Living in Venezuela as an expat

I use Cupid LAC and I get a lot a contact from girls in Zulia, the west part of Maracaibo, everyday!

If getting married or getting a job / business for an international company, can you live in Zulia or will I get attacked.

One girl, a very hot Pocahontas told me she wanted to live in Torres de Pomona, like that barrio was the best, another girl mentioned La Villa.

Medellin is like 2 cities, the middleclass and Pobaldo Rio Negro normal Medellin, also other nice barrios, but from Calasaenz in my friends apartment we could see Comuna 13, San Javier, he said it like it was a place of horror. The lingo is also very different, people from poor barrios don't speak the same Spanish as the normal, easy to understand, Spanish, they speak a very unclear sloppy slang-Spanish. 0 f 1000 murders 950 are in the pooor barrios, but the x-FARC have got strong as mafia, protecting business, shops, restaurants, "vacuna". And with many tourists, which didn't exist until after 2002/05 and now are at a high level, they are also a target.

But in general in the normal barrios, are the normal barrios in Zulia / Maracaibo also relatively secure, or are the whole place turned into a warzone?

The girls say the quarantine is still in full effect, you can just go out for absolute necessary things like 2 a week.

In Colombia they are opening up, but looking at what happened in Europe now when it opened up, the covid-19 increased to March April levels, so they had to go back to very tuff restrictions again.

But When Johnson & Johnson or Astra Zeneca have a vaccine and get it out world wide, is Venezuela a good place to live, even with Maduro as president? Or the Young hero has to come to power so the economy can be normalized?

A new place is Guayana that is super-poor and with a mini-population, have found oil on the cost in great quantities, might become a destination?

I must say, there is a great opportunity to profit buying properties in Venezuela. Lots of people are desperate to emigrate and are selling their homes, and since very few Venezuelans have enough cash to do so (local banks simply don't give credit for that), the prices are low and can be haggled for even lower if you offer to pay in american currency.

Thanks for the information. I am in a position to migrate to Latin Americas or SEA within the next 6 months. Colombia. Costa Rica and Panama are the countries I will be visiting very soon. I was thinking about Colombia more so and then move over to Venezuela. My preference is living by the beach. How would one find more information on what's available and how much, factoring the black market rates? Can foreigners buy property?

This a starter thread for those who may want to move to Venezuela and live there. It could be a retiree or someone starting a business or a second home. People may thing I am out of my mind but I think that opportunities exist and may be more once there is a change of government.

Those with knowledge on resident permits, health care, bank transfers, buying properties and any other needs that an outside may need to have a good life here are welcome.

Start prepare to live there when Maduro has fallen. Venezuela is as dangerous as Medellin was in the 1970/1980//1990's.

But if Maduro falls 2017/18, it can be good to be prepared to go to a New Venezuela with real currency and real trade and diplomatic relations. Then it will have a golden era. Just like Medellin.

Going today is a kamikaze attack. North East Brazil or DR are better options until Maduro, eventually have to step down.

Preparing oneself for going there quickly after democracy can be a very good deal; just like when Argentina was dirt cheap 2002-2005. Then inflation rose to 35% after Kirschner sacked his genius economy minister Duhalde. And portenas are ugly, while Colombian men, having worked in Venezuela when it was functional and Colombia not, says that the Venezuelan are even more beautiful than their Colombian sisters. And the whole people are even more happy to have a good time than Colombians.
