15 mil for a cab is not price gauging. It is on the low end. Arguing or complaining over cab fare of 7. 5 mil (which is not easily found) is ridiculous and using an example of going to McDonalds is idiotic.

Do you really feel cheated or taken advantage because you were asked to pay the standard low price of 15 mil ($3. 60)?

I have been going to Medellin for at least 7 years now and before then Cali. I have a long list of girls that I see and thereafter go out for lunch or dinner. Yes a dinner!

Dinner at decent place will run you around 40 K. Good heavens, I spend the equivalent of $10 for food for a girl that has very little choices in life on how to make ends meet.

And Oh My God! I have also taken some on trips with me as well. And guess what? I paid for them for their time including food and drinks. How silly of me?

The guys here worried about small change like this are true losers. They couldn't get a date where they are from (I wonder why?) And feel a sense of power arguing over small change.

I think a few of our "compatriots" think that these young women grew up dreaming of the day that they could sell their female parts to some fat, slob who doesn't bathe for enough money to feed themselves and their baby for a couple of days. Why do people here fight over things like this? I'm new to Colombia and I was wondering if it's common for a man to pay for a taxi. And the amount she asked for was exactly double the Uber fare. I was wondering if this is common or if she raised the price on purpose. I don't understand why everyone is fighting over this.

I once bought Colombian Vienna sausages from a street vendor at the San Antonio station and the vendor asked me 1500 pesos for one sausage.

When I bought Colombian Vienna sausages in the Plaza Botero 30 minutes later, they were 700 pesos for 1 and 2000 pesos for 3. When I handed over 2200 pesos, the honest vendor gave me back 200 pesos with a smile!

I felt bad when I realized that I was selling the same sausage to a foreigner for twice the price.

Yeah, people shouldn't let themselves get price-gouged because of being a foreigner, but there is always a line to draw. If you walk into a McDonalds and see the price of a Big Mac is 20 cents for foreigners and 10 cents for locals, I think it is perfectly fine for people to just pay the premium. The major point is that they are aware of the upcharge and making a best faith effort to not allow themselves to be swindled constantly. Truthfully, a lot of pobrecitos here don't seem to understand that haggling, negotiating, and making a scene over 20 cents doesn't matter to a lot of folks who would be paying $10 for a burger.

It also seems to me that a lot of folks are obsessed with "winning" any exchange. They have to pay bare-bottom prices so they can feel like they got back at the "vapid women" who shun them in real life. They have to be the ones who are on the forum talking about how they get 10/10, amateur, chicas who totally love them for cheap / free. Everybody needs to find balance between being "that" guy and being some poor sap who is getting roped along by chicas and dropping tons of money for sub-par service.

Even in business it is not looked at as $1.80 per se. It is looked at as being charged 100% more or double. If you were riding the metro and they tried to charge you double of what it costs then I am sure you would not say I came all the way here so them charging me 25 cent more is nothing to argue about. You are going to wonder why they are trying to charge you double. But once again when pussy is involved a little extra seems to not matter.

I'm not condoning what either of these two guys did, but it does appear quite clear that Colombia is treating US men caught up in these situations differently than locals and / or Chinese people.

But the legal position is different Gabacho. It seems crazy that USA enforces its own laws in another land, but that is not normal. So a Chinese person only has to abide by the Colombian law. There may be situations where Chinese tourists are not breaking any law in Colombia whereas, for the same act, USAns are.

Exactly!! What the other said was not wrong. There is a lot of danger (so I hear) in columbia. I cancelled 2 trips so far. I was hoping stuff would get better in 2024. I might still take a chance and come down this fall.
