You apparently have no idea where I'm living, although you did ask once and I told you. And if you think I'm looking down my nose at you. Well I apologize. I try not to look down on the intellectually challenged.

I'm delighted that you fancy yourself an expert on bed-bugs. But I guess if someone who is a minimum wage earner and travels and stays in hostels or slum-flats it makes sense to master those facts.

Blind people with canes. People missing arms and legs, tons of cleft palates or cleft noses, etc.

And this is everyday, in the states I see this like once in a blue moon.

If you're concerned about bed-bugs and all the different ways to navigate that problem. Just get a better job (or save a little more money) and stay at a nicer hotel. I've never had that problem at any of the hotels that I have ever stayed at.

It is new information for me that bedbugs are not common in the tropics. It explains a lot, like why I haven't encountered them in some of the sketchy places I've been. I am grateful for my dumb luck on this front.

It is probably the simplest way to keep your luggage away from bedbugs. As others pointed out there may be other reasonable options too. Hard surfaces especially metallic. Luggage rack with metal legs would be great as long as it is out from the wall a bit I suppose.

Bedbugs are more of a problem in more temperate parts of globe, not so much in the tropics.

If your luggage is in a bathtub before you check in, then you forgot your fucken luggage at the last hotel. And if that happens in Colombia, you will never get it back, and will lose all your shit, and have to buy a new suitcase too. But, you won't get bedbugs.

Must depend on the hotel. My second or third time in Colombia I was leaving the hotel on the way to the airport and my card would not go through to pay the hotel. My mortgage had been taken out twice for some reason and there was no more money in the account. I ended up leaving my suitcase instead of paying and told them I would pay the money next time I came. The next time I paid the money I owed and got my suitcase.

Sure. It's pretty obvious. If your luggage is in a bathtub before you check in, then you forgot your fucken luggage at the last hotel. And if that happens in Colombia, you will never get it back, and will lose all your shit, and have to buy a new suitcase too. But, you won't get bedbugs.

Not at all. There are tons of websites and most just need some kind of content to try to keep them somewhat interesting as seemed to be the case with this one. The guy acted like there are only 2 options for your bag; the bed or the bathtub. He ignored every other place that I named earlier. Like hotels spend all this money on luggage stands for nothing.

This article left me saying huh? I could not tell what he meant by half the stuff he wrote.

I am just saying someone wanted to make her look like a nut by telling her that and her doing it in front of other people, as so happened in this case. He should have asked well where are people supposed to put the bag when they want to take a shower or when the tub is wet. Or I would have even asked who told you that bullshit?

I was given this same information and traveled with a woman who convinced me to do it as well. It's not that inconvenient and I haven't gotten bedbugs (knock on wood). Don't take my word for it though. Google it. Check Snopes as well. Both resources will back up this practice.

The bathtub may just be the most convenient hard surface. It's not like there is a lot of open counter space and if it's just on the bathroom floor it's probably still in the way in most hotel bathrooms. Seems like a good idea to me.
