This makes no sense at all. It is like you can't miss what you never had. How would you know what it feels like to be a man if you have never been a man? You can only assume you feel like what a man feels like. Can someone actually describe what it feels like to be a man and someone says yes that is how I feel? I doubt it. Being a man or woman is one of those things that just is.

And what if social constructs like clothing were reversed? If women traditionally wore pants and men wore dresses and if makeup was not a thing? Or if men traditionally wore long hair and women wore short hair? Or everybody wore the same type clothing? Would those men that say they feel like women be in pants without makeup and with short hair? There would be no disguising the outside then and less unwitting people would mistake them for the opposite sex they were born as.

I'm not sure I understand where you're coming from. If you never traveled and yet wanted to see the world you would want it. Same thing with being a slave all your life, you'd want freedom even if you've never had it. You can desire something you've never had.

I think there is more to my perception of being a man than the social constructs around masculinity. I wear men's clothing because I feel part of a group that wears men's clothing. I think the same thing happens with trans-men. They feel like they are part of that group and don't have a body that matches their belief of who they are.

In the end I don't want to tell trans people what they can / can't do, either by government enacting laws or even voicing disapproval. If someone wants to undergo radical surgery that's fine with me. You can swing your fist as long as you don't impact another.

Where there's some gray area for me is sports and medical procedures done on minors.

There isn't any gray area for me on what facilities a trans-person chooses to use or what they do with themselves or other consenting adults.

Okay, so would you then take hormones and / or mutilate yourself or would you find a way to deal with the hand you were dealt? Just some food for thought. Also I think it would be callow not to recognize that this 'trans' stuff is now hip and trending, and is a good way to get attention.

Thats exactly what dysphoria is huacho. Some don't suffer from it very much, and don't go for treatment, others do and feel they must undergo treatment.

Surely, its no different to a CIS woman that gets plastic surgery, or anyone that get surgery to "correct" what they feel is a "fault". Or even tattoos, or guys that feel inadequate unless they go to the gym and take steroids to look big. Many people take action to "correct" what they feel is a shortcoming / fault.

There is no need to see this as any different.

I don't think trans people have a greater likelihood of being seriously mentally ill than other groups, but I haven't seen studies on this.
They don't have special legal protections,
