Colombia is not handling covid well. In spite of the moderate size of population, Colombia ranks 10th for the covid death and 13th for the total cases in the world. I agree that the real case number could be 3-4 times of the official number since very few Colombians take covid tests. Probably, Colombia should rank around 5-7th for total cases.

There are lots of people here that have Omicron, or have had it, besides the former variants as well. There are people coughing all over the place, probably the most pronounced symptom of Omicron, and I witness it every day on the Metro and in the buses.

For most people, and you have to keep in mind that Colombia has a very young population versus other Countries, that Omicron is essentially no more than a "cold", not even as severe as the flu, but there is a very small percentage that may have a very bad outcome.

The Colombian Government about a month ago came out with guidance that essentially said, if you have the classic Omicron symptoms, and your young, don't bother getting tested, which in essence means. "if it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, don't bother getting tested.

The case numbers are deceptive if they say there's 2,500 new cases a day, it's probably four times, if not much higher than that..

I tell the people here that I have simple advice about Covid. Be careful at home especially with mass gatherings because that is where I am seeing most Covid cases happening and if you do not want to get Covid, really just try to avoid sick people. Before omicron, asymptomatic transmission IMO was bullshit.

She was crying in tears yesterday from the body aches plus cough. She went to the ER and they told her she did not have Covid and sent her home with a shot that made her feel better. She is in the significantly large cohort who has the disease, tests negative and therefore is not counted as an active case. Probably the largest cohort, those who were never tested, had Covid, and never treated or counted, along with your intuition that there are probably four times as many cases as are being counted more or less proved my QED point in Stupid that the data is not simply imperfect, it is corrupt beyond being useable. This has never happened before on this scale of medical history because it is the first "Internet" epidemic, along with many other methodology factors.

The Colombians are smarter than the Americans and they are ignoring the useless data and acting on empirical observation. This is the "natural course" I predicted. Who the hell ever argued that people should not get vaccinated? Last I saw there were people arguing that everyone should have to get vaccinated and others arguing that it should be a person's choice on whether to get vaccinated. Nobody is out there trying to stop those that want to get vaccinated do just that.
