I went to the Scotiabank-Colpatria ATM on the second floor of the Laureles Exito and verified if is now charging 20,900 pesos to withdraw 900,000.

Are you coming to Colombia or leaving. I had too many problems using the Check-mig for arrival so I paid on www.ivisa.com.

Thanks for this info Sun. Have you been able to arrange a taxi with them for late night pickup like midnight or 1 AM? That's the only time I have a problem with the white taxis wanting more than the official rate because there is no line of taxis waiting for customers at that hour.

For the record the two times I have quoted the fee of 120000 COP by half a dozen drivers it has been the exact situation that you describe. I routinely arrive after midnight. I don't write the airline flight schedules I just buy my ticket and be a the airport when they tell me to in order to board the flight so eat good, shop, use a ATM that is scamming and fuck my girlfriend in Medellin. Every trip has been a good trip..

Ok, so I have completed my second trip to Medellin and although I do not have a lot of experience I can certainly share what I have experience do have in Medellin. If you are a "Where the hoes at guy?" Skip this post.

I have a girlfriend in Medellin and I have not paid a prostitute in Colombia up to this date. Although I do find many of the posts in this thread to be quite informative. The ones challenging the amount that others pay for pussy or judgments of the quality of the prostitutes being hired is based on price if find to be quite useless. My experiences have been, 90,000 COP from city to MDE airport. Shout out to my ISG Brother who hit me on the back channel with the information of making a reservation with a taxi service. But, when I arrive, I have been being charged 120,000 COP for the ride into the city. Consistently. What I have been told is that after a certain hour the rate goes up. And let me tell you gentlemen, all the drivers are consistent. They would not budge at all. And I asked half a dozen different drivers and they all gave me the same price. But now I have at least found a driver that I trust. And when I hit him the day before to take me to the airport he showed up 45 minutes early and told me he would just wait down stairs until I was ready. I am finding that I need a solid 3 hours to check in, clear immigration and arrive at my gate on time.

ATMs have not been my friend. The exchange rate I got was horrible from the ATMs. What did find is the my credit card company gave me great exchange rates. That is not usually the case when I travel. Colombia is strange in that regard.

I have found the taxi out of the city to the airport to be 90,000 COP just as you said.

I tried both and enjoyed both. Thank you for the suggestions. I have had a great time during my visits to Medellin. I find it to be a breath of fresh air compared to the Dominican Republic. A will organized city with strong infrastructure and domestically produced good of high quality. I shop and eat out in restaurants with my girlfriend almost everyday.

The whole point is that you are not comparing apples to apples when you bring a random country into the discussion. The apples in country 1 (Colombia) have nothing to do with the apples in country 2 (USA). (Hell, you can not trust the apples of 2 cities in the same country to even be aligned.) Each country's apples have to stand on their own merit. If that was not the case one could easily ask why isn't the comparison made with Burkina Faso or Lichtenstein instead.

I don't see anything confusing about the bank's conversion rate presented on the ATM. It's straight forward to me. If you want that rate, then accept it. If you don't want it, then decline it. Can you give an example of how it's confusing?

Because it seems that if you do not accept then you can not get money. How many people would push accept if the truth was printed on the screen? "Push this button to give us a $20 tip. " Not many people are savvy when it comes to currency exchange. If they were then the ones throughout USA airports would have all closed down by now.

It can happen if you are really unlucky. It's pretty much a game of Russian roulette. It all depends on how many flights arrive near the time of your arrival. Normal unpredicatable arrival delays make it hard to schedule around busy times. I don't remember every spending an hour on the immigration line. I've heard of passengers with document problems being detained for long periods but that's another issue.

If you arrive 3 hours early, you'll fly through immigration and security, 15-20 minutes max.

If you arrive 30 minutes early, it will take a minimum of 20 minutes.

I went to a Scotiabank ATM and they're now charging a 20900 COP fee for withdrawals. This is corroborated by another poster here. I guess this leaves BBVA and Davivienda as the only fee free national ATM networks in Colombia? Even though my card reimburses ATM fees, I feel their reimbursements are sometimes off and don't want to deal with it if possible.

Yes, it appears to be true. I used the Scotia-Colpatria ATM at the Victoria Mall here in Pereira. Same fee. I and others have had issues with Davivienda.

You are confusing the AVERAGE and MINIMUM salaries. In 2023, the average salary in Colombia is about 1000-1100 USD / month. The minimum salary is about $300 USD (1. 3 million COP). In the US, the minimum salary varies in each state, from about 7. 25 USD / HR to 15-16 USD / HR (in very few states, like DC or California). $7. 25 at 40 hrs a week is "whopping" 1160 USD / month.

You don't pay a Colombian girl $1100 to spend the night. You pay her $100 USD on average, maybe a bit more depending on how hot she is. Thats 1/10 of the average salary.

1/10 of $3500 is $350. Can you get a hot girl to spend the night with you in the States for $350? I doubt it. But even if you can, the ratios are pretty much the same.

Just to clarify, Google gives a wrong answer, $1100 is not the average salary in Colombia it is around $450 a month.

Minimum wage doesn't matter. Very few people work for 7. 25 with no tips. Popeyes near me pays 15.00 an hour to start. Medellin girls should ask for whatever they can get because they hit the wall fast. I've never had a girl in Colombia ask 200 dollars for an hour. She must not have wanted to go and shot high. 100 dollars all day. 500 k pesos can get any girl in gusto or park lleras. Unfortunately they are really weathered and older looking.
