Damn. I almost forgot about the Patriot Act which wanted to formally throw that right right out the window! Let's not forget RICO from the early 80's. Pretty much granted unlimited search and seizure for anything which could in any way he connected to organized crime.

DEA brought the dogs onboard a NOAA (National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration) research ship, found one crew member had brought a joint aboard, so they took possession of the ship. It was legally theirs, because one guy had a joint and drugs are considered organized crime. Fortunately, someone stepped in and returned the ship to the NOAA.

Probable cause has been extended to be anything. All the officer needs to say is, "I smelled marijuana", or alcohol. Anyone who thinks the Fourth Amendment is alive and well, has been living under a rock.

Another very fine post! And another tip of my hat to you, Mr. E! There is certainly no sleeping on the job of life for you! Slightly off-topic. But who am I to complain about that, given my recent posts? Keep it up!

I was messing with a chick here in April but she disappeared. The other day she hit me up. I asked what happened. She said she was in jail. Said the police picked her up at a hotel in Bangkok. I said how did they know where you were. She said because of her cell phone. Same thing in America.
Heck, way back in 1982 the cops found me at the laundromat and literally nobody who knew me, knew I was doing laundry that day. Granted, I'm sure my buddy, or accomplice, gave them my name and a description of my truck, but it sure didn't take them long to find me.

As long as there are people left alive, there will be an economy. The further it gets knocked down the quicker it recovers. Look at 2008. It took less than 2 years to begin to recover and 5 years for an almost complete recovery.

The financial issues exist either way. What's the patient burden for a 45 day ICU stay, in the US? $200 k? $500 k? What's the cost to a company forced to shutdown because too many employees are sick? What's the hit to state tax revenues when people aren't spending money?

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Any idea what the quote above is?

I don't have to worry about being held back and not being able to make enough money. Big thing here is that it is illegal to talk bad about Thai royalty. You will be thrown in jail. Besides that, I pay my rent and wake up and go about my day without any thought of the governmental or social structure in the country. And I can leave anytime. I am basically a fly on the wall and as long as nobody tries to swat me or shoo me away I am fine. I do not exist with the same worries as a normal citizen does.
But you do have to follow the law which may limit your privacy, and freedom. This is the point I am trying to get to. I happen to observe Americans don't want to go back to US even when flight is available. Especially many will reach the 180 days visa limit soon and they are complaining they have to leave but won't be allowed to do visa run because of entry ban.

I think there will be a lot of people out of jobs until they update their skills if there are still jobs for them. Many people are already saying that the we are going thru a huge wealth transfer so the economy won't be the same.

Just look at college towns. They will all be empty this coming year. The landlord won't have rental income. This will be at least a year, and not to mention the quality of the education will suffer as well.

There is a school of thought in science that builds a model for reality based on observation. Stephen Hawking is one of the scientists who use this approach. When the model is successful in explaining everything then it is considered to be true.

Viruses don't have perception. They deal with simple reality. Liberal, conservative, young or old, the virus can't tell the difference. All it knows is whether or not it's found a host.

That's reality. There's a virus. It's real. It's potentially deadly. It's contagious. It's a serious problem. We can argue over how deadly, or how contagious, but reality and the virus aren't listening.

Privacy, like justice is a human construct. It's a matter of perception. Each of us has different beliefs about our own privacy. That makes it hard to discuss objectively.

Freedom is another story. You're free to do anything you want to do. Anything you can imagine, you have the freedom to try. If you want to fly to Medellin today, you can do it, or make the attempt. What's always misunderstood is that your freedom doesn't obligate anyone else. You're free to not wear a mask, but the store isn't required to let you in. You're free to practice your religion, but you're not free to force others to practice it.

Each government takes action based upon the voices that government listens to. Some listen to the citizens, some listen to the scientists, some listen to the corporations. Some appear to be listening to the voices in their heads.

What's more important to sacrifice? Human life or the economy? That's the choice that people keep tossing out. However, you're really sacrificing both. Damage to the economy affects human life. Massive loss of human life hurts the economy.

My view is that the economy isn't something you can kill. No matter how long things are shutdown the economy will recover. Not only does it recover, boom times follow. The Renaissance followed the black death. The roaring 20's followed the Spanish influenza.

People, on the other hand, don't recover from death. Six months from now they won't be digging themselves out of the graves and celebrating.

The problem with every conspiracy theory is they require much more than any of the conspiracy theorist can fathom in order to work. In this case, every employee, in every hospital, every family member, friend and co-worker of every victim, every funeral director, every company that makes caskets. All of them have to coordinate together to craft a consistent story. That's in virtually every country around the world. Next add in every business owner, from the mom and pop restaurant to the largest corporations in the world, all agreeing to voluntarily shut down, all with the singular goal of getting Trump out of office.

That's billions of people, all secretly communicating and coordinating and keeping the secrets.

    Sure thing.
