If she just wants a smart phone to use for Whatsapp and Facebook, a much later model phone would do the job. For example you could get an unlocked Apple 5 C phone on Ebay for less than $150 that would meet her needs perfectly well, but if she demurred and insisted she wanted the latest model, I would pass her by to avoid future problems. There are an almost infinite number of different levels of engagement from occasional weekends for recreational sex without commitments to parenting children together, so there are different levels of financial commitment. If you want the former, it is probably best to just be honest with her about what you want and you might be surprised how well it works out, but of course you will not get exclusivity.

Clearly the answer will depend on how badly you want her, and if you are only meeting people that want Iphone, most likely you are in the wrong neck of the woods. I have bought a iPhone but you want to separate the wheat from the chaff and then use your judgment based on how deep your pocket is and how desirable the object is (and most importantly if your objective is short or long term; Especially if you want to get into rent or medical bills).
