We read the forum but there is always a chance for a different point of view from another monger. You gather ALL the intel from *different perspectives then make your decision.

Been there twice. Billyb, All I ever here about Leon is that there is nothing to do there. I've been all over Nica, but not there. Is it worth the effort?

Ever notice how many people new to Managua request info on places they can stay within walking distance? Doesn't anyone ever read any of the prior posts? Even after they are told buy 3 different people that it isn't safe and the taxis are so cheap, they insist on the same question. It may not happen to you, but unless you are ready to defend your life, I suggest not walking anywhere in Managua. I have been in that position and I do not wish it on anyone. I have always scored my best info from cab drivers. Imagine for a dollar the wealth of information you have at your fingertips, and then they take you there! Could it be any eisier? Public Transportation, Thats a good one, LOL. Just relax and don't worry my Friend there are a lot of good people there who are willing to help a gringo have a good time, for a price. Haha wish I could join you!

It is Montelimar. Not Montepillar.
Actually, Managua has the lowest crime rate of all the capitals in Central America. I have lived there for several years, and worked in Managua for 15 years. I have never been robbed, nor ever had any problems. However. Just simply do not walk places at night. Managua is spread out. Granted MetroCentro is "kind of" a downtown, but really it is not. From the InterContinental it is safe to walk to Diamond Club (see its website) , however, walking anywhere else is just tempting fate. Taxis are cheap, use them.
Managua is not a crime infested city. It is as safe as any city of 1, 000, 000+ anywhere in the world. It is just a dump! It can be a hell of a lot of fun, and quite an adventure. Just don't walk places.
The street girls between the Esso and the Texaco MetroCentro are perfectly safe. As are the street girls maybe 100 meters south of the Hilton on Carretera Masaya. Just use some common sense with street girls.
Fenix and Good Times are only 5 minutes from MetroCentro by taxi. Diamond Club is across the street. The tiny little casas de citas are in the barrios all over the city. You will never find them unless you ask a cab driver.

You seem to know a lot about the layout of the city. Can you recommend an area to stay that one is close enough to venture out "on foot" and find a mall shopping / lively area instead of feeling trapped by needing a car? Again I am considering safety and distance to be two entirely different issues.
Thanks
* Any other options near the contempo for less than $60 ?

The intercontinental is ground zero for the s-clubs and a few discos and a mall, still you will need a taxi for even the closest places since they are cheap its well worth it, only pay 40 cordoba max for short hops and 50-60 for long, long means another barrio 5-10 min away, never pay 10 dollars, that is what hotel taxis all ask for. 5 dollars is 120 cordoba or so. You will end up wanting to go so many places so my advice is stay at contempo for 60 a night which is a 4 star place and use the savings on there 7 dollar exclusive shuttle to venture out in at night, contempo is high luxury and close to the best mall, santo domingo gallerias. Also they speak english. Intercontinental is around 100 and their taxis charge $10 min. If I'm still here we can go to leon and or montepillar which is pretty awesome.

OMG the us embassy makes Managua sound like the scariest most dangerous place on earth. The internet makes it seem like everyone is guaranteed to get robbed and. Or stabbed, epecially mongerers. I take it street chicas are not a safe option like in asia? Taxi it to brothels and mp's? It's quite confusing info on the net.
Also, anyone know if there is action by the intercontinental hotel? Or what about www.vivaguesthouse.com?

Going to be trying Managua for my first time in a couple of weeks. I've heard it is dangerous though. Any recommendations and where to find girls during the day and night where safety is not a huge concern? I'm also hoping to find a nice hotel that is walking distance to the action (I'm not one to bring girls back to my room so am hoping there are ST rooms like in Thailand.).
Bbilly! If you're still going to be around, let's hang!
