can't believe you made a trip back to Guate and didn't let me know. I was looking forward to hanging with you again and visiting some of those low end joints you enjoy so much. I think I may have been in Nicaragua when you were here so it may be a moot point anyway. Rey Sol restaurant on calle 11 just west of la sexta has a good vegetarian buffet from noon till 4:00 if you get tired of Los Cebollines and the pizza joints.

I ate at Rey Sol a few times. The food was great. Los cebollines had the best salsa I have ever tasted. They make it fresh upon your request. Hands down my favorite restaurant in zona 1.

I toured around GT recently and spent a couple nights in the capital. The beds at Hotel Spring weren't firm enough to suit my old back so I tried the Hotel Exel a few blocks closer to the bus stations. Good firm beds, clean, hot water, cable, fast wi-fi, no problem discretely entertaining guests, BUT bring your earplugs as there is a lot of street noise.

Rey Sol restaurant on calle 11 just west of la sexta has a good vegetarian buffet from noon till 4:00 if you get tired of Los Cebollines and the pizza joints. My evening entertainment is often a litro of Gallo / Cabro on the veranda outside my room with the laptop so I didn't miss the lack of clubs downtown after dark. There are a fair number of street girls in this area so thats an option as well.

La Linea was truly amazing from a voyeuristic sense. A couple hundred tin railroad shacks / cubicles with something of the female persuasion in each of them. Q35 will get you 15 minutes of quick mechanical service. It takes me longer to say Hello, so not a good personal fit but if you're young and in a hurry to bust a nut bone up on your bargaining skills and watch the Tijuana street girl cartoon to get a feel for the vibe.

Q300 for an unrushed hour at my hotel. Not young, not firm, but lovely, clean, and an excellent worker. Someone I would have been proud to be seen with in a restaurant or club. At my age skill is more important than eye candy but as always YMMV.

Back from my second trip since December. Before reading this please refer to my older reports so you can have a better understanding of what I am talking about.

I cut my trip short to 2 weeks versus a month. As I sit here back in sex prison I believe I made the right choice. My time was spent mainly in guatemala city.

Why did I come back early?

As previously mentioned I was pretty much stuck in guatemala city. Even with pocket cameras my weight load didn't go down that much. Another obstacle was securing electronic equipment and leaving behind valuables at the hotel when I traveled. Did I mention a medication I bring needs refrigeration? I envy you guys who are flexible. I can't seem to get that down. I am more of a day tripper.

I was talked out of doing a trip to tecun uman via guatemala. A missionary recommended I base myself in a decent hotel in tapachula mexico and do TU as a day trip. It is located 30 minutes from tapachula. The reason is there are several hotels that are used for guys waiting to cross illegally "polleros / poy yair rose". I did locate a decent review for a hotel called " hotel don jose". From what I know it is a very tiny town so just ask for it. Be careful you don't wind up in the wrong hotel.

Towards the end of my trip the afternoon rains started coming in from 3pm until 6pm. Remember from my last reports I mentioned that the city shuts down at 8pm. There are some bars open but most are lucky to have a handful of people.

My final days were scheduled between 11am until 3pm. Afterwards I would sneak out to dinner and that would be it. Beer drinkers have a few choices but don't get too excited. The vibe is livelier in a graveyard.

If I wasn't going around the country staying a month in guatemala would have been very tedious. As it is I was only gone for two weeks but it felt like a lot longer.

I did however enjoy the time I had! I had all sorts of photography projects that took me all over the city. It was extremely fun to walk around with pocket cameras. I didn't miss a beat.

Observations:

La Linea had a shabbly line up. Another monger I met described it as "gross". Personally I stuck with 2 girls I knew from my last trip. They were on BBBJ patrol. Otherwise I noticed a lot of the doable ones were not around. I believe the Christmas season had a lot to do with it. Depending on tastes you could say there are maybe a handful of woman that would be useful to anyone here. And this is coming from artisttyp!

* Be careful if you go on sundays. There are no cops around and the possibility of getting jacked is extremely high.

I did a few sessions in those local s only strip clubs :

Pricing was a little different in each place. Most do 100Q for 15/20 minutes but at diamante club in mercado el guarda / trebol* I was quoted 120Q for 30 minutes. You give the money to the girl and she receives a ticket at the bar then you two walk upstairs.

I had a very good session with a nica at diamante club. I had a not so great sesssion at another one. These places were getting annoying to me. The music is extremely loud and there are waiters buzzing around everywhere. Girls will pretty much wait until you approach them. The proper way to do it is buy them a beer then discuss going to the room. I personally don't ficha fuck so I just said I was there for sex. When you go that route it will be hit or miss. You will have a short amount of time to talk to them before you go upstairs.

After a few attempts I was turned off to even trying. I am not a huge drinker. Wasn't worth my effort. The places around mercado el guarda were the most lively. Even in the day time. After going to the bars around campo de roodville (roosevelt) a few times I came to the conclusion that they were a graveyard. The one of the corner of 9a and san juan seemed to have better choices than the other places. There were only a handful of people there at 6pm when I would go.

I did do a pensiones girl for the first time in the mercado el guarda area. I felt better about using the ground floor hotels versus going upstairs into who knows what kind of situation. Be very careful here. It's about as gritty as it gets in guate. When it gets dark there are all sorts of unsavory characters lurking on the corners. The talent is of the low end SW kind but of course YMMV. Pricing is very similar to la linea depending on the girl and services. I did the standard 100Q for 30 minutes with BBBJ. That comes out to $13. Kudos to those of you who can do better.

