BTW, some of you Thai punters might start caring and paying attention to these things. Looks like our conversation has touched a nerve with some folk who are happy to chat about all sorts of non P4P [Deleted by Admin]. My advice to these sensitive souls, take a deep breath try to calm down or simply use the ignore button.

OK, do the debates matter? Its complicated but I feel they do. Question is to what extent. Agreed Trump lost the debates on nationwide polling but don't forget he also lost the popular vote by 3 million. But where it mattered in states such as Florida Pennsylvania Michigan and Ohio where he won by small margins I feel that what he represented during the debates and his overarching message of demonizing immigrants got him elected. On a historical note it is now commonly accepted Nixon lost to Kennedy because of the sweating 5 o'clock shadow visual he portrayed on TV.

Your other point on Trump's trade war affecting the P4P scene in Thailand, that's a stretch ET.

I totally agree. Add long-winded boring posts about people's personal taste in girls, and the way it was 20 years ago and how Nat was better than Nit. There is very little information to help newbies anymore and that's sad. And then when you add all the snide comments about President Trump, it's ridiculous. Especially when 90% of the stuff is based on press reports which are totally worthless. And top it off when you make a factual report, you got all sorts of experts questioning it, probably guys that don't even live here or haven't been here in 10 years.

But to follow up on your post, I personally think that any political discussions should be banned. It's just an excuse for some Euros to bash the US anyway.

Strongly agree with you Natty. Especially about the USA Election. Many posters here are not American and don't care about it. The vitriol from both the Trumpers and socialistas is completely out of hand. I'm hoping these forums will be an escape from that stuff.

One thing I am in no doubt of he is still running Trump Incorporated as dumb and dumber couldn't organize an orgy in Nana.

It's almost impossible to imagine Americans would want 4 more years of a narcissistic deranged demigod but the odds on him being reelected are actually 50/50.

This is mostly down I believe to the continuation of the good economy he inherited and his heightening fear and loathing of immigrants and minorities among most of his base (Smoothy being an exception) that gives them an excuse for their sad unhappy lives. .

It's also a reflection of the lack of a Democrat who broad popular appeal.

About five years before he became president, Trump took out hundreds of millions of dollars in variable rate loans from the only bank on Earth that would lend him a penny due to his many business failures and deadbeat history of not paying back loans, Deutsche Bank. That means when Powell raises the Fed Funds Rate, his loan liability goes up and he has to pay millions more but when Powell lowers the rate his loan liability goes down and he saves millions. Where America has put itself in a real bind with Trump in this regard is the Fed (Powell) raises rates when the economy is doing well and lowers them when the economy is behaving poorly and needs a boost.

Powell is Trump's enemy whenever he appears to be ready to raise the Fed Funds Rate a tad. And he is apt to do that if or when the USA economy looks like it is steadily improving.

Connecting the dots here isn't exactly rocket science. Well, maybe it is to Trump supporters.

The challenge Trump faces every day is what kind of counterproductive legislation proposal, idiotic trade war move, ignorant tariff assertion or whimsical silly statement can he make this hour of this day that could drive down the USA economy, cause Powell to lower the Fed Funds Rate and thereby save him millions of dollars on those huge loans of he took out a few years back.

How his doing that might effect his chances of re-election is somewhat irrelevant. He has never been interested in expanding his support beyond his base and his base is not going anywhere. They have apparently begun to love out of control skyrocketing deficits and taken a genuine liking to underperformance vs Obama on virtually every important economic and policy metric they used to enjoy slamming Obama over; jobs creation, stock market gains, housing value gains, manufacturing sector expansion, trade and corporate profits, border control, foreign relations, national security, etc.

The Donald is smart enough to know using the red meat of fearing immigrants to rally his base is not going to be enough to get him reelected. He is smart enough to know it requires a continuation of the good economy he inherited to get him another 4 years. Mnuchin and Kudlow have most likely told him there are storm clouds on the horizon. Because he notoriously hates getting bad news I can picture a scene when as soon as they mentioned this to him they ran out of the room. So he is already preparing to find a boogey man to blame for the negative consequences of his trade wars in the form of Fed chair Powell. "Koch Land"

Check out the new book, "Koch Land" by Christopher Leonard. Koch's are not fans of Fat Nixon, mostly on ideological grounds. Still, they are getting over 90% of their economic just desserts.

