I go to 4/5 star restaurants everyday for lunch. Been doing that for several years. My average for a full meal with tip was around the $25 mark maybe $30 at times. These days my lunches average $35/40 even had some at $50 every now and then. This is for one person mind you. I drink water order an appetizer, main plate, and dessert.

Some places have re arranged portion size and raised prices. I refuse to go back to those places.

Not good times if you are looking for cheap 4/5 star restaurants. Sure you can lowball and do regular food but I am a foodie. I can get regular food anywhere.

$20 at the steak houses is okay, in US it is usually minimum $40-50 for like a lunch special and dinner is much more.

I remember when I was in Tijuana I got lucky or something because I paid only $10 at pampas for all you can eat steakhouse.

It was terrific and I couldn't believe it.

I didn't know the usual price is $20 at pampas.

    Great. Thanks for the info.

I have been to Peru several times so I am familiar with the food. I should really give this place a shot next time I am in the area which is very often.

Pro Tip: Get Ice Cream at Tiempo Nieve next door. They have some really exotic flavors.

I 100% concur with that assessment, they are fantastic. But all the other taco stands I've tried around Zona Norte have been underwhelming and not worth even the $1. 25 or so / taco I paid for them. If you (or anyone else) know of any other taco stands in the area besides the popular HK stand you can let me know.

Not too much a fan of Azul. I do like the newer Senda Norte across the street though.

Went to Al Capone once and thought the food was horrible. There was an aftertaste in my mouth that lasted for several hours. Overall the food came across as very cheaply made and bland. Won't be going back again.
Try the stand on Revolucion and 8th a block over from Ticuan. The one outside the casino, late nights only. Best Birria tacos I've ever had. Perfect consumé. Late nights only though. I usually take chicas there between sessions when doing overnights at Ticuan. I think a lady runs it with her sons.

Taco stands: There are a handful of taco stands around the loop of the zona. Usually on the corners, but not always. There are a handful around the corner after Adelitas. I usually pay $5 (yes, they take USD) for 3 tacos. It's good as fuck, and fast. I'm sure I'm getting ripped off for $5, but I don't care. If I should be paying $4 or $3, let me know though LOL.

Restaraunte Azul: located behind Hong Kong. This is a sit down place, and this is where I recommend eating while you're taking a break. You'll find lots of mongers as well as chicas eating in here. It's more expensive than the street tacos. The posted exchange rate is 19 pesos per dollar if I recall correctly. I ate a ton of food for $12 ish with a large horchata. The main appeal of eating here over the street tacos is that it is kind of quiet in here and you won't be harrassed and solicited like when you're eating on the street. Plus you can check out some of the "off-duty" chicas in the light. When you enter, go up the stairs and ask for a menu.

We usually go here late at night for Caldo de Rez, 95 pesos or $5 in the menu, which is a good soup.

Last week I ordered the same Caldo, but at check out they said it costed 195 peso or $10, and show me a hand made sign with the price. That's a lot for a soup. I won't go here again. If you go, make sure you confirm prices before ordering.

Me I just eat the street tacos from the vendor that now parks on the corner of the Chicago Club. It's like $2 a taco, and I can only eat 2 tacos before I am good to go. At $11, the steakhouses were a bargain. But now, it costs $20+ to eat at the steakhouses and it's not really a bargain anymore, but a treat once in a while. Companies stateside are laying off their workforces not in numbers, but in percentages. That is a big red flag. I wonder how long before Tijuana feels the mass American layoffs, and what will be the effect.

Thank goodness a good meal can be eaten for $10 or less at restaurants within walking distance of the bars.