I really liked the vibe at casa 13 calle A 10-57 zona 1. This is on civid's list. The vibe is very mellow. A very friendly madam opens the door and you sit in the waiting room. Then she present the girls to you. I paid 200Q for 30 minutes in very clean and comfortable surrounding. The girls in general are not beautiful but I found at least 3 doable. They do a pretty good job of pleasing the customer. I don't think bbbjs are offered here. I hope someone proves me wrong. The overall vibe here seems too formal for that. Please let us know otherwise if you go.

That was pretty much it with the girls for me. My consensus is that I still recommend guatemala city for budget mongering. I would have been here years ago if I had known about about it. After doing it for a total of 5 weeks since December it became tedious and uninteresting. The inability to see a movie or eat dinner past 8pm was extremely oppressing to me. Luckily I had an ipad and a good wifi signal.

If you stay in zona 10 you will have more food options until around 10pm. Personally I don't think that alone is worth staying there. You might as well be staying at an airport hotel in miami. The few bars in zona viva IMHO are worthless. You can stay at hotel royal palace in zona 1 and still be pampered with access to the real guatemala. Save your marriot points for another trip....just IMHO.

Corrections :

1. In my December trip report I mentioned an avenue called "martin" in zona 2/6. It is actually "marti" with an accent above the I to make it sound like "martee". It can sound like "marteen" depending who says it. Thank you "hor hay" for bringing that to my attention.

2. Campo de roosevelt in my opinion is better pronounced " Rood bill"/"roodville". It is roosevelt but for two trips now nobody I met pronounced it with the "evelt" sound. Maybe I just had a brain fart with it. Who knows.

I stand by the rest of the information I previously posted.

Next stop? I'd love to go back to Argentina but I think it's out of my budget at the moment. Does anybody think differently? Cali Colombia in August and maybe back to Tijuana in may or June. Anybody have any idea for me may / June? I have a month.

As some of you know I am an avid photographer. I go into barrios and other off beat places. Today I was pointed out to the police by a couple who saw me taking photos. I have the proper documents and I explained my intentions to the officers in spanish. No problems. However at one point they asked me to see my camera and some of the photos I took. Luckily I didn't have any smut photos. I don't things would have gone as well.

Riddle me this " what would have happened if they saw beaver shots?"

Sorry but I'm not into the smut photography thing. Kudos to guys who do it but I'd rather focus on other subject matters. Plus negotiating for photos on top of special services kills the mood for me.

Not to mention my arm was covered in blood from tripping over something while taking photos.

Yes absolutely prices can be as low as 35 quetzals. Normally that is for a standard session. Oral and posiciones. When you start asking for special services prices are all over the place. Usually 70-100 quetzals for 30 minutes is sufficient. I liked especially this girl's look and her slutty make up. It also was my first nut. I figured for an extra 50Q why argue. Everything was agreed upon before hand. I always negotiate before. When I put the money on the table she took out a special marker to check if my bills were counterfeit. I should have known then. Main issue is she used to work in the tourist zone. I should have ran when she told me. Oh well. I went with another girl and got what I wanted for 70Q. Live and learn.

Also worth mentioning is we were here during Christmas season. At first glance it seems if some
girls have disappeared. Don't know for sure.

Artisttyp, I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. Last November, I was quoted 35Q for 15 min. I'm curious why you had more than about 70Q on the table. Also, for someone with your experience, I'm surprised you did not come to an agreement before showing money. I expect to be following in your footsteps at the end of next month. Do you have any comments about making a selection at La Linea or avoiding problems there? Here is a picture of Erica from Nicaragua. She works at La Linea not too far in from 10a Calle. She will not steal your money, and she will take all her clothes off, but she will not give you a BBBJ. Good luck and keep us posted.

I arrived last night on a grueling flight from NYC. I seriously don't know if I have the strength to do trips like that anymore. Sooner or later I need to move up the monger food chain and do all inclusives. Just a thought going through my mind lately.

Budget mongering is getting harder and harder for me with plane travel inflated prices etc. Maybe I should do plush trips to Costa Rica or the DR. Time to graduate?

Guys, next time you're in town and want to have a great night, stop by Le Club (or any other place of your choice) and go to Autohotel Omni. Best experience ever!

I met this gorgeous brunette at Le Club. After a bit of chitchat, I decided to go somewhere a bit more private. I didn't want to take her back to my hotel so my wingman, a friend from Guatemala, told me that the safest place to go to was a love hotel called Autohotel Omni. Even though it was a bit far from where the club is located, I decided to listen to his advice (you know the saying: when in Rome. Bla bla bla).

Once we arrived, I was surprised to see the sheer size of the place. There are lots of rooms with different prices and styles to choose from. We ended up taking one of the most expensive ones.

I must confess that I was pleasantly surprised with the place. It was nicely decorated, extremely clean, and the 24/7 security made me feel more at ease (if you've ever been to Guatemala, then you know why this is important). The room was equipped with a jacuzzi, a steam room, a huge shower, and a water bed (frankly, Q. 250. 00 seemed to me like a very good deal.)

What can I say. Even though Amanda didn't need any of this to get me in the mood, it made my night all the more pleasant. And, after all, what do we do all this for if not for pleasure? Hope this helps.

Can anyone tell me if narcotic painkillers are generally available without prescription in Guatemalan pharmacies?

I asked about prices for xanax at one pharmacy and was immediately told " by prescription only ". From what I saw guatemala city is not a drug friendly place.

An idea would be to show them a prescription container with a few pills already in it " Do you have these? Yes I have the prescription it's written on the bottle. That is how prescriptions are usually written in america" That works very well in most countries.

Another idea is just go to a legit doctor for a consultation with the same story but add a different twist to it " I am traveling around south america for a year and ran out of THESE would you mind re filling a script for me?"
