Basically what I've been told, in layman's terms:

1) what happens in your own home (or rented apartment/hotel room) between two adults in the way of intimate relations is your own buisness. Its okay to have an escort come to your place and is even liscenced in some communities. Technically the exchange of money for sex in such a case is a grey area.... but its perfectly legal for escorts to advertise online or in a paper, to arrange a 'date' by phone, and have a girl to your 'place'.

2) it is ILLEGAL to run any form of an incall establishment ("bawdy house" in the language of the crown), to be an 'inmate' or worker of such, or to patronize such.

3) it is ILLEGAL to solicit sex acts in public. Streetwalking, a tout handing out fliers for an escort service/massage parlor, girls in a bar blatantly trying to get the patrons to take them out- all bad in the eyes of the crown.

4) ENFORCEMENT PRACTICES vary between communities. Vancouver and Montreal are pretty wide open, some communities are alot less so. Metropolitan Toronto for example has periods of wide open tolerance of massage parlors and VIP room sex at the some strip clubs... there have been crack downs as well. Niagra Falls seems pretty wide open most of the time.

This is what I've gleaned second hand through discussions on TERB, adultmb and elsewhere and is kind of a half-assed answer since no one else seems up to the task. For a more technical answer you would have to look up "Canadian Law-Prostitution" "Canada-Bawdy House Act" or something simmiliar in a search engine, like Google or Yahoo, et al.

One request guys: I'm a yank and not a lawyer or legal scholar. If anything said here is technically inacurate on the legal sittuation of prostitution in Canada, PLEASE correct me on it. This is merely a summary of the legal sittuation in Canada as its been told to me for other laymen hobbyists. I am a frequent poster on the Windsor board and know some people who run agencies there, but I am by no means an authority in this area and won't try to BS you into thinking I am.
