Flew in a few weeks ago planning to do some scuba diving. Met a local at Chaman at11 pm. Danced until 6 am. Got some greasy burger outside. Headed back to Holiday Inn Select. Great time! Maid insisted at the door at 8 am. Apparently I opened the door with nothing on. Oops.

Everyone had to weigh in). Cut island trip short and headed back. Went directly to Barcelo Montelimar and spent three days there. Took ATVs and went to deserted beach. Did the nasty on a totally deserted beach with sun setting. She did not say no once. Averaged 8 times/day! Broke my previous 7 polvos/day record. We spent 80% of the time busy and didn't get to see much of Managua. No mercado, ometepe, lago or volcanos. Oh well, I'll have to go back.

With all due respect I would love to see you give out some basic info. Your name is all over the nica board but Ive gotten very little information from your posts. Have you ever though about doing a "beginners guide to nicaragua" ? It would include best seasons to visit hotels different neighborhoods cab fares etc. The information would be priceless.

I have been on isg for a few years and nobody has really nailed nicaragua. Look at the thailand thread(bangkok) or routard's san marteen(dutch side) guide for ideas.

Alot of members would really appreciate it.

I'm looking for a new $40 hotel myself (I usually stay with friends, but not when accompanied). Hotel D'Lido in Altagracia (Centro Toyota 2 1/2 cuadras al sur. Tel: 266 8965) is clean, decent and has a pool, and the night porter has shown a drunken woman to my room at 2am. Owners polite, but lack charm. Was $35 a couple of years ago.

Taxi rides around town are from 25-80 cordobas depending on distance (Managua's a sprawling town). Always a good idea to ask for a price in cordobas rather than dollars.

As for P4P, ask the expert (if he can spare a minute from his olympian feats of fornication). Fascinated as I am by it, it's not my scene.

I just came back from a great month in lima(see lima thread). I met another ISG member who got me interested in nicaragua. It sounds like I might be into it. I have been to el salvador twice. I enjoyed being the lone gringo.

I have researched nicaragua before but I need some basic info...please.

1. I was told there is alot of SW action in and around the casinos in the el centro area. Is this true and what have other members experiences been? Is the SW scene workable? I would not recommend SWs for lima. Medellin is great for SWs..what about managua?


*2. Hotels- All I could find online was hotels for $70 or more. The same was true for medellin colombia but when I arrived I found a hotel for $40 a night in the centro. It included a mini bar and safe.

Would I be able to find similar hotel options for $40 and under in managua and would they at least include a minibar or access to one in the hotel lobby? What part of town would I look at? I can handle sketchy areas of town but I need a clean room with sheets that I would actually sleep in...no roaches or mice.

3. I am thinking of going in early june. Will I be rained out of outdoor activities?

4. I assume managua is a taxi only town..meaning you cant walk it. What is the average cost of a one way taxi ride and what part of town would be the most strategic place to stay?