Explaining his cave on initiating those tariffs, in the course of one minute he suggested he did not want to make it tough for American consumers during the Christmas season AND repeated a favorite lie about how great it is that the $60 Billion added to America's coffers from the tariff taxes so far was put there by China and not the American consumer.

    Huh?

B-B-But if China is the one paying the tariff taxes instead of American consumers, wouldn't it be a wonderful Christmas gift FOR Americans to initiate those tariffs ASAP? Hey, I'd be happy with another $60 Billion added to America's coffers by China. Why not? Unless, oh no, it turns out that isn't how it would get there after all.

    My Two Cents

Over 15 trillion in negative yielding bonds, an inverted yield curve and record low thirty years. It has to signify something.

Even Trump is getting the wind up and backing down on the scale of tariffs on Chinese imports under the laughable guise of not wanting to be the grinch that spoiled Christmas.

What's all this got to with the price of a shag? Nothing I guess but who knows.

My gut tells me while those at the high end are still doing fine it's getting tougher for most girls to make a living.

A recent visit to Cowboy makes me feel business is way down.

As we know the normal supply and demand principle affecting price doesn't necessarily follow in Thailand's P4P.

    Quite the opposite.

Fewer punters, no problem, increase margins by jacking up the prices.

Well maybe not going to work this time.

IMHO he is a very bad man although I admit that he is also a very shrewd master politician. The fanatical left wing group think insanity that we see among all the Democratic politicians running for President in America today owe a lot to President Obama's successful tactic of divide and conquer along racial & ethnic lines, although none of them measure up to his political abilities.
Surely you are not suggesting that the only spectacular recovery from the three Great Republican Depressions/Recessions cited on that chart (1933,1982 and 2009), the one stewarded by FDR and his overwhelmingly Dem Majority House and Senate beginning in 1933 (the other two are not even significantly different from each other by comparison), should have been the model Obama followed for his recovery from a Great Republican Depression/Recession.

Good lord. FDR was gifted by the 1932 electorate with a huge Dem Majority in the House and at one point as many as 75 actual Dems in the Senate out of a possible 96 Senate seats beginning in 1933. That was a total turnaround in Party control after 10 years of across the board Republican rule in the federal government bent on driving us into that colossal Depression.

And at that time they had been using the same "brilliant" Republican economic philosophy and agenda they applied in 1981-1982 and 2001-2008, requiring those historic Dem recoveries as well. Oh, and the same ones Trump and his fellow Republicans are applying to the economy right now, BTW.

Obama never had a single hour of a single day as president with 60 real Dems in the Senate, the minimum Senate votes required to produce a cloture vote to even put a proposal and bill on the table for consideration. That being the case and considering the Repubs had decided there was something "different" about this particular middle aged Christian male in the White House (gee, I wonder what that could have been?) that gave them licence with their base to block, thwart and slow-walk his and the Dems every effort to pull us out of it, Obama's recovery from that particular Great Repub Depression/Recession was more impressive than FDR's.

After all, in addition to his massive advantage in having that overwhelming Dem Majority Congress, especially in the Senate, FDR didn't come into office on day one to tackle and recover us from that Great Repub Depression while we were also waging 3 poorly managed quagmire wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and against something amorphous and potentially worldwide by the name of "terror".

You forget that most of the time Obama was dealing with a Republican Congress that basically opposed him on every economic measure he wanted to take. Trump handed out a huge tax break for the rich and it lasted a whole 12 months. Now growth is back to 2% with many indicators pointing to recession. No rational person would think that you should be expanding deficits when employment is high and you are getting sustained growth. This is a guy who sent 6 companies to bankruptcy, defrauded thousands of contractors and consumers and only stayed solvent through tax evasion and money laundering. Trump is toxic, just look at the Staff turnover and what they say about him.
