I know I represent a sample size of one, but I recently completed fifty years of mongering so within that sample size of one monger is an "and" of well over a thousand hookers. If I were to run a regression analysis to determine the correlation of the price I have paid for hookers to the quality of service I received, I'm quite confident the "are" would be statistically indistinguishable from zero. Oh and I never got robbed or scoped while mongering. One time I was getting a blow job in a doorway in Barrio Xine in Barcelona and a guy came up with a knife but I just ran with my dick hanging out. I have gone back and forth over the years, whether the hooker was involved, but my gut tells me no. So I don't know if I am street smart or have common sense or maybe my luck has not run out yet. I have mongered in El Centro, Santa Fe, Bocatorena, etc. But also higher end brothels in Europe. And when I was living in Argentina, I mongered at pretty much every possible level. The one thing I know is, you never know, and all these generalizations being made by some of the callow youths on this board just don't hold any water.

I think for me, many things you said took me out of my comfort zone but that is where I learned. Same thing when posting Spanish conversation, I felt embarrassed at times but that is also because I learned from the mistakes pointed out by members.

This is with a girl who I think is very hot but she is kind of under the radar that is why I picked her. I knew she would be expensive that is why I started at a slightly higher price and she accepted it which is much lower than she usually gets without much problem after I told her my reason. I expect her to make effort to earn my business. I doubt one will get better service from her by paying her double the amount.

    Where everything is not exact

In El Centro, you interact with people, in El Poblado, you interact with corporation. In El Centrol, it's the owner making the fried chicken, espresso. They recognize you after a few visits. They are more interested in you too. You can ask for custom order easily. You see it made in front of you. Sometimes I waited in the rain with flip flops waiting for up to an hour at night because I want the fresh batch or it was just sold out. People walking by would fist bump with me for no reason. LOL. It's different type of food. I asked the owner to make the popular sauce mixture on the fries so I can learn what it is supposed to be like. Try that in a random cooperate owned places. You can have as many empanadas as you like and pay after. You basically see it made right there when you eat them and different vendor may have different home made sauce which can make a big difference. There are many unique food items simply not easy to find elsewhere. If we are just talking about Colombian food, some of the best ones are not in El Poblado or even around the area, fine dinning maybe, but that's not really Colombian food IMO.

It is a place that fruits and vegetables are often sold by pile or bag, not by weight. Several times I gave the owner a choice of taking bills or taking a bunch of coins and bill I have. They would take the coins and didn't even count it while knowing it is less than what I should pay. I bought two bad melons one time without checking. I brought it back the next day to get an exchange without receipt because there is none.

It's also a place people go to socialize. You can see many people dancing under the metro even for today in the rain.

I don't know why you and Elvis seem to overreact and just fire your counterattack aimlessly like others when you both seem very experience and intelligent elsewhere. Even if you think people are attacking you but did you notice they actually spend time writing posts with substance trying to help you understand?

I do not see it starting out as people putting people down who don't mind paying higher prices. What I see is people trying to school those that pay higher prices that there is no need to pay that much. Then the people that pay higher prices get prideful and defensive and say things like it is their money and the girl is better and they get better service because they are paying more. Then they end up calling the person that is trying to school them cheap and broke.

A chick was coming over last night. She told me $43 for short time and $86 for all night. I told her fuck that and that I would pay $29 for short time. She said no at first, but then said she would only stay 1 hour in that case. I said okay. She got here at 9 pm and ended up not leaving until 7 am and trying to come back tonight when she finishes work. Sure I could have paid the $86 for long time she originally offered, but I know there is no reason to throw around that kind of money here. And what would the $86 have gotten me that the $29 did not get me from the same damn chick?

Maybe it just works out for me because I have never met any pussy that I had to have so I am able to hold out and to say no. You can't miss what you never had and I do not remember the chicks over the years that I had not been able to come to an agreement with.

I get happy when someone teaches me that I could be paying less for something. Why pay more when I do not have to. It confuses me when people would rather pay more for the same thing. Like the taxis at the airport for instance. A seasoned traveler knows that the people saying taxi taxi when you arrive at the airport are going to charge exorbitantly and you can go to where taxis are dropping people off to get one for normal price. Yet there are still people who refuse to walk a few steps in order to pay half the money for the same thing.

That's without considering that the criminals may be well aware that many Americans have replenish accounts. This also ignores the fact that many kidnappers may want to make a witness disappear. Thus many professionals suggest that at the beginning of such a situation it's best that you fight for your life as it likely will be your last chance to.

And it's the same guy that assumes that when when a girl posts pics of themselves at nice hotels that they've found "wealthy clients. Thus we have a guy without "street smarts" that probably should have his passport seized for his own safety.
Look who's back, it's the King of the Bed Bugs.

I didn't realize you were such an expert on protecting yourself in Colombia. So tell me Paulie, instead of parsing phrases, how does one go about getting "scoped" in Colombia? You see, I have lived here for years and never had the experience and neither have any of the expats in my circle.

