I understand that rationale but you can also look at it this way. Depending on where you live, you probably spent an average of 600 to $700 to get here, for a week you paid probably $500 for your hotel. You're here to have a good time. You meet the hottest girl that you've ever seen and would ever been with and she tells you that she'll do everything that you want all night for $191 US which wouldn't even get you one hour with an escort in America. Now you will turn her down because of the theory that well that's the average monthly Colombian salary as if that matters to you. So you go home on that plane following this advice not having that experience with the hottest girl you've ever seen who do everything you want all night because of the principle that well it's a lot of money in Colombia although it's actually not a lot of money to me. Whenever I either go to and from the airport from Poblado, I just say 100 K and off we go.

From my location it is a consistent 90,000 COP to the airport. I like Poblado. I go there to eat breakfast on occasion. Otherwise I stay out of that area. I prefer El Centro.

However, very late at night the white cab drivers will ask for more leaving the airport contrary to the posted rates.

Since my usual flight schedule has me arriving "very late at night" that is the reason I have been given by the white cab drivers for the 120,000 COP rate to my spot.

Over the past five years I have flown over 20 times from Rio Negro having to clear immigration in Medellin and it has never taken over an hour to clear immigration, but regardless of this I always arrive three hours early as you never know.

I have never timed clearing immigration in Medellin to leave only on arrival. And I can share with you that I arrived 2 hours early on my first trip to leave and almost missed by flight between airline check in and immigration and decided never again. Three hours early for me also.

I went to a Scotiabank ATM and they're now charging a 20900 COP fee for withdrawals. This is corroborated by another poster here. I guess this leaves BBVA and Davivienda as the only fee free national ATM networks in Colombia?

If I'm not mistaken, it had been the Scotiabank Colpatria branches whose ATM's offered a good exchange rate with no fee (as opposed to the plain, "Colpatria"less Scotiabanks). When I was last in Medellin in March one could make four withdrawals of 900,000 each (3,600,000 total) at one go, with no fee. Have you been charged a fee at one of their banks? (I used the Scotiabank Colpatria branch on the second floor inside Exito Laureles on Carrera 81.

My experiences have been, 90,000 COP from city to MDE airport. Shout out to my ISG Brother who hit me on the back channel with the information of making a reservation with a taxi service. But, when I arrive, I have been being charged 120,000 COP for the ride into the city. Consistently. What I have been told is that after a certain hour the rate goes up. And let me tell you gentlemen, all the drivers are consistent. They would not budge at all. And I asked half a dozen different drivers and they all gave me the same price.

The fare is 98 K to Poblado, and higher rates for further outlying cities like Envigado. I don't know where you where going but it sounds as though the cab driver added the 20,600 K tunnel fare "peaje" to your fare assuming you would assume that it was an additional.

Just finished another trip in Medellin and it is getting a bit harder to find really good Chicas at decent prices because some of you insist on overpaying these Chicas instead of politely telling them NO when they quote in USD instead of pesos.

Can you find a chica for less than 150 USD at Gustos and clubs nearby? YES and they are good looking.

I went to this club right across from Gustos named GLOW VIP, the chicas in there were nicely dressed and my homie took one out for 120 USD or 450 K Pesos. After our stint in GLow, he took his girl home and I walked over to Gustos, and the Chicas in there were less attractive than those from GLOW, it was packed but I was able to find a table near the entrance and simply sat and observed -first Chica that caught my eye was a fake blonde and I simply asked her how much? 300 dlares - LOL, no gracias mami and she walked off. A brunette parked her ass right front of me (see pic in white), finally motioned her over and we started a convo, brought her a drink and we agreed on 450 k pesos, the body was at least 8 (to me, Chicas bodies get a plus 1 rating if they have a phat ass lol) and face was really cute. That's the most I have paid for a chic thus far in medellin, just think if you can get a 10 at Loutron for 400 k pesos, talk to her get her number why would you pay more for a lesser looking chic at Gustos? Try to talk to the chick, make some sort of connection, don't be an asshole and you might save hundreds of thousands of pesos.

