And best of all, found an airbnb that seems fine with "guests" so will try my luck there.

Seems like there's lots of nice hotels cheap enough that I may try as well in case the airbnb is a bust.

Hotel:

Stay far away from the Camino Real Polanco! They are NOT guest friendly, despite some reports elsewhere on the internet. As you will see later, one of my guests made herself so visible to the front desk that they tried to refuse to allow me to have any more guests. I had actually emailed them 3 months earlier, told them that I was planning to have a different guest each night and asked if that was a problem. They responded that only two guests were allowed "per visit". When the front desk complained about my guest, they claimed that the "visit" meant the entire stay.
