Schwab gave it back to me, but I do not think Bancolombia gave it back to them. I do not know which bank my ex-girlfriend in Bogota uses, but when her card was cloned and the money went gone, she was just shit out of luck.

Yeah, I lower it from $1000 a day to $500 a day when in dodgy countries. I don't see the point to limiting it per transaction though. Thieves know how to make two transactions. And separate your stuff. A credit card here, an ATM card there. I carry at least two ATM cards and at least two credit cards in different places, even if it is just different pockets at times. And if you are my age, send yourself an email or text about what you put where ja ja. Having a no fee ATM card such as Charles Schwab's also limits your risk because there is no need to take out the maximum and walk around with it. I got my ATM card cloned and my account emptied in Guatemala and Schwab sent me a new card by DHL courier the next day. Most of the money they put back that next day too although there was one withdrawal that I had to argue about for five days or so.

I think this is the same guy that posted a gazillion "stupid" questions in the Rio thread, but once the date came that it was time to go, something came up. Now it is time to do the same in the Medellin thread.

What's the max a bancolombia or dividienda ATM will let you take out in a single transaction.

For bancolombia the highest withdrawal option displayed was 600 k but I wasn't sure if I could take out more in the custom option.

I ended up doing 3 separate transactions of 600 k and of course my bank charged me 3 $5 fees.

For dividienda I think the highest displayed was 900 k.

So I'm wondering could I had avoided those other 2 fees if it would let me take out 1,800,000 in a single transaction?
That question has been answered more than "do you want fries with that?" One of the most common complaints on the Medellin forum is that too many posts are about ATMs.

    Of the ones I remember:

    Bancolombia 600 k.

    BBVA 400 k.

    Servibanca 780 k.

    All charge a fee.

    Colpatria / Scotiabank 900 k.

    Banco Pichincha 1 million.

    Davivienda 2,020,000.

All had no fee, although Colpatria might have changed.

The maximum offered by Davivienda might be different depending on your bank. Fees charged by your bank might be reduced by changing to a different type of checking account. If you travel often you could benefit from switching to a bank with no fees and which reimburses other bank's fees.

If you try to withdraw more than the maximum allowed at an ATM your money doesn't disappear. The transaction won't go through.

Also your bank may limit your maximum withdrawal per transaction and per day.

At any rate I went on seeking two weeks before the Lisbon trip. I sent out a lot of messages. I was offering 600 euros per day paid at the beginning of each day for three days. I got some responses. I asked for a video chat. Four agreed.

I always give the girl the money up front the moment that we meet and I have had success with that, in brothels and seeking.
In another thread you did all this research on robberies but did not research any prostitute pricing in Colombia at all? I am sure the druggings and theft are more than double what you read. Many guys are too embarrassed or do not have time on their short vacations to visit the police knowing next to nothing will or can be done.

For 3,050,000 COP per day I could have had her, her sister, mother, and two cousins which would have been 610,000 each per day. Plus, you had to have paid another 100,000 minimum for food and drinks each day.

You are telling us you handed over 3,050,000 COP before even sitting down and having lunch together? It could have been a trans or she had menstruation.

If you are from USA and you are in Colombia then why the hell are you talking Euros for?

Dividienda, the max is higher, I think it was 2100 or 2200 mil. You can definitely take out 1800 mil in a single transaction at that bank.

I was just in Medellin a few days ago and was trying out a number of ATMs, that is how I know from personal experience.
Got it thanks. Yeah what I was confused about was if I could take out more in the custom option but now I know. I had heard of people being ripped off by the machine stating it gave them the money but never actually received it, so I didn't want to risk that happening.

All of this has been discussed many many times. It seems a little wierd to me to travel on vacation to a foreign country and not check out which banks are best to use, which charge the lowest fees and how much your bank will charge in fees for using a foreign ATM.
This is the answer I was looking for "how much will the other option let you take out" so you are saying you can't take out more than the max amount displayed in a single transaction correct.

Trust me I looked on this forum for this question, I looked online, on other forums, Reddit, the banks website, didn't find any info on this. I already knew about everything else like declining the exchange rate, the other fees banks charge, switching to Schwab etc, that information gets replayed like a broken record.

From my experience the best bank was davivienda. Higher withdrawal option and no fee.

Bancolombia charges a fee on each withdrawal. I never NEVER use them so I can't tell you what the maximum withdrawal is these days or the fee (it was $600 k pesos last I checked). If your bank also charges a fee on foreign ATM use. You might want to switch to a Fidelity, Schwab or Capital One bank account. I believe none of these 3 charge you a foreign ATM fee and they reimburse any fees the dispensing bank charges.

Next Davienda typically allows a maximum withdrawal of $2 million pesos in a single transaction and there is no fee. Make sure to decline the bank rate conversion. You will get your money using the Visa Exchange Rate which will be dramatically better.

The other transaction allows you to select an amount between amounts offered. You type in what you want. You can't select an amount that exceeds the maximum withdrawal offering. For example at Davienda you can't select $3 million pesos when the maximum is set at $2 million pesos.

You know that smell your almost 60 year old person was telling you about? Maybe it was the smell of money which a lot of us older expats have.

I know. I was going to comment on the sample size, but got busy with something else.

There is a certain smell I associate with old people's houses. It's not unpleasant, but it is common in houses where people have lived for many years, as MrE noted. However, it's primarily not from accumulated body odor. Old wood, old books (one of my favorite smells), old fabric and cooking odors are the main culprits.

I said how so? And she explained to me how it doesn't matter how many products you use on your skin, when you age there's no way to avoid the ph levels in your skin. I said what do you think about men who think women prefer them over younger guys, she laughed and said they are delusional.
No it's not true. You can say that to your mother aka 60 yo family member.
