You need an employment authorization to work legally. Thanks to NAFTA and depending on what you do, it can be easy to get. I worked in Montreal for a while as an engineer and getting the EA was pretty easy. If you have the right job, you may also qualify for a Quebec tax holiday which makes a big difference since Quebec provincial income tax rate is as high as 25%!!