Are there chics asking for 300 USD and not budging, of course but there are plenty more not willing to go home empty handed. Do you Chica proof your apt before allowing a random prostitute inside? Secure all your valuables, stay in a secure building where they take their ID and pics and call you before she leaves to make sure you weren't drugged? Gustos Chica was told to go back to my apt and get me because I missed the phone call from security when she tried to leave.

You must always decline the conversion rate offer to avoid getting hosed at the ATMs. Search the forum for ATM for further details. You should also decline any ride offers from drivers who are not operating the white taxis with a blue stripe down their sides. Those are the taxis that charge the rate you see posted in the arrivals area of the airport. By the way, that rate is government regulated and only changes in January. I think I remember you refuse to use uber, didi, or indriver. Those are also good options that are rarely more than the regulated rate and often less. There is a 24 hour bus service that costs 14,000 pesos.

Ok, so I have completed my second trip to Medellin and although I do not have a lot of experience I can certainly share what I have experience do have in Medellin. If you are a "Where the hoes at guy?" Skip this post.

I have a girlfriend in Medellin and I have not paid a prostitute in Colombia up to this date. Although I do find many of the posts in this thread to be quite informative. The ones challenging the amount that others pay for pussy or judgments of the quality of the prostitutes being hired is based on price if find to be quite useless. And when I hit him the day before to take me to the airport he showed up 45 minutes early and told me he would just wait down stairs until I was ready. I am finding that I need a solid 3 hours to check in, clear immigration and arrive at my gate on time.

ATMs have not been my friend. The exchange rate I got was horrible from the ATMs. What did find is the my credit card company gave me great exchange rates. That is not usually the case when I travel. Colombia is strange in that regard.

I tried both and enjoyed both. Thank you for the suggestions. I have had a great time during my visits to Medellin. I find it to be a breath of fresh air compared to the Dominican Republic. A will organized city with strong infrastructure and domestically produced good of high quality. I shop and eat out in restaurants with my girlfriend almost everyday.

Based on the number of people I have met personally that have been scoped, it is an epidemic of that kind of crime. Not just this year, it has been going on for a while. And most just get robbed, and sleep off the effects of the drug or drugs. But it is easy for the women to overdose a guy too. Hence some deaths, ie murders.

Dudes need to quit bringing chicks back to the same rooms they keep all their shit in. Especially if it is the first time you have met this girl.

I've arrived 7+ times in the last two years, mid-day, evening, etc. Never experienced this. Just walk up to the white cabs, jump into the next one on duty, mumble "Voy a Poblado, cien mil, no?" and the guy nods and we are off. Never had anyone suggest anything different. I did have one guy confirm that I wanted to take the tunnel, and I did have one guy that I wasn't sure if he was going to take the tunnel so I clarified "por el tunel por favor".

I am finding that I need a solid 3 hours to check in, clear immigration and arrive at my gate on time.

I usually do 10-15 minutes to check-in (gate line), then 10-15 minute walk through security, then the painful 30+ minute wait for immigration, then I'm in. Never taken more than an hour, though that immigration line has made it feel longer. Usually then head to one of the lounges (the 2nd one behind the 1st one is always quieter with better service) and hang out until flight time.

Never accept the exchange rate of an ATM! Always decline it and you will get the very good exchange rate of your ATM card (or credit card if using that). If you use one that charges a transaction fee, try to use a card that will reimburse you (seems you already are). ATMs are definitely your friend. Davivienda remains my favorite, but Occidental has worked for me in a pinch. Since they let me take out 2 MIL COP at a time.

It's a lot easier when you get there. There are a ton of tables on the street now. Sit at an empty one and order a beer. But if you want something mapable, the LICOEXPRESS on the corner of Cra. 40 and Calle 9 A is a popular easy place to sit and chill. But once you are there you will realize you've got dozens of sitting places to chill.