I've always thought that a person had to be careless or worse. But you're the expert, right? You been scopalomined, so educate us?

Were you devoid of 'common sense'? Or was it that you weren't 'street smart'? Maybe you just weren't 'situationally aware'? Which was it?

What all did the person take from you? Where were you staying? Was it another one of those hostels or cheap hotels without any security that you like so much? Did you file a police report? I've heard you can't speak Spanish at all. So, how did you report your experience to the police? Did you go to a clinic or hospital to get checked out? How long were you out? Did they get your PIN number and drain your bank account?

I'm curious how the thieves could put one over on the foremost authority on bed bugs and personal safety.

I've been coming to Colombia since 2018 and living on and off in Medellin since 2021. I got my cheap apartment in my "shitty barrio" as you call it last summer and I love it here.

Centro for me, besides when I'm looking for sex, is like the heart of the city, bustling with people going on about their daily lives. Whether I'm just sitting down at Parque San Antonio drinking a coffee watching people walk by, whether I need to go to a ferreteria to pick up a shower head or a saw to cut wood for shelving in my apartment, it can all be done in Centro. Not to mention my favorite fried chicken place at the bottom of the coultejer tower or the taco place on la playa. I also go shopping there for kitchen ware at this store called hogar why decor; they have great deals there. So no thr allure of Centro is not just cheap putas or drugs.

Maybe you should know what your talking about before you open you mouth Boy. Also I've been in many other "centros" all over Colombia, Bogota, Cucuta, Cali, Santa Marta, Bucaramanga, Melgar, Villavicencio, so I think I know alot more about "el centro" than you ever will.
Whatever you said in your post has nothing to do with an average gringo monger. Visitors do not go to El Centro to pick up a shower head, kitchen ware or a saw to cut wood. Other parts of town have their own taco places, burger joints, fruit stands, and fried chicken places, and I doubt those you find in El Centro are any better (cheaper, yes) and worth spending time in traffic. Any major city, not only in Colombia, has downtown where you see people of all walks of life. No need to leave NY, Chicago or San Francisco to see people hustling and bustling.

If I'm going to write an opinion about something, then I'm going to experience it first, really experience it, and not just take a quick look around and pass judgment. I get annoyed at "experts" who've never experienced the things they are putting down. I also get annoyed at people who put others down over things which don't involve them and are none of their business.

Add to my "things that annoy me" list, people who insist their way is best for everyone. Everyone has to find their own way. I've spent a lot of time looking at and trying just about every way. I've found what works for me, depending on my current mood. If someone asks for advice, I ask questions. There's no sense in steering them towards something which doesn't appeal to them.
Agreed. Well than the same can be said for those who put down others who don't mind paying higher prices. They get so worked up about it. Like you said let them be. Would be better if people would instead just give each other advice instead of just going straight to attacking each other. I guess people get bored sometimes. It's fine, I welcome anyone who wants the smoke too LOL. "Smoke" meaning drama, beef, fighting for you old heads.

    .
Those are undoubtedly some of the attractions, but as I wrote previously, for me the attraction is that El Centro is the centre of diversity in MDE. You can and will meet people from all walks of life. Students, professors, business people, office staff, street vendors, street hookers, bohemains, homeless, drug addicts, disabled folks, artists, charity workers, musicians, young, old, families, lovers, gays, straights, trans, black, white, brown, some even purple. Its a huge melting pot of experiences. Folks are very firndly and usually intrigued when they meet foreigners. Its also where new arrivals to tend to live, whether they are from Vnzla, other south american countries, or other parts of Colombia. So it is also intersting bcos it always has new input. There are also theatres, museums, an immense number of malls where you can buy phones, clothes, shoes, electrics, at a fraction of the price of the suburbs.

Its reality, not plastic. BUt if ur the type of person that say, goes on holiday to LA and stays the entire time in Santa Monica ... well then, enjoy Poblado.

You are saying you probably spend more money on lodging and food than I do. What does this has to do with El Centro? This means you lodging is definitely not in El Centro, and you definitely don't wine and dine there. And since you stated you don't do street girls, don't do drugs and barely drink, this only proves my point that there is no allure to it and you prefer to stay in your "plastic barrio protected by plastic walls".
If I still go there, without the attraction of the things you say are the only reasons to go, it proves there is an allure. Do you understand the basic principle of logic there?

The allure? The people, the energy, the gritty reality of life in Medellin, or is it the beauty? The history? The sense of being grounded, connected to the city?

It's really not necessary to accuse you of anything. It's only necessary to read your posts, which basically define clueless.

But if that's the case, stay in your lane. Talk about the Airbnb in Laureles, or about the restaurants where you go. Talk about your trips to La Isla or the various Facebook girls. Stick with the things which are within your direct experience and stop trying to put down anyone who isn't doing the exact same thing as you.

Every guy here is doing what makes them happy, or trying to find what makes them happier. Where they're doing it, who they're doing it with, shouldn't matter to anyone else.
