Dubai is too good for you to leave. Once settled it's very hard to find another destination that would match it and some aspects at least. As for PR, this will never happen as PR would lead to citizenship and since they are already a minority, their culture and numbers would be diluted too quickly so it's a matter of survival for them. That being said I have met a few persons from the sub-continent who have been here for generations and are doing fine. For mongering Dubai is in a league of its own. And If I came to leave the country I would really miss the variety of pussy available.

Yes, Dubai is too good to leave inspite of survival challenges. When I came here one senior told me if you work more than 5 years you do not want to go back. You get hooked by comfort this city offers. When it comes to PR they may offer limited options like long-term visas etc because somehow they will need people here for the retail to survive. About they getting in minority I remember a funny conversation with Director of Ports whom I knew well. He asked me after many years of progress how many locals are running business here? Businesses like Gold, Textile, Electronics, Big retail, Supermarkets all owned by Expats. You expats are too smart for us, If we give Citizenship to you guys UAE will become another Fiji!!

Coming in is easy, staying is hard. For other countries it's the opposite. For instance the US are really cautious about immigration, even if you come with a "good" passport they are wary that you intend to immigrate. But once you're settled it's easy to stay and there is a clear path to becoming a citizen if so you wish. I guess we can't have it all. For mongering Dubai is in a league of its own. And If I came to leave the country I would really miss the variety of pussy available.

I have been living here for more than 30 years and I will disagree with your generalized comments which I will call it as a tunnel view typical of people from other places. I was invloved in many companies and had no bad experience with local community. wonderful nightlife, girls from all nationalities for all budgets, classy restaurants with great service, swanky malls, bigger cars. People flock here to buy properties and live here.

At joe I haven't been in Dubai anywhere close to your tenure but even in that short time have realised that everytime there is a +ve word said about Dubai someone chirps up with 'but you know XXX is a problem or YYY is not right in city". It is an amazing city and very well run. Parts of the city are still a work in progress but it addresses them really quickly.

I agree on your experiences with the business community and locals. For me it has mostly been consistent with what I have seen in Asia and Europe on business practices. A lot of times the complaints I hear are from someone who wants more than what their contract is saying or just thinks that the law is not what they want it to be.

I definitely agree with this statement, Dubai life is like no other, I can definitely see myself getting my own place here one day only when they kick in some sense in their awful visa laws which are designed carefully to make your stay temporary. They gently keep reminding you that your stay here is short-term no matter how long you stay. I keep looking back at 6 years so far and although the money is decent I still have a sense of regret because in other parts of the world your time spent in a country is an actual investment itself that leads you to permanent residency at least. I could've done Taipei instead of Dubai, 5 years on business visa and boom! PR! You are welcome anytime! I just don't feel appreciated and settled enough in Dubai and every time I go to sleep the "where next?" question pops up in my head every time but that's from a different point of view.

I totally agree with Want More about the super service we get in Dubai. My friends who have migrated to US, Canada and other countires miss Dubai and they wish they can come back. Yes, we have our own set of challenges of economic cycles but you can survive.

So if you're a punter bear in mind that this could be held up against you, learn about the laws and the customs and keep a law profile.

It is this City which is legendary! Just a super super amazing city. It lets people in from all over and ideas flourish. I don't know of any another city where I could have arranged a Chef, car, boat everything as effortlessly as in Dubai. And each of these providers delivered just top notch.

Take the chef, not at any point we were short of food. She said she will sort it out for us and it was just superb. Everything was top quality. Even like the chips were like made by someone, makes Lays taste like cardboard. I can't even eat normal food after this.

The boat was superb, easy going crew guys and a really great lunch for us. All I had to do was tell them we wanted lunch and allergies. They sorted everything out.

Car guys, same thing, zero hassle. They deliver / pick up. Even without asking they let us keep them for an extra day. Even for the clearners, they come in do their own stuff, there is plenty of things lying around but nothing is ever missing and this being Dubai I am not even worried about stuff like that. When I was returning the cars, I had just left the keys in the cars, they just came and picked them up. Didn't even see me.

This is a city like nothing in the world.

Got a couple of Russians lined up to come straight to my place and also a French and an Italian. If I pace myself I should manage three of them before I maybe leave for a vacation. Mind you, travelling now isn't the best of ideas so maybe I'll keep one for over the Christmas period. Yet to determine which if any allows rear entry, but assuming one does then I'm sorted for a short while.

I agree with you mate and the fun you had was out of this world and can only be had in Dxb no other city on this planet you can get so professional service in everything.

Amazing is the word you must be a lucky and satisfied chap.
